I have never heard it explained quite that explicitly but it makes sense. I have heard many arabs say they came to America, not to become American, or to have a better life for themselves and their families, but rather "to get what America has to offer."

I just finished using a Kipling line in an article. That man had a remarkable insight into the nature of both man and societies.

One can only hope that our leaders will learn the lessons learned much earlier by people like Kipling and Churchhill.

The learning system tends to consist of on-high lectures, with students taking voluminous notes and being examined on what they were told. (It also has interesting implications for a foreign instructor, whose credibility, for example, is diminished if he must resort to a book.)

American corporate culture is not immune to this. My boss at a big semiconductor company told me one day that one of my internal customers had come to him and asked, "If AZLiberty is supposed to be such a big expert on X, why is he always reading books about it?"
