“This is not an issue of black or white, but an issue of fairness,” said Sacharow, who would like to see the street named after a black community leader."

HUH??????????

I'm a few hours north. It doesn't sound like the Commissioners are going to move on the issue - it's just alot of rabble rousing. I'm sure the Commissioners have bigger problems than renaming a street.

Liberia is in District 2, BTW. Thanks for the support : )

Seems to me that his organization, which he disbanded, is exactly what the community is doing....misinterpreting our history, to suit current, journalistic spin, and "special interests," not necessarily the truth. The actual TRUTH of so many commonly held beliefs is so COOL...complicated, noble, interesting...lest we all forget. These folks should claim Forrest for their HERO...if they want to stick it to their "opponents."

Somebody please get this speech to these people. They know not what they do.

Not unlike more than a few FReeper South Bashers, these folks do not care one iota that they are ignorant. They revel in it. Their motivation is strictly that of feeling good about themselves and their percieved self virtue of being nice and "open-minded". Truth has nothing to do with it. Other than the fact that they inhabit this forum, they are indistinguishable from PC liberals.

Just don't name it Marin Luther King Boulevard. Everybody knows that streets with that name CURRENTLY are filled with real life images of dopers, pushers, and 'hoes.

Savannah did just that.Gave them West broad street to rename MLK Blvd.It 's the most crime ridden, drug infested, run down street in the whole city.

That's true in most cities.

MLK street/boulevard/whatever, is a clear signal to lawabiding citizens everywhere to stay clear of, and not go there unprepared.
