They keep printing this belief...over and over...why?

Because they haven't had an original idea in eight centuries.

And because it is indeed the Nazi method of intimidating the population into submission for Islam. That is why the saying goes: " after the Saturday people, it's the turn of the Sunday people". They always seek the intimidating work, the intimidation of a lust or natural curiosity, and the Taleban ran Afghanistan to the ground with Saudi help that way.

The editor of the paper claimed that this appeared in error, and the professor was disciplined (supposedly). Is this a subsequent reprint?

FOR THE RECORD: Al-Jazirah, the Saudi daily newspaper, is NOT the same as Al-Jazeera, the satellite news network. The fact that they have the same name is an unfortunate "coincidence". Al-Jazeera, or Al-Jazirah, means "the island" or "the peninsula". The term "peninsula" can apply to both Qatar and to Saudi Arabia, which are on peninsulas.

Al-Jazeera -- the news network -- is based in Qatar, and funded by the Emirate of Qatar. Although it is primarily a satellite broadcast network, it also has a website: al-jazeera.net. As far as I know, there is no Al-Jazeera newspaper in Qatar.

In this excerpt from a Middle East Intelligence Bulletin article dated June 1, 2000, Al-Jazeera's origins are described as follows:

The origins of Al-Jazira date back to 1995 when the BBC, which had built a strong tradition of objective Arabic-language news coverage through its World Service radio network, signed a deal with the Saudi-owned company Orbit Communications to provide Arabic newscasts for Orbit's main Middle East channel. However, the BBC's insistence on editorial independence clashed with the Saudi government's unwillingness to permit reporting on controversial issues, such as executions and the activities of prominent Saudi dissidents. In April 1996, when the BBC broadcast a story on human rights in the Kingdom which showed footage of the beheading of a criminal, Orbit pulled out of the deal.

A few months later, the new Emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, took advantage of this fortuitous development by establishing Al-Jazeera and hiring most of the BBC Arabic Service's editors, reporters and technicians to form the nucleus of its staff. The Emir, who had launched a sensational campaign to end censorship in Qatar (going so far as to abolish its information ministry) since ousting his father in 1995, contributed $140 million to finance Al-Jazira's operations for the first five years, after which the company would supposedly sustain itself through advertising revenues.

There's a lot more in this article, but the main gist is that Al-Jazeera is NOT funded by Saudi Arabia, and, in fact, the Saudi government would love nothing more than to have Al-Jazeera shut down. For an example of how much the Saudis love Al-Jazeera's coverage, check out this article: Al Jazeera row causes Saudi Al Watan to attack Qatari FM. And that's just one example of the friction between Al-Jazeera and various Arab governments.

Meanwhile, the Saudi daily's website is: www.al-jazirah.com. And the Saudi daily is, indeed, much more radical than Al-Jazeera has ever been.

I find it revealing that Saudi journalists are willing to believe ancient witchcraft myths (the blood libel), Nazi propaganda and crawl into bed with the Aryan Brotherhood and the Ku Klux Klan. It explains a lot, but not all, of what is wrong with the Arab world.
