http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a395a094a1b8f.htm Gore: Saddam must go (BBC)

US Vice-President Al Gore has told Iraqi opposition politicians that the United States remains committed to the overthrow of President Saddam Hussein.

Meeting a delegation from the Iraqi National Congress (INC), he also reiterated the administration's view that the Iraqi leader should be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The Clinton administration is trying to beef up the INC after nearly 10 years of sanctions on Iraq have brought the world no closer to bringing down the Iraqi leader.

It has allocated $8m this year to the INC to help to re-build the organisation.

What the Democrats and Gore do not understand is that many Americans are extremely afraid that we're going to be hit again. I work at home and listen to the radio during the day. Sometimes the radio just goes blank and I freeze, thinking "what now", while I wait to hear some horrific announcement. I worked in the Wall Street area when they were building the Twin Towers and had dinner at Windows. Then on 9/11/01 I watched them fall. Al Gore frightens me more than the terrorists do. And whoever wrote on this thread that he speaks in that dreadful monotone is right. The guy has no passion for America and it reflects in his voice. We have a cowboy President and he's precisely what America needs right now and forever. A great American cowboy - President Bush.

I know a wide variety of just plain American folks - seniors, young people (twenties), blacks, whites, etc. The young mother who lives next door said to me "We must kill all terrorists because I want my children to grow up free and safe". We all agree - we don't want to see America attacked again.

Is Zogby more Arab than Pollster.
Is Zogby more Arab than American.
Can any Arab be more American than Arab.
It appears the "melting pot" has gone rancid.
Too much camel meat.

Diversity is NOT our strength...there is strength in unity.
Gore is a divisive bastard for his own political ambitions - and he could care less for the country... Like father like son -- Gore, the sonofabitch has sold America out again.

Gore the democrat Whore - he had eight years to address the SAME problems and failed.... He should shut the Fxxx up and let the men fix the mess he and Clinton ignored and encouraged.

Semper Fi

Wishful thinking on Zogby's part, since he's of Arabic dissent.

Betting on a military defeat to boost your electoral chances is the act of a coward and traitor.

This is Gore's Hail Mary play. He threw the ball way downfield in hopes that an American defeat in Iraq wll catch it and bring him the presidency.

Speaking of campaign slogans, I was waiting for Gore to call Pres. Bush's policy on Iraq a risky scheme.

As for timing, it could not have been worse for the dims. It keeps the issue on the front burner and it begs one to question if they support Gore's position on Iraq. We are going to see A LOT of dims tap dancing in the next few weeks -- thanks to Gore's speech. Behind the scenes the dims are probably telling him to shut up. I consider this a gift to the Republicans.

He will be the Dem nominee and has already tried several issues just to see what resonates.

Oh, I think this issue will resonate--resonate with that cartoon "Claaaaannnnnnnnngggggggg" of a frying pan hitting the side of Wile E. Coyote's head....

Al Gore, Sr., was defeated for re-election in 1970, not 1968 (he or his supporters accused Pres. Nixon of delaying Al Jr.'s deployment to Viet Nam until after the election). He won the previous election in 1964, which is why he voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 rather than risk losing his seat.

It was certainly Gore's hope and intent to become the focus/leader of anti-Iraq war, anti-Bush sentiments.

The problem is that his most ardent supporters, the New York Times and Dan Rather, gave him two-column inches on the front page and 45 seconds of airtime, respectively.

If that is all the support Gore can muster from his biggest megaphones, methinks he is just about finished.

Of course, his lack of oratorical skills didn't help either. The only time he is effective and persuasive is when he is handing out "our" money.

Pollster John Zogby said Gore's message was "very well timed."

"very well timed." ????

Timed to clash with the 67% public approval rating for President Bush's position on Iraq?

Timed to keep Iraq on the front burner politically when the Democrats desperately want to change the subject in time for the Nov elections?

Timed to be an antiwar speech that is immediately outdated and classed by a 55 page report on the dangers of Iraq by PM Tony Blair?

Gore's timing couldn't be worse. He's a klutz.

Ok. Now we know that Zogby is an Arab-apologist-American, not just an Arab-American. Wtf does this have to do with polling? We can discount all his poll results from now on.

Rush had this one pegged today. An unbelievable gaffe for the Dems, who wanted a quick resolution then to have all this just go away. Wait a minute! Here comes Algore!

No... not a frying pan. Think "anvil". If I'm not mistaken, I can hear it in the distance... whistling as it plummets earthward towards Al's black-painted bald spot.

"Pollster John Zogby said Gore's message was "very well timed."

Too bad it wasn't "very well honest."

Just about everything Gore said can be shown to be the exact opposite of what he spewed in '91 and all through his 8 years of Vice President. What a hypocrite! But then, he's a Democrat and the bulk of Democrats are hypocrites and political opportunists.

This is simply Algore trying to be on both sides of the same issue. "As you knowwwwww, I have always consistantly been for a regime change in Iraq, Bill Clinton and I worked as hard as we could to get Saddaam out of power-That's clear;....which is why I think it would be a mistake at this point. We can't afford to risk our young men and women without 100% approval from every leader in the world; especially those in the Arab world. Since the bombs will be falling on them, they have every right to weigh in on this decision. President Bush has done a masterfull job so far,... which is why I think he has been a disgrace to the office from day 1. I can't be any more clear than that!"

Zogby's self-interest is in protecting Arabs--not protecting Americans. Of course, he's anti-war because he doesn't want anything to happen to any Arab, deserved or not.
