Bush Book Upside Down
Urban Legends Website ^ | Unknown | Unknown Internet Source

Posted on 09/27/2002 1:14:55 PM PDT by Gumlegs

Haev you gotten this one in your e-mail?

Origins: We don't yet know the provenance of this photo, such as where and when it was taken. It's a funny picture, but even if were real, it would still be just a funny picture. If it weren't a manipulated image, it could have come about because an aide handed the book to President Bush for a quick schoolroom photo opportunity, the President didn't immediately notice it was upside-down because he was looking at the student to his right, and a photographer managed to snap a picture before the error was corrected. It might also be possible (but hard to determine from this image) that the books President Bush and the student were holding had removable dust jacket-type covers, but the cover of the President's copy had been put on backwards, so it looked as if he were holding the book upside-down even though he really wasn't.

The photo does show some tell-tale signs of digital editing, so the real explanation is that someone took an existing picture and flipped the image of the book in President Bush's hands. Note, for example, that the picture on the back of the book in the student's hands and the one on the back of the book President Bush is holding are the reverse of each other, a dead giveaway that the photo was manipulated:

Incidentally, the book shown in this photograph is America: A Patriotic Primer, by Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice-President Dick Cheney. The photo to the above right, a picture of Mrs. Cheney with the children of naval personnel, is the one that appears on the back cover of the book. (Note the correct orientation: the child holding an American flag should appear on the left-hand side of the photo, not the right-hand side as shown in the doctored image of the book President Bush is holding.)

No doubt some of your "friends" have sent you this. It's nice to know it's already been debunked.

Yours in truth ...

The operative word here being 'manipulated'. If it looks like a rat and sounds like a rat, it's a rat.

How about the real photo of Clinton looking through field glasses with the lens caps still on when he was in Europe on the anniversary of D-Day.

It's a lousy paste up in the digital realm. Look at the "back cover" of Bush's book, the photo is not parallel with the bottom/top of the cover.

The left has to fabricate their "examples" of Bush's ignorance while we can present a multi-media smorgasboard of Albert Gore Junior's mental failings.

Never once did we hear about verbal gaffes from George W. Bush when he was the governor of Texas. He travels the country delivering the same speech 4 times in a day, several days a week and the press pool opts to use the clip where he slips up.

Leftists are evil.

Korea, looking towards the DMZ.

'Course, Clinton never could see a Communist/socialist enemy anyway.... Just us mean, nasty conservatives.

Two more observations: The girls book has what looks like a sticker or tab on the top front cover just slightly to the side of the edge on the "America" side while Bush's has it in the same place only its on the bottom of the back cover.

More obvious is both the girl and the other book shows the title "America" with very little space between the letter and the top of the book while Bush's has a large gap.

Is your screen name a tribute to a photographer who really knew what he was doing?

The left wishes that they had as good a photo editor as Registered (who also exhibits more wit in his alterations).
