CA: Davis vetoes PC recycle bill

SACRAMENTO - Legislation that would have put California at the forefront of recycling scrapped electronics was rejected by Gov. Gray Davis late Monday, underscoring the political clout of Silicon Valley's high-tech companies.

California would have become the first state to assess a recycling fee -- $10 per electronic product -- on new computers and televisions sold to residents.

Typical. Yesterday he let his real-estate donors develop a sensitive area of the coast, today it's his Silicon Valley donors who get the favor. Al Gore did the same thing, talking big about ecology but caving in whenever his donors had an interest in polluting the environment, killing whales, or whatever.

I suppose all politicians are liars, but the Democrats have brought lying to new depths. No doubt Davis figures that environmentalism has now been so firmly coopted by the left that he is safe doing this. He just has to give another speech about how Simon wants to wreck the environment and the Sierra Club will continue to support him.
