PHOENIX -- St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was irate over a Phoenix-area disc jockey who called Darryl Kile's widow and asked if she had a date for Thursday's playoff game.
Flynn Kile hung up the phone after KUPD-FM radio's Beau Duran called her Phoenix hotel room, The Arizona Republic reported on its Web site Thursday night.

Isn't it a requirement to have a 80 or below IQ to be a FM DJ?

As an ardent Diamondbacks fan, I hate to say this, but St. Louis deserves to sweep us after the behavior of this drooling moron. I sincerely hope that KUPD-FM fires him and that the Station Manager and CEO fly to St. Louis, prostrate themselves in front of St. Louis' Busch Stadium, and beg forgiveness from Kile's widow. Revolting.

Chuck Artigue, the market manager for the Sandusky Group, which owns KUPD, said the prank "was in terribly bad taste" but no action would be taken against Duran. How about firing Chuckie's ignorant ass as well?

One of my college classmates is a FM DJ (morning drive time) & although he & his partner are funny, and at times mildly racy, they're not shock jocks like the NYC idiots & this guy.
I do remember some idiot in Minneapolis who got canned after he faked a visit to the hotel room of Green Bay Packers QB Bret Favre, claiming that a woman not Bret's wife answered the door. I do believe that the two shock jocks who came up with this stunt--and refused to admit that they faked it for a few days--also went out the door. Bret's lawyers and the team's lawyers were most pointed, but very quiet, about what they were going to do to this radio station, and it wasn't pretty.

Howard Stern, take a bow. The man who brought vulgarity, bad taste and pushing the envelope into the mainstream, can now look around proudly at his legacy.
There's hardly a week goes by these days, without an idiot DJ causing a ruckus with some crass or tasteless stunt.

Chuck Artigue, the market manager for the Sandusky Group, which owns KUPD, said the prank "was in terribly bad taste" This goes way, way beyond bad taste.

"I'm vehement in saying that whoever is responsible should suffer serious and dire consequences," La Russa said. "If we could get our hands on them, we would deal with them physically. It was so brutal that something should happen to them. I hope whoever was responsible gets nailed." Dang! You tell'em Tony.
I'd drive the friggin team bus over [with the team inside] to the station and wait there for the twerp to come out.
To: inkling
I don't know any ardent fans who would say we deserve to lose over this. This evidently has nothing to do with the Diamondbacks, just some jerk DJ. While I feel badly for Kile's widow, yes this is sickening, why are the Diamondbacks responsible? And why should they apologize.?
The responsibility is with the guy who made the statement. Let him be punished. And apologize. Spreading the blame around is the way democrats think.
To: jern
When idiots do this to someone, there should be an exception to the law. One should be able to kick this DJ's butt over the rainbow. At least that is what would have been done in earlier times in the US, not today with all of this sensitivity (insensivity?).
To: Nebr FAL owner
Yep, I seen a few wall to wall counseling sessions in my stint in the military and for the most part actually did some good.
To: valleygal
I never said the D-backs were responsible, nor that they should apologize.I just know that if I were a Cardinal player, I would be out for blood. I'll guarantee this story is tacked all over their locker room and they'll be trying to take vengeange out on the field.

As of this morning, the station management has said that it was unfortunate, but they are not going to fire these guys. I understand this show was laughing about it again this morning. So unless Phoenix residents give this station hell, boycott, and demand the firing of the morning team that approved this idea(not just the guy who made the call), then they get away with it, and profit from the publicity they sought. For the community to not raise hell over something so dispicable is to silently allow, ala Kitty Genovese' neighbors.
So sorry, as long as we don't read or here about community outrage of these guy's firings, there are going to be some who root against Arizona over this. Right now I kinda hope the Cardinals smash the D-backs in the next game. A couple of days ago I coulda cared less.
To: jern
What an a**hole. I hope someone "prank calls" him (Ha ha! Funny!) and asks if he's bringing a "new mom" somewhere when his mom dies.
What a jerk. Nothing twenty-five to seventy punches in the mouth wouldn't cure.

The program manager's email is jj@98kupd.com.
Here is the note I sent to these jerks.
To whom it may concern,
I found your radio prank whereby your radio personality called the widow of Darryl Kile to ask if she had a date for Thursday night's game to be in very, very poor taste. Had this simply been a case of an immature DJ going out on his own, this would only be moderately disturbing. However, what is truly outrageous about this case is that management of your radio station does not feel compelled to do anything to punish this particular DJ. I think it's sad that this DJ has no respect for the sanctity of human life. And I think it is even more sad that KUPD-FM management finds that to be acceptable.
I will be contacting every single one of your sponsors urging them not to sponsor programming on your radio station. Their advertising dollars can just as easily be spent on programming that has some sense of human decency. I will also never again personally listen to KUPD radio, nor any other affiliate of the Sandusky Group. In the near future, it is my hope that the Sandusky Group becomes just as bankrupt financially as it is morally.
Regards,
Brad

Isn't it a requirement to have a 80 or below IQ to be a FM DJ?Hey now. I was an FM DJ back in my college days and I resemble that remark!
Of course, back then we hadn't even heard the phrase "shock jock." We just played those old vinyl LPs by Crosby Stills Nash & Young, AC/DC and the Eagles etc., and we tried to be funny without actually offending anyone.
The DJ who did this should have been suspended for two weeks. That would have sent everyone a very clear message and I think it would have satisfied everyone, including Mrs. Kile and the understandably outraged Cardinals fans.
Without any information on the DJ's prior record, I'd be hesitant to say that he should be fired. This guy could have a good work record going back several years, marred only by this moment of bad judgment.

When one season is ending and a player get hit by a ball, the other team doesn't forget over the Winter. SL will be visiting Phoenix next year and hopefully this moron DJ will still be there. I think the DJ might have a few problems.
