Another DC-area sniper-style shooting
Wife (FReeper nina0113) | October 4, 2002 | Steve0113

Posted on 10/04/2002 12:02:50 PM PDT by Steve0113

Another broad-daylight shooting just occurred, this time in Fredericksburg, VA, just off I-95. It's not even on the news yet.

About an hour's drive south of where the Montgomery County shootings happened, a woman was shot in the parking lot of a Michaels fabric store. My wife was in the store at the time. The victim had left the store and carried her purchases to her minivan. She unlocked the minivan and was loading her stuff into it when she was shot. No sign of the shooter.

No one else was injured.

The woman was taken away in an ambulance, condition unknown. Her license plate (which I'm not going to post) indicated that she had several children.

Yes - if I was going to do this I would use a TC contender

A rifle is too conspicuous in an urban setting

The various .223 caliber cartriges are accurate to 400 yd from a contender.

Why isn't this on the news yet? Are they trying to prevent panic? I think the public has a right to know this.If I lived in the area I would want to know. All of you that do live around there please take care.

Often people here have vanity plates that say, e.g., 5SMITHS, KIDZVN, 4BOYZ, etc.

They're very accurate shootings, all victims killed with one shot from quite a distance. Next to impossible to do that with a handgun.

The Thompson Contender single-shot handgun can be barrelled in .223. Combined with a decent scope, it is accurate to several hundred yards. I saw a TV show or movie several years ago where a killer used the Thompson Contender at reasonably long ranges. I can't remember the name of the show or movie.

How far in miles is this to the shootings from yesterday?

It's about 70 miles, almost all of it on open highway.

Here's the map from the Michaels' site with where it is in relation to the interstate. The red line is Interstate 95; Richmond is less than 40 miles south, DC about 50 miles north (give or take a few miles)

There but for the grace of God go I!

Give your wife an extra hug from all us FReepers tonight, OK?!

I pray for the future of the children of this mother shot down in the prime of her life!

I know exactly where it is -- about 1/2 mile from my house.

Please pass my concern to Nina - glad she's ok.

If you both have the time/energy...First Friday is tonight...All Night Adoration. I'm hoping to go and will be offering thanks for Nina and prayers for the woman shot.

God Bless!

Isn't that Contender pistol the basis for the "cop-killer" hysteria? that you could shoot through a vest with a pistol? maybe jumbling hoplophobe trivia...
