(Musician) Henry Rollins Calls For Drastic Action On Iraq

(10/11/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Henry Rollins's 1999 spoken word album Think Tank spoke about the singer's concerns about terrorism and the threat posed to the world by Iraq's dictator Saddam Hussein. Rollins continues to be concerned about Hussein, and is outspoken and strident in his criticism of the dictator, to the point of suggesting drastic action.

Rollins spoke to LAUNCH about Hussein's evasion of U.N. weapons inspections. "If he didn't have anything to hide, then why is he saying, 'Oh you can't go there.' I think a full 100-percent daylight, lights on, everything known, inspection needs to be had, if not, then it needs to be leveled. 'Let's just say, anywhere you don't allow us to check we just drop a bomb on it. How 'bout that?' I am so down with that. 'Well, I'll put women and children in it.' Well, then you can tell the world that you killed them because we told you what we're going to do. And now it's up to you to put the women and children in that mosque or take them out."

Rollins added, "We should promise, not threaten, we should promise. And if the women and children get killed the blood is not on our hands. That is a really harsh point of view, way harsher than I usually am and way more to the right than I usually am, but this guy is screwing up."

Rollins continued, "I think that if Saddam Hussein wants to be in the world picture and have his sanctions lifted, he should put the entire world at ease and give unlimited access to U.N. weapons inspectors."

The flag waving "U-S-A" chanting is a too little too late. The knee jerk patriotism is corny to me. If you want to be a patriot, then be one all the time, not just when you feel your homeland attacked. <---I like this statement.

Everyone went out and bought a little flag or flag sticker for their car after,(most likely made in China), after 9/11. If there wasnt one before 9/11, I felt like it was perhaps insincere to it afterwards. Not that I'm knocking it for those of you that did so. But if youre going to be a Patriot...be one all the time. Not just when you get smacked.

I saw him on television several years ago...

His political philosophy then was basically that the government should just throw money at every problem facing this country until it is solved.

I seriously doubt that he has strayed from that point of view.

I agree, but I've lived in this house for three years, and there's been an American flag flying from it since the first week I moved in. Maybe it just took something like 9/11 to wake some Americans up to what a great country they have, and if so, then I'm fine with their newfound flag waving. When I hear Norman Mailer, Robert Altman, et al, ranting about how sickened it makes them to see people waving the flag after 9/11, I count myself among the people who should have the right to take our flagpoles and ram them up their wrinkled rectums with no sense of hypocrisy whatsoever.

LOL, me neither. I fact, I am fond of reminding those around here that like to make lists of "celebrities who are not conservative, therefore NO ONE here should like them", that if I followed every boycott listed on FR, I'd be living in a cardboard box in the woods and have no life at all.

Henry Rollins is one of the smarter punkers out there, an original South Bay (LA) punk with muscles, tattoos and clear thinking, who ridicules the passivity of GenX.

Yeah, but Glenn Danzig could beat him up.

Does Henry have a similar viewpoing to Nyquist? The reason I ask is that Nyquist is quite critical of "Conservatives" and says that they are conserving nothing and only slowing the incremental creep of the Left. He also says that materialism, obsession with democracy and levelling to middle class norms have destroyed the protective strata (e.g. the warrior class) that used to protect Western civilization. Hence our current crisis and likely future severe challenges. It's OK to rag on ineffectual idealogies such as "Conservatism" as defined in the modern age.

And of course, I put up my already-bought, made in the USA flag, when?.... a bit before 9/11.... on the day the $%&W*%$ CHICOMS ATTACKED OUR PLANE!.... and it has been up ever since and will remain up until it must be retired due to wear, or, we learn how to fight and overwhelmingly win a real war, whichever comes first.

WOW! I never would figured Rollins would be a hawk in that sense. yes his music is angry, but he is cerebral also. Let's drop 100 of him into Baghdad and watch the Iraqis run for their lives

Low Self Esteem rocks!

or until we learn how to fight and overwhelmingly win a real war <---Good point.......I too am tired of politically correct wars....trying to win wars without offending other countries or races or religions. Either for us or against us...that seems to have lost a little of it's edge lately.

Yeah, but Glenn Danzig could beat him up.

George Tabb beat his ass once, but that was back when he was in Black Flag and kind of skinny.

I've started to like Rollins lately, but it's hard to overcome his history of bullying girls when he can't control his temper. I'm hoping he's developed into a better person than that. His thinking has certainly evolved quite a bit over the years.
