SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Kurt Evans issued a statement Thursday evening saying he was suspending his U.S. Senate campaign and giving his support to Republican John Thune.
Evans had qualified for the Nov. 5 ballot as a Libertarian candidate. He could not be reached for comment.

Send a thank you, especially where the electoral margin will be determined by election "irregularities".This sounds like a job for...Jimmy (no bell) Carter.

Republicans and Libertarians have more in common than things they disagree about I agree, at least at the grass roots level.
I would rather see libertarians run in the GOP primaries (like Ron Paul did) instead of running in the general election, where they will likely lose and cause the Republican to lose as well.
Hell, the libertarians probably have more in common with the "written" GOP platform than most Republicans do.

Barring a New Jersey repeat, his name will remain on the ballot. Surely there are Libertarians who will refuse to follow Evans' lead and will either stay home or yet cast a vote for him.

Headline: Libertarian candidate does what is best for his country.
Agreed. Now if only we could convince the Bob Smith Cargo Cult to disband and vote for Sununu in November.
Be Seeing You,

Most of them will.

I knew his father Kyle Evans well, he was a great country western singer I have some of his records. His real name was Fagerhaug and he came from a good republican Norwegion family.

This guy rates high in my book. A whole lot higher, than Buchanan and Browne, who could have done the same thing, for the same reason, but didn't.

Good news for South Dakota! Evans seems to be a man of character.

Look, a libertarian supporting the Republican party. It's a step in the right direction.

Way to go, Evans! What a patriot!! I will not forget this.
Last poll I saw was Zogby done 10/9-11 with 4.5% MOE:
Thune 45% Johnson 43% Evans (L) 1%
That 1% can make all the difference, like the Greens in Florida essentially voting to elect Bush.
Anybody got a later poll?
To: EternalVigilance
"Apparent cases of voter fraud in South Dakota serve as a vivid reminder that our entire political system depends upon truth and honesty. A hard right to Johnson's jaw and a fitting way to exit. My hat is off to Mr. Evans.
Go THUNE.
To: patriciaruth
We don't watch the Zogby polls here in Florida. If Dick Morris still has a polling web site, he's a dem but he's more accurate.

Hi, cuz and bttt. No more Zogby for me. He's wrong, I hate to be non-pc, but the Zogby family is Arab. They are likely to be against Republicans this election cycle as they may be anti-war against Iraq, etc.

No more Zogby for me. He's wrong, I hate to be non-pc, but the Zogby family is ArabA big "Islam is a religion in Pieces" bump to you this morning. That's my new saying after much thought and seeing too much Bali video.

I found a new polling url. It's nationwide and you can choose what type race you want to check on. Here's the url. I make no claims about it's accuracy but it looks like it's better than Zog.
http://www.ourcampaigns.com/cgi-bin/r.cgi/RaceDetail.html?&RaceID=20
No date I can see, but this poll indicates the following: JOHNSON = 50.08% THUNE = 49.14%. Now THAT'S CLOSE. Evans came in at .79%.

Yes indeed.

Cool url for the races, thanks.

Hey, a Libertarian with some common sense! Ok, sorry; I lean Libertarian in many ways - it's just that they rarely have a chance to win and often end up helping the Dems; which hurts both Republicans and Libertarians. Not to mention the damage they (Dems) do to the fabric of the nation, the Constitution, family values and business!
