Condi Rice on CNN: ..."I don't need Harry Belafonte to tell me what it means to be black."
CNN ^ | 10/20/02 | Pyro7480

On "Late Edition" with Wolf Blitzer, our National Security Advisor Condi Rice was giving an excellent interview, explaining why it was North Korea who complicated the situation concerning nuclear weapons, not the U.S. (all of the pieces fell into place BEFORE Bush's "Axis of Evil" speech). At the end of the interview, Wolf asked her about Harry Bellafonte's comments on Powell and herself, and played the clip from Larry King Live. Her resonse:
"I don't need Harry Belafonte telling me what it means to be black."

I was listening to The Phil Hendrie Show the other day and he was talking about Belafonte's tirade.

Mr. Hendrie said that Harry has got to be kidding since he was the one who recorded the "Banana Boat Song." A record that EVERY white person bought so that they could pretend that they were living on a plantation and having the house negro sing for them.

Just as an aside......

I watched the interview with Condi also, and noticed how little she really said and did some dancing/stuttering. Then it dawned on me just how difficult it would be to know what she knows, but can only say aloud that which isn't sensitive information. It's gotta be frustrating at times to have to talk in circles when you know all the answers, but can't give them out openly.

Go Condi, Go!

Compare and contrast Condi's response to Colin's. I'm sure Colin was a warrior in his day but now I think Condi has a bigger pair than Colin.

Colin could have (and should have) responded in just a forceful way - there would have been no diplomatic or poliitcal repercussions. Instead, Colin just said the remarks were "unfortunate" or some such nonsense. Condi rules.

I liked both responses. Colin Powell's response was cool understatement. Almost like he didn't have time to get on Belafonte's level even to respond.

Condi is so strong, intelligent (way surpasses Hillary ha,ha, classy and wise. She's also just very sweet and feminine at the same time. (hear that all you feminists) you can be a strong, wise intlligent woman and still maintain your feminity. Yeah, feminity. It's a GOOD thing!

Well said, Condi!

Should Cheney not run for VP in 2004 due to health issues, one name suggests itself. Plus, being four letters long, it fits right into the Republican pattern for national tickets:

1976: FORD / DOLE

1980: REAGAN / BUSH

1984: REAGAN / BUSH

1988: BUSH / QUAYLE

1992: BUSH / QUAYLE

1996: DOLE / KEMP

2000: BUSH / CHENEY

2004: BUSH / RICE

You are spot on target! ROTFL til I realized I was one of them! No idea where the record went, or I'd trash it.

"What is Harry Belafonte famous for again?"

He's had a long career working as a professional lawn ornament for limousine liberals.

"2004: BUSH / RICE "

I'm shocked that so few have speculated on this. Knowing W, knowing his family, knowing Cheney's health, I would think it OBVIOUS that this is where we're headed---the GOP making a major grab for the more conservative half of the black vote. And Condi in the driver's seat in 2008.

Ouch. That's undeniable. But in both cases, they were massive underdogs prior to the nominating conventions, anyway.

So maybe short names are no guarantee of success; after all, we've had two Presidents named Roosevelt, and one named Eisenhower.

2004: BUSH / RICE

(Tommy Flennagan/John Lovitz voice emulator mode engaged)

I hope not.
That's because now that I've left my first trophy wife, Morgan Fairchild, Ms. Rice, er,
Condi and I will be getting together to help make some nice, intelligent, well-mannered
future Republicans that won't burn after 15 minutes in the sun like I do.
Yeah, that's the ticket...

(Tommy Flennagan/John Lovitz voice emulator mode dis-engaged)
I'd like to see a short interview with Ms. Rice's personal secretary...to find out
how many marriage proposals end up in the trash bin each day...

I'm shocked that so few have speculated on this.

Dozens on this forum, and thousands elsewhere, have speculated on this possibility. Believe me, it wasn't an original thought on my part.

But the tickets where both candidates had 4-letter names all lost!

Easily fixed:

2004: BUSH/(Fill in my last name, which has five letters...after Condi and
I take the plunge).

Come on...it's a joke...

OK, a MUCH more realistic fix:

2004: Bush/CONDI!
