Condoleezza Nixed From Africare Dinner on Belafonte's Orders

Washed-up calypso singer Harry Belafonte has succeeded in getting Bush National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice yanked as the keynote speaker from Africare's annual fund-raising dinner this week.

Last week Belafonte, who is scheduled to be honored with by the group for his "humanitarian efforts," boasted to MSNBC's Phil Donahue, "If Condoleezza Rice became the keynote speaker at the event.... I would not be able to be there. I told them I would not come."

While Africare officials dispute that they took their marching orders from the militant former star, they acknowledge that Rice was invitied to deliver to keynote address but has now pulled out because of "scheduling conflicts."

The Wall Street Journal, which revealed Belafonte's attempts to ban Rice ban its Monday editorial page, reports "Our sources confirm Harry's account."

Condi is too classy to say anything about it though. In fact, this further enhances her class compared to the thought Gestapo led in this instance by Mr. Belafonte.

As for those who want to burn his records, tapes, CDs, etc., another thing you want to do is boo whenever they play "Day-O" at any sporting event as a sound effect (as I did at a hockey game Saturday night).

Condoleezza Rice was said to remark that "Africare" was a worthy charity. Clearly she has taken the high road, leaving Belafonte to look like the vengeful little stepinfetchit he is.

Rice was more correct than she knew when she said that she didn't need Harry Belafonte to tell her what it meant to be black.

She continues to impress me at almost every turn.

Meanwhile, Harry Belafonte made ready a quick riposte....
