The record is clear. Stalin was responsible for Tens of millions of deaths, perhaps thousands of which he personally
signed death warrants for.
He was an equal opportunity killer, he killed with malice
and with complete distain.

Someone asked,"Where are the graves?"
Someday archeologists will start digging up the gulag
and will find them, they are in the whole of the country,
they are in the Solovetsky Islands, the White Sea canal, and
KOLYMA, to name a miniscule few.

Hey, there's no Americans in the theatre. That's what counts. Now an enterprising individual could call Fox and tell them that their friend/relative visiting Russia was talking about seeing an authentic Russian popular play.....

ABC Radio this morning said two americans were still in the theatre and one british citizen was released.

Link to ABC

Two Americans a man and woman were among the hostages, a U.S. Embassy official said, but no further details were available. Citizens of the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Australia, Belarus, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan also were confirmed to be among the captives.

I was in Mockba (Moscow) in August and got a chance
to visit the Novy Tretyakov. This is where the Russian authorities
have consigned the statues of the bolshevik terrorists.
There were many statues of lenin, stalin, and one very
large statue of dzherzhinsky. I was told that the mayor
of Moscow, Luzhkov, has announced that Iron Felix is
going back up on his pedestal at the Lubyanka. There
are several statues of "koba" with hundreds of ceramic
human skulls in makeshift cages, depicting the mass murder committed by
this bloodthirsty "general secretary." It is truly a
gruesome site, but very apropos for the bloodiest
butcher of the 20th century.

How many people did Stalin have killed? 10 million? 20 million? 30 million? How many angels can dance on a pinhead?

Exactly, 10, 20, 30, 50, 100 million (yes, I've seen this stated). It doesn't matter, anyone can quote any figure that strikes their fancy, no matter how absurd, and it is instantly accepted as fact. Indoctrination works like magic.

what's a "fifth column"?

The term originated in the Spanish Civil War and is a reference to enemy sympathizers in a given country.

Indoctrination does work like magic. Look at all those
useful idiots that wrote about the "new homo sovieticus"
or new soviet man, blathering on about the glories of
stalin, even while stalin was starving millions in the
Ukraine (yes, PC, millions) and liquidating the Kulaks
throughout Russia proper. Yes, Comrade Stalin new first hand about the magic of
indoctrination and the impact it can have on
the easily deceived.

Thanks Siobhan. I'm praying for Russia and for all of the hostages, and that young woman killed by the Muslims/Chechins.

Iraq and al Qaeda: Who's campaigning to deny the links?
Opinion Journal ^ | 10/25/2002 | editorial board

Posted on 10/24/2002 10:11 PM Mountain by Pokey78

Is President Bush going to war with Iraq based on a false premise, or worse, a lie? That's quite a charge, yet it's the gravamen of what looks like an orchestrated campaign to suggest that it's crazy to believe that Saddam Hussein would ever join arms with al Qaeda.

That implication is showing up in a spate of recent stories quoting "intelligence sources" who are conveniently anonymous. We don't blame the press corps for having sources, though the anonymity does give the leakers the ability to hide their motives. We'll elaborate on what those might be below, but first we'd point to some clear, public evidence of an Iraq-al Qaeda link that the media have overlooked in their fondness for cloak-and-dagger sourcing.

As I was saying, the war on Iraq is part of the war on terrorism.

As I was saying, the war on Iraq is part of the war on terrorism.

The war on Iraq is an extension of the Gulf War that needs
to be pursued with UN backing because of that.  The war
on terrorism is because of the WTC attacks, the chief
enemies being AQ and Saudi Arabia.  There have not
been any links proven between the two.  That's why
the WH has been quiet in this regard and is taking the
tack of involving the UN on Iraq while the WOT is
somewhat quiescent.

The war on Iraq is an extension of the Gulf War that needs to be pursued with UN backing because of that. The war on terrorism is because of the WTC attacks, the chief enemies being AQ and Saudi Arabia. There have not been any links proven between the two.

From the WSJ article:

we'd point to some clear, public evidence of an Iraq-al Qaeda link that the media have overlooked in their fondness for cloak-and-dagger sourcing.

Mr. Bush has been blunt on the point, for starters. In his October 7 Cincinnati speech, he noted that Iraq and al Qaeda have "high-level contacts that go back a decade" and that a "very senior" al Qaeda leader was in Baghdad this year for medical treatment. Also, "Iraq has trained al Qaeda members in bomb-making and poisons and deadly gasses."

As for "intelligence sources," America's most prominent is CIA Director George Tenet. A recent letter in his name to Congress laid out the following evidence, which we reprint at length since everyone else seems to have ignored it:

"*Our understanding of the relationship between Iraq and al-Qaeda is evolving and is based on sources of varying reliability. Some of the information we have received comes from detainees, including those of high rank.

"*We have solid reporting of senior level contacts between Iraq and al-Qaeda going back a decade.

"*Credible information indicates that Iraq and al-Qaeda have discussed safe haven and reciprocal nonaggression.

"*Since Operation Enduring Freedom, we have solid evidence of the presence in Iraq of al-Qaeda members, including some that have been in Baghdad.

"*We have credible reporting that al-Qaeda's leaders sought contacts in Iraq who could help them acquire W.M.D. [weapons of mass destruction] capabilities. The reporting also stated that Iraq has provided training to al-Qaeda members in the areas of poisons and gases and making conventional bombs.

"*Iraq's increasing support to extremist Palestinians coupled with growing indications of a relationship with al Qaeda, suggest that Baghdad's links to terrorists will increase, even absent U.S. military action."

Presumably Mr. Tenet wasn't making all of this up, and presumably his claims are based on the work of his own "sources" in the U.S. intelligence community.

If you're waiting for the sort of proof that would hold up in court, that probably won't be available until after Iraqi regime change, if then. But the evidence cited in the WSJ article is proof enough for me.
