WASHINGTON -- Democratic Sen. Paul Wellstone of Minnesota, one of the last unapologetic liberals left in Congress and known among his friends as a ``pied piper of modern politics,'' died Friday in a Minnesota plane crash. He was 58.

Wellstone's wife, Sheila Ison Wellstone, and daughter Marcia also died in the crash. Three campaign staff members and two pilots also perished.

First, let me say that I really feel sorry for people like Wellstone, his family, the staffers and the crew. I feel that way when anyone is stricken "before their time".

However, I have had a belly full of the crap that both sides of the aisle are spouting on TV. Can you imagine these pimps saying the same thing if it had been Tom DeLay or Trent Lott on that aircraft? I don't think so.

Just a bunch of damned hypocrites.

Warning: this AP reporter is notoriously inaccurate and mistaken, as well as biased

For the Jackpot, can you name an AP reporter who is not?

IMHO Jesse is the biggest power broker on two feet right now.

I agree. And, isn't it interesting that the future of the country could be resting in the hands of a lunatic?

In 1996, he [Wellstone] angered gay rights supporters by voting for the "Defense of Marriage" bill, which allowed states to withhold legal recognition of same-sex unions from other states.

On this particular day, I choose to point out the [political] good in Senator Wellstone. If the above is any indication, he did vote his conscience, and didn't always follow the DNC party line.

but he was a liberal who really believed in what he was doing and stood for his principles and fought for them

So did Hitler and a host of other rotten characters in history. I don't consider this a necessarily good thing. He was a socialist Marxist and I'm glad there's one less with his viewpoint in Congress, but I'm not glad the guy is dead. I can't imagine how devastated his family and friends must be.

Michael Dukakis SAPHYR- Wellstone is a martyr, to honor his memory, we must elect Democrats to carry on the causes he beleived in.

Yeah, however, this politician of such great integrity, a big supporter of the greens, this "dove" of peace, never met a bomb dropped by Clinton that he didn't like.

"I disagreed with Senator Wellstone on just about every issue, but he was a liberal who really believed in what he was doing and stood for his principles and fought for them. I'd like to see more people like this on both sides."

Let's cut the BS -- Paul Wellstone and his "principles" were anathema to the Republic of the United States of America, and true freedom thereof, AS IS THE ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC PARTY...

Furthermore, with "more people like this," especially on his "side," the Republic's demise and total breakdown would be just around the corner.

Wasn't the "Pied Piper" the guy who led the rats out of town, and then when the townsfolk didn't pay him, led away their children?

This is not how I would want to be remembered if I were him.
