Dallas Morning News Endorses John Cornyn while liberal Houston Chronoicle endorses Ron Kirk

I didn't read the endorsement in the newspaper but I heard on the local conservative radio station here that the Dallas Morning News has endorsed John Cornyn, the republican candidate for senate, while the Houston Comical(Chronicle) endorsed Ron Kirk, the democrat candidate for senate.

This should be a political mouthful considering Ron Kirk was mayor in Dallas.

I guess they know better like the Arkansas Democrat did not endorse Clinton for president the first time and has endorsed Tim Hutchinson this time for senate.

Interesting. Not sure if someone had posted this about Ron Kirk and John Cornyn yet; therefore, I thought I would tell it.

(why do people feel it necessary to answer you in triplicate?)

From the date on those triplicate posts, they happened when the board was having trouble (the day Wellstone crashed). It would look like you were posting but you'd get thrown back to the main board without a "success" notice and no sign that your message had been posted. Went on for a couple of hours. The dedicated (myself included) tried reposting a couple of times, and then eventually they all showed up.

Glad to hear the Dallas paper endorsed Cornyn. Sent in my vote for him last week.

Newspaper endorsements are very useful - particularly in "down ballot" races where you don't know anything about the candidates. It works like this:

Pick the most liberal paper in your community. Write down the names of the candidates they endorse. When it is time to vote, pull out this piece of paper and vote for anybody else. In Austin, it's a blueprint for proper voting.

Okay, good rule - they plug for Ron Kirk so you know he's a stinker, same with them tarnishing steve smith ... except the Austin American statesman actually endorsed Bentzin over Barrientos!! Bentzin is the Republican here and Barrientos the 18-year incumbent iliberal Democrat. I guess Barrientos' DUI conviction and his stunning lack of accomplishments for 18 year finally caught up with him, but *yet* I am surprised. I didnt think the AAS had it in them. :-)

I didn't think they would either. But even the AAS can be right every now and again. They'll try not to let that happen again.

It sounds like, for the most part, they endorse the Dem if it's close, the Dem if he's leading, and the Pub if the Dem doesn't have a chance. Hopefully, their endorsement of Bentzin is a sign that his poll numbers look good but I won't hold my breath.

Dallas Morning News Endorses John Cornyn while liberal Houston Chronoicle endorses Ron Kirk.

No surprise there the Houston Chronicle also endorsed Sheilla "Ubangi Zulu" Jackson Lee!
