I have a cute story that is somewhat related. Gen John Jumper, AF Chief of Staff, visited here (Maxwell AFB) in September, and I was lucky enough to here him speak. He related a story of when he was commander in Kosovo.
He and his staff were upset that they could have a Predator over a target, and the Predator could not talk to the A-10's, OR F-117's or other AC in the area to tell them there was a target present.
Gen. Jumper solved the problem by having Laser pointers installed on the Predators (gotta love Battlefield mods). The Lasers were set up to work with the camera's. Whatever the Predator saw the Laser pointed to. So when the Predator identified the target, the other AC could drop a LAser-guided armament on it.
Well, when Gen Jumper was later made commander of Air Combat Command. His first question to his new staff was "how are the Laser Predators doing?"
he said the staff all looked at each other funny, and then said "Predatorss don't have lasers sir, that's not part of the project".
Gen Jumper then said "It is NOW"
Looks like the CIA has added a little bit more to the "project" these days. hehhehehehehe
BTW, if you ever get the chance to hear Gen. Jumper speak - DO SO! He is one of the most dynamic and inspiring speakers I have ever heard.
