Legendary New York talk radio host Bob Grant said Monday that the establishment press has signaled its approval of a racist attack on National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice by failing to condemn or even publicize it.
"Since the target is a member of the Bush administration, apparently people in the media say, 'Well, that's all right,'" Grant told NewsMax during his WOR broadcast.
The New York talker was responding to a question about the Neil Rogers Show, a Florida radio broadcast that features a song parody describing Rice as "a black-haired answer-mammy who be smart" - who also "parks the whitey's cars" and "cleans all the White House bathrooms."
Performed in an Amos n' Andy accent to the tune of Nat King Cole's "Mona Lisa," some say the lyrics of the Rogers' Show staple "Condoleezza" are the most vivid display of on-air racism heard anywhere in decades:
"Condoleezza, Condoleezza, what you be doin'? That neo-facist black-haired token schwarze dog.
"Is you there 'cause you a high-toned public Negro?
Is you their black-haired answer-mammy who be smart?
Does they like how you shine their shoes, Condoleezza?
Or the way you wash and park the whitey's cars.
"Georgie junior says he trusts you, Condoleezza.
Who said our [unintelligible] off the greedy oil woes.
But then he make you clean all the White House bathrooms.
The public sink, the toilet and let's scrub the floors."
Far from being a member of radio's lunatic fringe, Rogers broadcasts in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Ft. Myers over WQAM, and, according to one industry insider consulted by NewsMax, has a "huge" radio audience. The Bush administration critic is listed by Talkers Magazine as number 15 among the greatest radio hosts of all time.
Reacting to the lyrics of "Condoleezza," WOR's Grant told NewsMax, "God forbid if I should do that and use as my target somebody else."
The New York host has more than one reason to be offended by the media cover-up of the racist attack on Rice. Grant himself was let go by WABC in 1996 after pressure was brought by Rev. Jesse Jackson and others on the station's owner, Walt Disney Corp., over a remark he uttered upon learning that a plane carrying Clinton Commerce Secretary Ron Brown had crashed.
"I'm a pessimist at heart," Grant said, after predicting that early reports Brown had survived the crash were probably true. The comment, while completely innocuous compared to Rogers' "Condoleezza" parody, was seized upon by Grant's critics to claim he was racist.
Interestingly, Rogers' station also has ties to Disney, though the media giant has yet to react to "Condoleezza." While WQAM is owned by the Beasley Group, the station is listed among ESPN's radio affiliates on the sports network's Web site. Disney bought ESPN in 1995.
Rogers could not be reached for comment for NewsMax's initial report two weeks ago on his decision to make "Condoleezza" a regular feature of his show.
But he told FoxNews.com, which picked up the story on Friday, that Rice was the Bush administration's "house Negro."
"It's a fact, it's my opinion," he insisted, adding, "Am I entitled to my opinion?" Rogers then complained, "What do I have to do - in Miami, Fla. - answer to some (expletive deleted) in New York on Fox News how I do my show?"
Despite the outrageous radio attack on the U.S. government's highest ranking African-American woman ever, the civil rights establishment has been largely silent - with one exception.
Decrying the media's double standard, Congress of Racial Equality spokesman Niger Innis told Fox News, "If Rogers, instead of being a white liberal, were a white conservative like Rush Limbaugh using the type of language that Rogers was using, he'd be kicked off the air."
Condi has More credibilty than Loser Harry Belfonte
The best of all the rest. He started it all. We should thank him from the bottom of our hearts.
This story isn't brand new:
Condoleezza Rice Targeted by Racial Song ParodyNeil Rogers is an old, gay liberal whose great love in life is finding ways to insult conservatives and those he disagrees with. He figures that since the good Dr. Rice won't attack him back, he can do/say whatever he wants.
Of course, were he a white conservative talking about a black liberal, he'd be drummed off of the air rather rapidly. We don't hear from the Jacksons and Sharptons in relation to this one -- because in their pitiful minds, it OK to attack a conservative black person. Don't you just love the double-standard in this country?
I have listened to him over the years, and I must respectfully disagree. He attacks people based on their ideology, not their race.
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
Yes he was, and in some ways, he still is.
Rogers isn't worth the trouble. He was once a decent broadcaster. But over the last ten years, he's become so mean, vile and bitter, that I suppose I would have been surprised if he had not attacked Condi or Powell sometime sooner or later.
Imagine some of the more vile DU posters, and you might get close to what listening to Rogers is like. His show is (or at least it was) streamed on the web. You can listen for yourself. But don't say I didn't warn you.
Pray for GW and the Truth
I find this particularly disturbing after Bellefonte's remarks.
Thanks!

I wonder why it has been removed from his web site. Do you think it's because he doesn't want people to know who to contact?

This is incredible, even by today's Liberal Brown Shirt tactics. These vermin are not qualified to shine Rice's pumps---notwithstanding this racist bildge that they spew.
Liberals cannot afford to let Rice succeed without their support. It will weaken them further and marginalize them completely.
I have read that Ms. Rice is a Christian woman. I think God has a great plan for her.
Yeah, a laugh a minute. Rice is being targeted due to the fact that she is a serious threat to Hillary's political aspirations. The President has stated that VP Cheney will be his running mate in 2004 should he so choose. My gut instinct tells me that Dr. Rice will be GW's running mate. The morally bankrupt and bloated Clinton machine has commenced preemptive character strikes. Dr. Rice as the Republican presidential candidate in 2008 would be difficult to beat.

Somebody understands!
About a year and a half ago, before the attacks, I strongly suspected that the attack on Condi would commence with a snarky Dowd piece in the NYT. In fact, it began with something far more sinister.
See, Hillary figures that she can undo Condi by using her allies in the black community to target her early on. She figures, rightly, that white liberals won't condemn it because it is seen as a "within the community" affair.
But be aware, none of this is happening by accident.
Hillary must make Rice a liability to the Administration. If Bush chooses her for the VP post, or appoints her after Cheney leaves, that's it. Hillary's ambitions are done. She knows this, so she is doing what she can to hurt Rice in the early going.
What Hillary does not understand is who she is f%$king with.
The Hildebeast has never confronted someone who is not afraid of her. She has never confronted someone that is wise to the ways of Washington and is willing to strike back. Trust me on this, Rice is patient. She also has the kind of internal steel that was a characteristic of Lady Thatcher.
All Hillary has done with this Attack of the Stepinfetchits is to piss Condi off.
That is all she has done, and it was not a smart thing to do.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
There is a black talk show person in NYC named Mark Riley. He is extremely racist but he will never say anything that puts words in his own mouth. His callers will go off on the most ridiculous anti-white, anti-Bush, anti-Republican tirades and he will never interrupt them. And, when they are finished he will only say something like "good point" then thank them for calling. If, however a caller takes any opposing position Riley will go at him with an outraged vengeance. Grant is the same way on the other side. Too many times he will give racist voices a platform without fear of contradiction then respond with "Joe, thanks for the call". It's a transparent racist game and they both have made ita crucial part of the appeal they have to a certain audience.
Listen to Grant for whatever reasons you have but don't be blind to what he is.
Rather than get long-winded about it, I'll just mention that vocal clues are not race, and he speaks very highly of many black people like Condi Rice, Colin Powell, JC Watts, etc. He is judging them by something other than the color of their skin. To me that means he is not a racist. MLK mentioned something about "content of their character" in one of his famous speeches.
He would be a racist in my mind if he always judged people based on their race, regardless of any other criteria such as ideology, etc.
On another note, his knowledge of history is unsurpassed in the talk show arena, and his instincts for unintended consequences are superb.
Grant knows his audience and he plays to it, just like Riley does. Again I say, listen to him or them but hear everything they say and allow to be said unchallenged. They are peas in a pod.
What started this thread was a slap at Rice's color and the stereotypes of a racist nature that a radio host used. Grant objected to this, as anyone should. My issue is that Grant's tagging Dinkins as the "washroom attendant" was just the same...racist and juvenile.
