She also notes that there are no black Senators. Fineswine, resign and let a black have your seat, then.

Which political party is obsessed with skin color and which one tries to look past skin color to the content of one's character? I forget.

SSDD. They will scream and wail and lie and demonize and in the end they will lose.

Go ahead, fineswine, you are not enough of a shrill hag, shriek a little louder.

I, a Libertarian, don't care a lick for most Republicans, and the only reason I voted for Talent and prodded on a dozen friends and family to vote for him was of the Dim's absolute unreasonableness on judge confirmations. The recent election hasn't sunk in, it seems.

This is great. Hatch and Sessions are calling Edwards bluff on opposing Shedd.

Jesus, Hatch is destroying Edwards. Edwards claimed no one won discrimination cases in front of Shedd. Hatch just specifically listed about 10 cases where that wasn't true. Smackdown!

Edwards is such a loser!

Note the nervous smirk and twitch as he's banging his knuckles together.

Too bad Feinstein wasn't around to support and defend Clarence Thomas.

Now dirtbag Durbin from Ill. is on saying he can't support Shedd. The Demorats still don't get it. They are really destroying their party.

They ALL want to be on the record as saying NO.
You're right, they don't get it.

Voice vote taken in committee approving nomination. Democrats spoke up to make sure that their "no" vote was on the record (Durbin, Fienstein, others).

This must have been some sort of deal that the Republicans would get the nominee but none of the Dems would have to vote yes. That is fine with me as long as we get the judge.

I think you're right. Leahy seemed like he wanted to get through the voice vote as fast as he could. The Dems spoke up as soon as he said that the "ayes" have it wishing their "nay" to be on the record. The only "aye" that I heard was Hatch.

The chair doesn't need to make a deal. The republic's have no power yet.

I couldn't watch all of the hearing because of work, but what I did catch was bizarre. What's up with these voice votes? Dem's covering their backside against recrimination from their special-interest base(s)? Pathetic.

Too bad Feinstein wasn't around to support and defend Clarence Thomas.

According to dems, Thomas is not Black. Sen. Feinstein make objections based ONLY on what she has read in the newspaper. Admits she has not read earlier testimony and did not attend earlier hearings.

The chair doesn't need to make a deal. The republic's have no power yet.

The power is that the pubs will chair the committee in a short time and the nominations will go through. They do not want to have bad press (via presidential pulpit) with LA at stake.

C-Span didn't even stick around to watch the farce continue.

Flashback to Clinton's last hours in the White House--

They got a lot of paperwork done, without taking a minute to consult their consciences.

I'll bet all the Judiciary Committee dems wish they could say they weren't present at the earlier testimony.

The fix was in, only voice votes counted. Schumer must have been so upset that the deck was not stacked in his favor that he was a no show.

I liked Hatch. He kept saying (in a low voice) "Let's just get on with the vote", knowing the dems would pass it to the floor this time but tired of the dem grandstanding.

Feinstein wasn't yet in the Senate in '91. But I bet she made comments on the case before being elected to that body in the "Year of the Woman," 1992.
