Gore on 20/20 tonight with Baba Wawa...mentions VP protests in 2000! WTG freepers!!

Posted on 11/15/2002 6:58:23 AM PST by alisasny

Excerpt from Barbara Walters interview with Al Gore and family, which airs tonight on 20/20 at 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT (check your local listings).

The following exchanges, while sure to interest Note readers and historians, actually won't be part of tonight's 20/20 broadcast, so you can read them only here and now:

WALTERS: I'm not sure that people realize that while you were in the residence of the Vice President [during the Florida recount] there were crowds of people outside screaming at you. What was that all about?

AL GORE: Well, this was the Republican response to what was happening during that 36-day period, and they organized busloads of people that came and stood outside the house all day and all night screaming at the top of their lungs.

WALTERS: What, "Get out!"?

TIPPER GORE: Things like that, yes, and, and sometimes … things that we don't want to say on your program, and, some people saw that they were buses from "churches," but it was organized. The one thing that, that they did mainly was reach the bedrooms of our children, and Albert was still in school locally, and trying to study, so we rearranged, you know, they … kids moved to a different part of the house, and I was trying to think of a way that we could kind of laugh about this since obviously it was out of our control, there wasn't anything anybody could do so I got all the boom boxes in the house and … I remember sort of what the government did with Noriega … I thought we'd try that, and I aimed them at, toward, you know, where the crowd …

WALTERS: The crowd?

TIPPER GORE: … And I put nature sounds on and turned it all the way up. And at least the kids laughed.

AL GORE: There were a few, more than a few who supported us and were offended by the organized chanting round the clock who came out on the other street corner during the day to express their support with signs, and … You know, emotions were running high throughout the country and it was just an unprecedented time.

KARENNA GORE: Well, when we were in the Vice President's house during the recount, it was it was very intense. And one of the things I remember is that there was a … an organized effort by, I don't know whether it was the RNC or it was … it was right-wing groups, it was definitely Bush-campaign-oriented effort to bus in people to have a sort of siege at the Vice President's house, and, so, they were all lining there, screaming, and it was kind of an assortment of groups. I mean, some of them were anti, um, were anti-abortion groups, and some of them were pro-gun groups, and some of them … they all had their different signs. But they were all screaming, "Get out of Cheney's house," the whole time. And I just remember being there next to my dad, because I went for a run, and I ran back through them, and I was very upset when I came into the house. And my whole attitude was, like, "We've got to fight back harder. And where are our crowds?" And my dad, I'll never forget his response. He said, "We have to do what's best for the country, and it is not good for the country to have this kind of divisiveness. And he was on the phone, really calling off the dogs. There were people who wanted to fan the … the flames of the racial issue and have real unrest. And he was on the phone asking them not to, because of what was best for the country not because of what was best for him politically. And that's really who he is.

WALTERS: Do you remember the crowds outside screaming?

KRISTEN GORE: The crowds that were screaming outside our house, you know, "Get out of Cheney's house." And other things … of that nature, were really upsetting. It was difficult … It was just very … upsetting that someone would … yell those things at us. It felt … we felt sort of like … trapped in this … you know, little house with all these people yelling mean things. It's no fun. You know, whether you're a child of the person who they're directed at, or anyone else. It … it wasn't a good situation.

WALTERS: Were you scared?

KRISTEN GORE: I was scared that the truth was not going to come out. That's what I was.

After 20/20 and a break for your local news, you can catch Gore on Letterman.

And where are our crowds?"

Hahahahahaha! The same place they are now, sweetie - only in your dreams.

Why didn't the tree mention FR? He knows who did it and he knows the FReepers weren't bussed in.

You answered your own question.

I think you should in person or freepers via email should set the record straight. We in no way yelled anything profane as the gore's imply that we did. We yelled "sore loserman", "learn how to vote", "gore is a chad abuser", "con---cede", "mean spirited, arrogant, condescending liberals", and a few others I can't remember, but there was nothing profane or upsetting about it. It was the democrats driving by that were yelling "no to drunk presidents" and giving the traditional democrat "one finger salutes" to us.

After Gore's concession speech, they forgot to mention our chants of "thank you Al". The next time we see gore, unfortuneately, I think we shall have to chant "gore is a liar" because it is true.

It's B.S. They didn't want to bring in counter-protestors in order to call attention to the FReeping. If there were counter-protests, then the press would be forced to cover it.

I know! I tell you this: I have the same reaction when I read this stuff that I do when I read that stuff out of the ME about the nukes yesterday (even though it turned out to be a hoax!).

These people are DANGEROUS for this country; I swear, I believe Al Gore and his nutty family are filled with the desire for revenge......and the lot of them are crazy.

They are in SERIOUS need of some type of intervention.

It's a good thing their sensitive ears couldn't hear what I was ranting at the televison while he was trying to steal the election, manufacture votes, and disenfranchise the military.

It's full of lies.

Yes, I agree.
That's why I was surprised they weren't left in "as is", the media normally being the useful tools of the Jackass party.

Thanks to the DC Chapter for organizing the bus transportation;^) It was extremely effective.

"They are so use to having their union friends organize every single "demonstration" for them, they must have been shocked at a spontaneous outpouring. Obviously they just cannot handle the fact that they are out of the mainstream thought in this world, then and now, and have to find some sort of justification for what went on outside that house."

Exactly right.

The Radical Left Wingers ALWAYS ACCUSE US of doing what they do routinely.

What a neat trick.

We (leftwing crooks) cheat, lie, steal, bus in thugs and goons - so we will accuse you (US) of doing the same.

When the people on the "RIGHT" do NOT do those things!

Yes it was organized - right here - in the open - for the whole world to see. It was organized by people who were totally offended by the attempted theft of the 2000 Presidential Election and by the man whose "Political party" thugs were trying to force their will on America AGAINST THE WILL OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

I have not watched and will not watch one second of Barbara Wawa. The LIARS at ABC try - and fail - again.

Oh, I see now..........hey, I like the way YOU think. Gosh, we've been on FR too long.....we see evil everywhere........LOL.

I will tell you this though: I'm more concerned than EVER about the Democrats. They are cornered and I swear they will do whatever it takes -- say whatever it takes -- to win. We have to PRAY that people are beginning to see the light.

We just cannot let these people anywhere near power again.

I still think he abuses his wife. I have never recovered from seeing him showing that full-frontal, pregnant, nude self-portrait of Tipper that hangs in the hallway of the Tennessee home they had at the time....and I thought to myself "Why would she paint that? Why would she hang that in their home where children and grandchildren could see it?"

Then Gore made a concerted effort to show it in that convention movie and I thought he was really creepy and humiliated her, and got pleasure in doing so.

I also think one of the daughters looks anorexic.

One Gore contradicting another? Get your lies in order.

The utter comtempt these cretins have for the intelligence and memory of the American voter is sickening.

To paraphrase a former president: "These lies will not stand."

Hail to the courageous Freepers who demanded the expulsion of the Democrat usurpers!

Oh Really! Surely not the peace loving Democrat Party? Wanting to start race riots? Come now.

"Organized busloads", my arse!

BTW, I have jpegs taken of the two corners on Massachusetts Avenue, showing the huge number of our crowd compared to the tiny Gore Supporters.

And, guess which crowd was featured above the fold on Page 1 of the Washington Post?

If somebody knows how to post photo graphics here, I would more than happy to email them to you so that we all could enjoy them.

I even remember how we laughed at something Miss Marple said about the Democrats being so surprised to see protesters who were actually DRESSED properly!

MM, what was it you said about handbags? :-)

Here is the email I just sent Baba:

I just read the excerpts of Barbara's interview of Al Gore. He states that people were bussed in to protest him. I would tell you that that is an out and out lie. No busses were needed. It was a true grassroots effort on the part of many Americans that went to protest Al Gore at the VP mansion. My husband and I just got in our car and drove to the mansion. We went with a trunk full of signs that I made, and had a good time expressing our first amendment rights in front of Cheney's house.

Only in America!

No, you were absolutely correct. I was alluding to my post #31. The same quote leapt off the page at me too. Karenna saw her Dad's hopes and dreams going down the tubes and felt they were going to have to resort to manufacturing civil unrest, destruction and possible loss of lives in order for her Daddy to have a chance. And apparently, there were a few heavy hitters in the Gore campaign that felt the same drastic measure was necessary also. Truly troubling.

I was pleased to see I was in good company with my thoughts.
