U.S. Forces Take Fire in 3 Afghanistan Incidents
By Kathleen T. Rhem
WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 2002 -- U.S. forces in Afghanistan
took enemy fire Nov. 19 in three different incidents. No
Americans were injured.
The first incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m.
local time. Unknown assailants fired automatic weapons
toward and above the firebase at Tarin Kowt, about 200
miles southwest of Kabul. Defense officials said a quick
reaction force was sent to investigate, but no other
details were available.
A Special Forces unit based in Jalalabad, about 60 miles
east of Kabul, was searching a compound for a suspected
weapons cache at about 7 a.m. local time when five persons
opened fire with AK-47 rifles. The attackers fled when the
soldiers returned fire, officials said.
The soldiers continued their search and took sniper fire
when they entered a building. They again returned fire and
may have wounded the sniper, though no one was found,
officials reported. The search confirmed the compound had
been used as a drug lab.
Early in the afternoon of Nov. 19, a Special Forces unit in
Asadabad, east of Kabul on the border with Pakistan,
reported enemy contact. Defense officials said A-10
Thunderbolts from Bagram responded and dropped two 500-
pound bombs and fired more than 300 30mm cannon rounds on
the target area. There was no information available on
A Defense Department spokesman said there was no indication
any of the incidents were related.

END OF TRANSMISSION 11/21/02 .......... K
Thank you all for your overly kind and generous comments,
and your many pictures and critical observations.
Look at what's happened now. Osama bin Laden is back making threats at us. Al Qaeda is back posing just as serious a threat as it did during the weeks leading up to 9/11, according to our intelligence agencies. The war lords are back in power in Afghanistan, and the Taliban is back in Afghanistan. The chairman of the joint chiefs of staff said we're losing ground there. The CIA folks are complaining that resources have been diverted away from the war against terrorism to the war against Iraq. I think that...
Great pics of the children-love the smiles on the little girls-so GOOD to see this!
And the masses gathered for the funeral...scary stuff...lots of anti-American sentiment. We need to pray for truth to prevail.
And you need to put a PUKE ALERT UP when you are going to place scott ritter on this thread. He truly makes me feel ill.
Al gore needs to be spanked and put in a corner with about fifty or so of Diogenesis' threads for company.
Another question: If any of this could get through to the Iraqis, what effect do you think it would have on the average Iraqi? Or, perhaps to the Iranians?
Salivating for freedom for their "Talibanannas"? you better, you better, you betchya, you bet!
That is the EXACT transcript off the CNN page.
Your doubt is well founded. The beauty is that W probably doesn't mind that much. I do hope that the White House lurks here on FreeRepublic and has become hooked to your Gotta See This threads and is sharing those photographs of the children with W. That would be reward enough for him, I would think. The smiles on the faces of the little ones are so genuine, so special. May they be blessed and protected....
Hundreds of people carry posters as they demonstrate against a possible war in Iraq, Wednesday Nov.20, 2002 in Paris. Posters from left read: No to the war; Money for schools not for the oil war; No, No blood for oil.
