GOP goes ballistic on Hil-Blasts her 'score to settle' with Saddam comment
New York Daily News ^ | 11/22/02 | TIMOTHY J. BURGER

Posted on 11/22/2002 1:13:18 AM PST by kattracks

WASHINGTON - Republicans blasted Sen. Hillary Clinton yesterday for suggesting President Bush wants regime change in Iraq to settle his father's old score with Saddam Hussein.

White House spokesman Ken Lisaius said simply that Bush is targeting the Iraqi dictator only because of "the threat posed by weapons of mass destruction in the possession of Saddam Hussein. ... The President has been amazingly clear with the American people and the world."

The Republican National Committee, however, had much harsher words for New York's junior senator.

Voting to use force

"A cheap, political potshot," RNC spokesman Kevin Sheridan said.

"Unless she's impugning her own vote [authorizing Bush to use military force if necessary], that argument doesn't hold water," Sheridan said. "He's settling a score for the American people to rid the world of terrorism wherever it rears its head."

The White House and the GOP were responding to comments that Clinton (D-N.Y.) made on MSNBC's "Hardball" Wednesday night.

"It is clear that a lot of people in this administration have some old scores to settle," Clinton said.

She appeared to be referring to the 1991 Gulf War in which President George Bush evicted Saddam from Kuwait but left him standing. Saddam later tried to assassinate the former President when Bush visited Kuwait.

"There are old scores to settle, Mrs. Clinton - about a million people who have died at the hands of the Butcher of Baghdad," said Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.).

"This isn't a back-alley fight between two kids. This is for real, and there isn't time for a listening tour to make up your mind on where to stand," Foley said in a jab at Clinton for her pre-campaign exploratory travels throughout New York State.

Clinton, who voted to authorize the use of force against Saddam, agreed repeatedly with Bush on the threat that Saddam poses but said he appears too eager for military action.

"Carrying a big stick is one thing, but to talk all the time like you are inviting war, that you're anxious to go to war, I think does a great disservice to our nation, and I just don't agree with that approach," she said.

Last night, Clinton spokeswoman Philippe Reines said, "Sen. Clinton gave a full and a reasoned analysis of why she supports the administration on the war, and it is unfortunate that the RNC is treating it as a political issue."

The very presence of the Hildebeast in the Senate is a disservice to our nation.
What a disgrace!

What the---

It's NOT a political issue?

Hillary WASN'T using it as a political issue to advance herself?

Think I'll go bang my head against the wall for a while...

why doesn't someone ask Shrillery the obvious question..."Whether she and bill are still married and if they ever see each other any more."

You just know if she runs for Prez they are going to resurrect the clinton family unit for public consumption once again with tales of how they "raised a great kid."

Uh ,no Your Heinous, it shows the world that you are ready to go to war if need be. There was no pressure applied on Sodom during the previous administration so he felt free to continue with his ways. The previous 8 years showed that talking softly and carrying no stick was a sure-fire way to get a knife in the side. Go back under your rock. You and the former First Husband have done enough damage already.

Hillary is pure evil

I think she fits in the untrustworthy, opportunistic, liar, using a man to get what she wants category. She would be nowhere at all had she not jumped on the back of Bill Clinton for the ride. Her history, disposition and Saul Alinsky connection would never have allowed her to advance. Watching her slink through the process of the senatorial election in New York was a warning to everyone. She will do anything at all to get power. She wants the whitehouse.

It's precisely this kind of approach, idiot-witch, that provides an opportunity for Saddam to be deposed by his own people, the tough talk is directed at his own military, who, no doubt, want to avoid another rout. If she will just shut up, our young men may not have to die to accomplish our objectives.

That b!tch wants a war. She has vested interest in making people think Bush has conflicts of interests, making her full of it. She is not even hidding her ambitions. What is worse is that she wants to start a revolution and a war against Bush within the US, something terrorists are seeking all along.

Perhaps what is so ironic is that even if Bush wanted to settle a score shared by his father, considering the attack at the Pentagon and the WTC, it sounds like a fairly worthy cause.

Now what cause does the Senator from New York advance when she opposes force being used against those who fostered the attack of the World Trade Center?

Exactly. She is glad Saddam is making war on the US to divide the US. She is one happy camper and probably is screaming at the thug to launch a surprise attack on our troops and Israel.

I guess saying "terrorism wherever it rears its ugly head" - could have been misconstrued as an insult to the woman in question. Unbecoming, and all that.

Not only is Hillary primping for a key post in the Senate, she's also trying to distract and distance herself from the looming financial problems, service cuts, fare and tax hikes, etc. that New York City is facing.

Fancy that: the Senator from New York hasn't uttered a peep about solving the major city's problems. Just goes to show the Senatorship is merely a platform for her national and global ambitions.

If New York voters don't wake up soon, they will continue to be led down the proverbial path to the worship center of Hillary's massive ego.

Well, the son has his own score to settle with Saddam. That assasination attempt on George Bush Sr. and his party - including one Laura Welch Bush - is reason enough to whack Saddam out forthwith. 9/11 or no 9/11.

New Yorkers must wake up and vote her out of office in 2006. If she loses her senate powerbase, there ain't no way she could successfully run in 2008.

So, what approach do you agree with mrs. xlinton? Would it be one where your husband receives oral while discussing troop movements? Or maybe, the approach of continuing to do nothing so as to not alienate some particular minority voting block.

This lesbian belongs in jail and here she is receiving a love fest on national T.V. I did not see the show but, I'm sure chrissy gave her the softball treatment.

You're right. And, you just know that after we get done kicking ass in Iraq, she will be the one of many who will jump on the victory bandwagon proclaiming that "I authorized the use of force, I knew all along we were doing the right thing", etc, etc. We need to get ahead of her and start reminding the American people now that she, along with many others, have offered nothing but obstruction in regards to Iraq.

Spoken like a Clinton. It is not actions, or even substantive policies, that matter, but rather words, attitudes, intentions, symbolism, appearances. Thank God these purile posers are out of the whitehouse.

I didn't vote for her and I would never vote for her. She is an idiot. But the President didn't help himself when he commented about Saddam, "After all, this is the guy who tried to kill my dad." That made it sound like this was some sort of family blood feud.
