I had the pleasure of hearing a Lockheed U2 pilot describe the progression of and flying various models of the U2. Apparently, at altitude they operate in a 12-knot window where they either “fall” or exceed Mach 1 – both could be dangerous for the U2. He also describe, when business was over, flying relaxed with arms cross looking in wonder at the hugh dark star spangled sky above.
Yes, Mr. Johnson designed another great flying machine and truly helped give our country the edge.
