Although, lots of kids go to school with "queers" and think their parents are out to lunch on the subject.
But to go beyond that, it's easy to buckle under your own high standard. I think everyone knows how that feels.
I would hate to set a wholesale standard for Muslims today, only to have it tossed in my face tomorrow.
Honestly, some of the things I have seen advocated on these threads are nothing short of tyranny.
What if it were a bunch of McVeigh types who killed 3000 in the "name of Jesus & Ronald Reagan" .. And, suddenly people were crying out about "dangerous" Conservatives, Christians and (worst of all) Christian Conservatives.

The numbers to which you allude are not nearly equal to the Islamist threat. Let's frame it this way: there are 28-42 million McVeighs in the USA who, since the tenth century, have murdered millions in the name of Jesus and Reagan. Would you hesitate to cry out about dangerous Christian conservatives?

I would however point out that the innocent Christian Conservatives (like myself) don't deserve to be punished for their actions.

Exactly. For now it's the 10-15% Islamists we have to punish. In due time we'll see if that number needs to be revised.

And what "hysteria"?? Could it be a FReepers' internal 'BARF Alert' mechanism in response to "Islam: the reigion of peace"? Haven't we had quite enough smoke blown up our collective @ssed by the 8 years of the Clinton regine?
Ok, maybe we are all over-reacting. Maybe it is just a figment of our collective imagination that whereever Islam has gained a foothold throughout the world, it has bore nothing but bondage, torture and misery for its inhabitants. MAYBE the Koran does not instruct its bretrhren to kill "infidels." And maybe "only" 1/2% of America Muslims actually believe it so -- no cause for alarm, right?
Nonetheless, IMO the reaction is more a FREEPER'S historical and intuitive sense of recognizing an unprecedented yet legitimate threat to OUR freedom and OUR country from within.
Let's face it -- American Islam needs to earn their "benefit of the doubt" and measure of respect and acceptance by and large from it's "fellow" Americans. They may have to "prove their allegiance", as did American black and American Japanese servicemen did during WWII -- by some kind of dramatic sacrificing or overly patriotic gestures.

I've had more than my share of bloody encounters with bad Muslims, but mass detention of any group is a sobering thought which I hope never again comes to pass. I thought about this a few evenings ago as I passed a local "Muslim Community Center" and marveled at how the parking lot was overflowing for a Ramadan celebration. I am sure that most of the families there are very nice, law-abiding people who live here for the same reasons I do. But it's the others who bother me. I'm sure Uncle Sam has that place infiltrated, but you never know for certain who's who in such a closed circle with its own language, nuance and moral code. I hope the situation never reaches that lowest point where the only safe course is total isolation. It well might, and I fear that it might, but I hope not...
Drive the infidels from the MidEast. Let the Goy travel to other lands where they can fornicate and eat cake without disrupting the NATIONS of Islam. I know the term NATION is a BAD, BAD word because Bush Fuhrer has said so and that makes it true, don't you know. snicker.
