DNC Chair Calls on President Bush to Denounce Trent Lott's Comments on Race [Dream on, Terry Mac!]
ABC News Political Exclusive ^ | December 11, 2002 | Liz Wilner

Posted on 12/11/2002 8:03:34 AM PST by ewing

The Macker [DNC Chair McAuliffe] was due to add the following comments this morning at the Presidential Primary 'Politcs and Eggs' breakfast in Beford, New Hampshire.

'Given this pattern, [of Lott's repeated racial statements] it is simply not credible for Senator Lott to continue to assert that the comments that he made in support of Senator Thurmond's segregationist campaign were anything more 'than a poor choice of words.'

Sadly, it would rather appear that these comments reflect Senator Lott's true prejudices on race.'

'The time has come for leaders of the Republican Party to speak out against Senator Lott's remarks.

I call on George Bush and Marc Racicot Chairman of the Republican Party, to denounce Senator Lott's comments..'

'Likewise I join incoming Congressional Black Caucus Chair Representative Elijah Cummings is expressing concern with Senator Lott's fitness to serve as leader of the United States Senate.'

why is everybody so dern sure that Lott was referring only to race when he said that things would be better had Thurmond won?

Apparently you have not heard the latest spin...Republicans use "code words" when they discriminate. Some nutcase said this on O'Reilly a few nights ago...I spit beer all over the place when I heard it, it was hysterical.

Lott could have made some of this go away by talking to the press instead of releasing 3 written statements..

Sure thing jackoff, just as soon as you and X42 Publicly apologize for, and repudiate "Everytime you vote Republican, another Black Church Burns" .....

Exactly

Since we're in agreement, (and since I worked last night), I am going to bed now.
I'll leave it up to the three conservative Magi to come up with how we keep Lott for now, but in due time, firmly yet gently replace him with Senator Allen.

I agree. Trent Lott needs to go and this is as good a reason as any. He was a crappy SML for the Republicans when he had the job. He'll be crappy again and have this baggage with him. If it was one time diarhea (-5sp) of the mouth, OK, but it wasn't. Can you see the mailers for the Democrats going out with his picture and his quotes on it? He can't be the SML. Get a good, decent republican without this baggage. What a great opportunity for some new blood on top. Republicans are going to need it.

I don't see how Lott could be confused about this.

I can. Vacant Lott is as dumb as he is spineless.

He doesn't need to go for being a racist, which he isn't. He needs to go for being an idiot, which he is.

Actually, their platform was State's Rights. That covers a lot of stuff - but Big Gubmint propogandists have now written the history on it...."State's Rights" means "segregation"....much like being against "hate crime" legislation makes you a racist today.

No doubt there were avid segregationist who found refuge in the State's Rights movement, but there is also no doubt that the underlying philosophy of State's Rights (and NO, I don't mean segregation) was correct. Remember - FDR had just turned the Federal Government into a continental nanny and Truman was proposing more of the same.

State's Rights meant only one thing? Yeah right! About like Libertarians are only interested in legalizing drugs.

White Aryan Resistance's position on abortion, in part:
"Among non-Whites, invest in ghetto abortion clinics. Help to raise money for free abortions. Abortion clinic syndicates throughout North America, that primarily operate in non-White areas and receive tax support, should be promoted."
And the DNC 2000 Platform, in part:
"The Democratic Party stands behind the right of every woman to choose, consistent with Roe v. Wade, and regardless of ability to pay."

They're saying the same thing. "Equal access to reproductive health services for minorities" and all that rot. Lott's a buffoon, but Terry has black blood money in his wallet.

"Well camle... the reason for being for the dixiecrats was to protest integration. They were segregationists, and proud of it. That was their only major issue in 1948. It wasn't the capital gains tax cut, it wasn't abortion, the second amendment, free trade, the earned income tax credit... it was segregation. Period. "

And why is this little tidbit of trivia not being shouted from teh rooftops?!?! It's not this was happening 200 years ago. We are talking about a little over 50 years ago when the democrats were pushing a heavy non-integration/anti-civil rights agenda. How is this any less important than what Lott uttered 20 years ago?

Do you recall that incredible moment in history after Der Schlickmeister had been impeached by the House of Representatives, and everyone of these linguini-spined little Dem weasels trotted out on the steps to pledge their support for a guy who was a traitor to our country, committed perjury before a Federal judge, had raped several women, and had stained the reputation of the Presidency for evermore.

Bill Clinton could have raped and killed a black lesbian amputee war veteran on live TV and they would have rushed to kiss his ass.

Yes, Lott never should have been given the post and he should resign, but man, oh man, we love to eat our own!

Tell the DNC, Bush will appologize for Lott statements when the DNC appologizes for all the law breaking by Bill and Hillary Clinton.

I do realize that there is NO way they could be confronted with their own racism

Quite true. Still we should be better than they.

Oh, absolutely. That's why Lott HAS to go, IMO. As my mother always says, "We do what you're SUPPOSE to do, not what THEY do."

There is a 'payback is sweet' element here for Lott's abandoment of the House Managers in 1998.
