WASHINGTON Prominent civil libertarians have suggested that a McCarthy style witch hunt for terrorists in America could be an even greater threat to America than the terrorists themselves.

And now, a four-star general in charge of preparing the military for any future terror attacks is expressing similar concerns.

The sad truth as the Venona Cables show--is that McCarthy
was right. Likely if the spin doctors had not grabbed that tale and run with it the--USA would be a much different place today.

As it is the challenge posed by the ambitious vain and ignorant Moslems isn't half so great as that posed by the Mexicans and the Chinese as the Chinese are not ignorant and the Mexicans are not vain.

I think the general's right; I've always been suspicious of "emergency" legislation of any kind, and never more so than that establishing the Dept. of Fatherland Homeland Security.
And then to put an East Coast liberal like Tom Ridge in charge, why, we might as well have hired Fidel's younger brother Raoul!

It is not the kind of statement you see every day. I'm not sure what to make of it. No question the "Patriot Act" and "Homeland Security" give me the creeps. I notice no one appears to have an actual copy of the text of either posted anywhere.

Do you suppose he has read the final copies and we have not?

Best regards,

Agreed. Good point. I wonder if our "wind up and pitch" against Saddam haven't become too predictable.

If we are prepared to fight a two front war what is to stop the "Axis of Hate" from initiating a three, four or five front war the day after we deploy troops in Iraq?

It would be a terrible thing to have to nuke the Panama Canal after all the effort we put into it's construction.

Correct. We should be prepared to defend the HOMEFRONT with our HOMEFRONT rifles and equipment and we should establish HOMEFRONT training ranges in every nook and cranny of America where citizens can go to practice marksmanship and learn the strategy and tactices of true National Security. THAT would be the proper conservative approach to HOMEFRONT Security.

Best regards,
