That interview was an absolute classic. I just got home and could wait to get on here and see the reviews. I was in the waiting room of a Drs. office watching it grinning ear to ear. Shep's shining moment!

"See, they're just like little kids. I don't like him, I don't want to call him president. So there!"

Thanks for the explanation...and how right you are!

I did the same thing concerning Clinton :~)

He would have said that his remarks were not related to the segregation aspect of Thurmonds canidacy and told anybody who thought otherwise that they were the ones mistaken.

Further mentioning: (1) he was seven years old at the time; (2) seven-year-olds are often proud of things they don't totally understand; (3) Senator Thurmond has changed a lot in the past half-century and no longer advocates the views he once did.

To help fill in the gaps, for the clueless: in considering how great Senator Thurmond is now, and remembering how great he seemed them, it was all too easy for Lott to forget that the Thurmond of 1948 may not have been the same as the Thurmond of 2002.

Lott should have hit the Democrats' pitch out of the ballpark. Instead he struck out. Repeatedly.

It is possible I suppose to weave the proverbial silk purse from a sow's ear....worth hoping for anyhow isn't it?

You are a busy FReeper, and I always
like to read your posts.

I hope you look at mine again, if you
have opportunity...or take my word for
it that I didn't(and don't) say a word
about "surrendering and keeping Lott".

Seriously, I was wanting to highlight
that Rush thinks this has become so
much bigger than Lott or his fate, as
the Libs/Dems plan to trash all of us
Conservatives/Repubs as racist.

Someone posted that if you don't hand
them a gun(as Lott did), you're less
likely to suffer what Lott has.

Rush dealt with that today. I used his
comments to spark discussion. I surely
didn't expect what I got.

If I misread what you posted, I apologize.

And I agree with you, this is their plan. But I contend that if you don't make silly statements, then when they do attack you, you can take the moral highground. The reason Lott didn't is because he has no moral highground in this circumstance.

And it was I who used the gun reference!

I didn't ask sympathy for Lott or that
he be bailed out. I quoted Rush, who
said they(our enemies) plan on going
after every potential Senate Leader,
also President Bush etc. etc. They
have a planned approach to trash us
all, whether "handed a gun"(as Lott
did) or not handed one. Voting records
rated by the NAACP, for example...

I was just raising it for discussion,
after hearing Rush on it today.

Well, the decision is in Lott's hands, isn't it?

Interesting that the governor's first choice is, naturally, a crook.
