Pray for the Poor Souls
Pieta Prayerbook

Posted on 12/25/2002 5:14:21 PM PST by attagirl

Christmas is the time in which more souls are released from further suffering in purgatory than at any other time. Remember to mention them in your prayer petitions today. And once they are released, they will pray for you from Heaven. Merry Christmas.

I can't remember which saint got this private revelation, but let's act on it.

Where in the Bible is the word Pergatory? Or the mention of any saint in Heaven praying for anyone on earth?

See Revelation 5:8. Also The Communion of the Saints is implied in Hebrews 11 and 12 ("Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses ...").

Yours in Christ,

Martin

Being that today is Christmas, you think there is the slightest chance you can just let someone post a thread that does no harm to anyone and let it be? Go start your own thread and let this one be. At least for today.

Please, it's Christmas. Attagirl asked this of those that believe. Please don't argue against anyone's beliefs today. It is unbecoming and not what Christ would want as a birthday present. I will pray for EVERYONE today, as Christ gave us a fine gift. Himself. Thank you Attagirl. Merry Christmas and All God's Blessing upon us all.

Why are you so defensive? Why do you suggest I start a new thread? Anyone is allowed to comment here. What's your problem?

Then good news for you as well. If I should tell you to go to hell, you won't in the least find this offensive. How about a little cheer today, OK?

Re your # 6...

Why insult other people's religion? I don't believe in any God, pergatory or not, but know an aggressive, uneducated jerk when confronted by such a truly insensitive smear of someone else.

It was a very early custom Christians, unlike pagans, to pray for the dead, and as St. Augustine pointed out, there's no point in praying for souls already in heaven and hell.

In his study examining the origins of the Jewish tradition of praying for the dead, Solomon Reinach nicely observes: "Pagans prayed to the dead, Christians prayed for the dead" ("De l’origine des prières pour les morts," Revue des Etudes juives 41 [1900]: 164).

Good news! Puragtory (and hell) is nothing more than a hideous myth concocted by superstitious idiots.

Good news! Superstitious idiots pray for dopey atheists on Christmas Day!

Oh, I see. So, it's just a tradition, but not authorized by God. Okay. But what about this word Pergatory? I can't find it in my Bible.

I don't believe in "purgatory"

However, if it’s any consolation, I will pray for the "poor souls" we have right here..

It must be tough for them, especially this time of year. Everyone is rejoycing and buying presents and all the material stuff that associated with the hollidays, while they are like dogs staring in the butchers window.

Where in the dictionary is the word "Pergatory"?

I can't find it in my Bible.

In that case, you probably don't want to join attagirl in her prayer request. Or, you can.

You are right, anyone is allowed to post here. In America anyone is allowed to give an opinion. Anyone is allowed to be as shallow and crass as they would like. My mother taught me that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. If you don't say anything, you do not prove you are meanspirited or nasty. People tend to assume you will not insult anyone for trying to be nice.

It's strictly a Catholic thing if I recall.

This praying you see referenced here is derived from a verse in the Old Testament. You can probably find it with a google search.

I don't believe "Pergatory" is in the scriptures, at least not in the Protestant bible.
