Drugs and terrorism and insulting ads
Boston Globe ^ | 1/13/2003 | Cathy Young

IT WAS ONLY a matter of time: A new television ad campaign suggests that if you drive a sport -utility vehicle, you are helping terrorism by putting money in the pockets of oil-producing, terrorism-sponsoring countries like Saudi Arabia and Iraq. One of the commercials cuts from a man at a gas station to a map of the Middle East to video footage of a terrorist training camp, while a little girl's voice says, ''These are the terrorists who get money from those countries every time George fills up his SUV.''

I wonder if we can donate to FR and designate that none of the money be used to support MrLeRoy's posts. Could triple the contributions.

I will second that. Drug advocates like LeRoy try to imply that drugs other than alchohol and tobacco are not harmful (evidence: note how he _only_ refers to alcohol and tobacco as "deadly and addictive").

Since LeRoy will call me a liar, people only need search his posts in the forum.

While MrLeRoy can speak for himself, I'd like to speak for myself and refute your supposition.
You say "drug advocates" as if the man were saying "go out and toke/shoot/snort up". I don't read where he supports that, nor do I. I believe that drug use is an individual's decision, not subject to the State or Federal government's dictates. If that were so then anyone could be forced to take or not take whatever "the government" dictated. Welcome to "A Brave New World" and Soma distribution.
Got high blood pressure? You can't take that medicine "'cause we say you can't". Only "government approved" medicines/treatments are allowed.
As far as the "deadly and addictive" aspect, it is proven that some drugs are physically addicting and that others are psychologically addicting. Some drugs are deadly and others aren't. Marijuana isn't "deadly", but it is psychologically, not physically, addicting and can be used or abused like any other drug. Alcohol and nicotine are physically addicting and can be "deadly", depending on many factors. Cocaine and some other "illegal" drugs that are abused can be deadly also, yet "legal" drugs can also be deadly. It goes by the individual. A heart defect could be deadly with the first time use of cocaine by someone. In the same note a penicillin shot or an anesthesia could cause someone to die.
Some lifelong smokers of tobacco never develop terminal illnesses from smoking and alcohol users, not abusers, rarely suffer deadly affects from that use either. A chronic abuser of alcohol will most certainly get physical complications after years of abuse.
There is so much more I could say, but why bother...(see the tag line)

As typical with many pro-WODdies, you paint with a wide brush when you should be doing detail work with a one hair brush.

Drug advocates like LeRoy

STILL telling this lie? You are scum.

try to imply that drugs other than alchohol and tobacco are not harmful

Liar.

(evidence: note how he _only_ refers to alcohol and tobacco as "deadly and addictive").

To say that alcohol and tobacco are deadly and addictive is NOT to say nor imply that nothing else is deadly and addictive---any more than to refer to, say, "our courageous Founders" is to say or imply that nobody else is/was courageous.

Since LeRoy will call me a liar, people only need search his posts in the forum.

Anyone who searches will find I am not a drug advocate, and that Hacksaw is a liar.

[philman_36 to Hacksaw:] Nah, you aren't a liar.

Yes he is; I have repeatedly pointed out to him that I am not a drug advocate and have rebutted his every argument for that claim, but he continues to make that claim. When one persists in a frequently-rebutted falsehood, one is a liar.

Simply do a search on your own posts to show your own drug advocacy. You are another LP parasite. BTW, why do you only post during business hours? Slow work day?

Hacksaw, MrLeRoy is one of those on this board who profess, "I don't do X, I don't advocate anyone else doing X, but I think X should be legal". I know, I know, sounds hypocritical doesn't it? But watch this:

You out there, MrLeRoy? Got a question for you.

I know that you wouldn't rip the heads off cute little kittens, and you certainly wouldn't advocate others doing that, but do you think it should be legal? (here's a MrLeRoyism) If not, why not?

I have---they prove you're a stinking liar.

You are another LP parasite.

Another lie; I am not nor ever have been a member or candidate of the LP.

BTW, why do you only post during business hours? Slow work day?

Rebutting your lies and drivel takes no time at all.

Not at all. I don't use alcohol or tobacco, I don't advocate anyone else using alcohol or tobacco, but I think alcohol and tobacco should be legal---is that hypocritical?

Yes.

The trend toward insulting ads started loooonnnnnggggg before these recent SUV spots.

The first ad I ever saw which I found offensive was over 13 years ago:  it was a Nike ad with a woman athlete running around saying the typical stupid stuff like 'You have to follow your feet' and 'You have to be dedicated and believe' and all that other idiotic tripe that Nike commercials always spew.

But, the last thing she said in the ad was "And it would help if you stopped eating like a pig."  Now, I'm not fat, and given my body type I never will be but the couple times I saw that ad my immediate reaction was "F$#k You."

And ever since then, I've refused to buy Nike products.

Now we have offensive ads which paint certain types of people as evil.  Ads that criticize...ads that purposefully annoy...and ads where the vivisection of human body parts is openly shown during prime time.

And I've got news for everyone: it's only going to get worse as the tenor of public discourse becomes more and more tolerate of this type of behavior.

Soon groups like PETA will be showing ads of slaughter-house hot dog lines and anti-abortion groups will be showing fetuses in garbage cans during 'Friends'.

The US is losing it's long-cherished ability to disagree civilly.

My bad, I should rephrase:

"I don't do X, I don't advocate anyone else doing X, but I don't think X should be illegal".

And you waste your employers money with your drug posts on their time.

My posts are within long-established company guidelines.

I am laid off

You are a drug advocate, your posts are evidence of it.

Cite the posts specifically and post the proof or withdraw. The burden of proof is on the accuser.

Otherwise, you are a liar. Live with it.
