Wasn't Nero the protege of Seneca?

"I think they would argue since white men historically have been so influenced by the Judeo/Christian worldview"

OK, Washington and Jefferson were slave holders and of course they were evil. It don't take too much Christian influence to turn a white man bad.

You may want to explain to me Pol Pot and Mao Tze Tung and how they fit into the Judeo/Christian influence?

Here is a blast from the past. Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan:
Part IV. Of the Kingdom of Darkness

Chap. xliv. Of Spiritual Darkness From Misinterpretation of Scripture

Besides these sovereign powers, divine and human, of which I have hitherto discoursed, there is mention in Scripture of another power, namely, that of "the rulers of the darkness of this world," [Ephesians, 6. 12] "the kingdom of Satan," [Matthew, 12. 26] and "the principality of Beelzebub over demons," [Ibid., 9. 34] that is to say, over phantasms that appear in the air: for which cause Satan is also called "the prince of the power of the air";[Ephesians, 2. 2] and, because he ruleth in the darkness of this world, "the prince of this world":[John, 16. 11] and in consequence hereunto, they who are under his dominion, in opposition to the faithful, who are the "children of the light," are called the "children of darkness." For seeing Beelzebub is prince of phantasms, inhabitants of his dominion of air and darkness, the children of darkness, and these demons, phantasms, or spirits of illusion, signify allegorically the same thing. This considered, the kingdom of darkness, as it is set forth in these and other places of the Scripture, is nothing else but a confederacy of deceivers that, to obtain dominion over men in this present world, endeavour, by dark and erroneous doctrines, to extinguish in them the light, both of nature and of the gospel; and so to disprepare them for the kingdom of God to come.

One more thought on this subject is -- even though a person is raised in an environment (Judeo/Christian, Hindu, Marxist or what ever) -- it is not a sure thing that they will accept the; morals, ideals, customs and world view of their birth society. If this were the case there could never have been a revolution in history.

Rejecting everything you've been taught is easy -- sticking to principles you believe in is difficult.

Speaking of lies ...

Original Sin is a matter of faith to you.

To me, it's nothing more than a myth passed on by mystics seeking control over humans.

Gee, MSCASEY, is it not written, "let no man therefore judge you in meat, the sabbath, or an holy day". In a vision wasn't there a sheet lowered from heaven with all kinds of animals and wasn't Peter told to eat?

I'm sure no one is upset because you are a vegatarian, it doesn't automatically make you the subject of this article to have one single thing in common with anarchists.

Either you believe in an imperfect man and a perfect God, or you believe in a perfect (or perfectable) man.

False dichotomy, sorry.

One can also believe in an imperfect/nonperfectable man and no God, as many people do, as well as other permutations besides just the two narrow choices you list.

Good post! As Dennis Prager would say, your biggest battle in life is not with society it is with yourself.

that problems are EXTERNALLY caused by "the system" so if we overthrow or change that system (or systems) we'll all just get along....

Good post, because its very true.

Who made you in charge of the world?

How high did you have to jump to reach that conclusion?

To me, it's nothing more than a myth passed on by mystics seeking control over humans.

A concept which is as much a matter of faith to you as orignial sin is to us. Each to his own faith, mine is the Christian God, yours the perfect, logical & ethicial human.

Speaking of lies ...

Truth is a matter involving reality, and the avoidance of truth is a lie.

I think there is a God -- A Creator -- because there is real-world evidence as to creation having happened; but that Creator must be greater -- beyond -- all concepts associated with infinity; meaning that God transcends infinity and that God transcends human understanding.

That leaves us with the choice: accepting mystical, mythological tales as "truth," or recognizing truths about God that are based in reality.

"The fact is that eating lot's of meat isn't a great idea for one's health."

Well, let me give you my personal experience...my mom was a life-long vegetarian. ate only recipes from A Diet for a Small Planet and only those grains and legumes that were organically grown.

At 68 years old, she got colon cancer, which became liver cancer.

My stepdad was also a life-long vegetarian, he died a horrible death of Parkinson's.

Also, I used to work at a Theosophical camp in the Sierras, everone who attended the seminars were vegetarians...I've never known a more sickly, sindly bunch of people!

Before the fall no one ate meat. God gave man and the animals food without meat. Animals will not kill or be killed in heaven.

Theologically, this makes no sense. Why on Earth would God have made each species of animal to thrive on a different kind of diet, and then forced them all to eat like herbivores?
