You need a whole lotta cheese to go with this whine.

The D.C. Chapter's FReep at Olsson's that is credited with tipping the balance was reported via videostream and still photos on the front page of the website of The Washington Post seven straight days before Gore announced his decision not to run again for President, plus two days after.

Evidently, that FReep had an impact far beyond the patrons at Olsson's that day.

EAGLES UP !!!

But Gore’s decision did not sit well with some Democrats who remain outraged over Bush’s hardball strategies in Florida, including the disenfranchisement of thousands of African-American voters.

And the race baiting continues... no mention of the disenfranchisement of the military votes, or the disenfranchisement of the counties NOT cherry picked for recounts... oh I could go on and on...

Much credit goes to the outstanding activism conducted by the patriots holding the front lines- the merry band of men and women from the DC Chapter of Free Republic.

Be forewarned: Surely the King will place a bounty on the heads of each of the minutemen and respectful ladies summoned to battle.

Outstanding and exemplary conduct my friend ! Eagles Up !

Did we leave out one little itsy bitsy detail in this story? Like taking millions of dollars from the communist Chinese in 1996! For that Gore should not have even been allowed to run in 2000.

It can be easily said that Clinton and Gore took Dick Morris's advice even farther than Dick even imagined. If Clinton and Gore had not raised millions from the Chinese there is no way such a despicable duo could have ever won in 96. Plus if Clinton Gore had not totally controlled the Justice Department they both could and should be in jail!

Sheesh!!

...some center-left pundits (???!) such as...Dionne noted that when Daschle made a legitimate complaint that “shrill” attacks from Limbaugh had contributed to physical threats against Democrats and their families, mainstream media commentators rallied to Limbaugh’s defense.

Who, brokaw/rather/jennings? I must have missed those shows. When will they separate the editorials from the mainstream media?

In one rant, Washington Post columnist Michael Kelly wrote that Gore's critique of Bush's Iraq policy " was dishonest, cheap, low. It was hollow. ..." [SNIP] [Washington Post, Sept. 25, 2002] [For more details on the conservative denunciations of Gore, see xonsortiumnews.com’s "Politics of Preemption."]

Mainstream columnists also joined the assault,

I find this hilarious. Since when is the WashPost a conservative, non-mainstream outlet?

The writer of this piece is flat out delusional.

What can this 'counter-media' possibly do that the mainstream hasn't been doing for 30+ years?

Who can the 'counter-media' recruit that is not currently in the mainstream?

I'd say the answers are nothing and nobody.

In all actuality, it was the dems that told Al to take his ball and go home.

Kerry and Edwards also have criticized Bush's Iraq policy... but they are the chosen ones.

Lieberman, Gephardt and Dean will bow out before too long. The dems want someone “different”.

I think it was the, "You're out of Cheney's House, You're out of Cheney's House!" cheer as he was leaving Olsson's Books that turned the tide.

It just hurt his sensitive 'widdle' eardrums.

The Georgetown social set..yeah, right! They're too busy being angry that the president's in bed at 10 every night to act as his "shield".

These critics saw the national press corps divided roughly into two parts: a dedicated conservative media, and mainstream journalists who, out of fear or personal careerism, generally followed the lead of the conservative media. Gore had become the touchstone of this debate.

"Mainstream" New York Times! LOL!

psychosis [sy.KO.sis] (n).

“The inability to distinguish between what is real and what is imaginary. Psychosis is a term used to describe a severe mental illness. Psychotics are characterized by a variety of symptoms that most people consider abnormal. These include experiencing delusions, such as the notion that one is being persecuted or conspired against. Psychotics may see things which don't actually exist and hear Voices (i.e. God) when no one is around. They often exhibit compulsive, irrational, ritualized behavior, esp. when such behavior serves no purpose or is even harmful or disruptive to those around them. They show no concern for others but may exhibit total self-centered behavior. Includes sociopathy, schizophrenia.”

This is a lie -- many key Democratic blocs are simply too stupid to use a voting machine. What is true, but never spoken by the far-Left, is their attempt to throw-out all absentee votes from servicemen and -women, as contemptable an act as has ever occured in American history.

The Republicans have a well-oiled media machine that can spew mud on each and every “fresh face” – and the Democrats are still in no position to do anything about it.

Oh? Like spreading rumors about a candidate's 20-year-old DUI three days before an election?

"On Dec. 7, outside an Olsson’s book store in Arlington, Va., demonstrators – sporting photos of Rush Limbaugh and carrying signs from the Web site FreeRepublic.com – shouted at people in line waiting to have Al and Tipper Gore sign copies of Joined at the Heart, their book about families in America. The demonstrators shouted slogans through a bull horn, accusing Gore of trying to steal the election in Florida two years ago.

So Gore may well have surveyed the political landscape and concluded that there was no feasible route for him to reach the White House, that another run would simply leave him carrying the blame for another Bush “victory.”

Loveley!

Thank you Freepers.

Ladies and gentlemen I think we should have some form of recognition for these folks at the Book Store Freep!

Is it possible to have some king of Honors or Awards Page set up and maybe some medals made up for all who participated? I will gladly contribute to costs and I am sure we can get many volunteers to contribute!

Our view for years has been that Americans concerned about the growing right-wing dominance of the national news media must invest in a “counter-media” that will not treat the Bush family like royalty and will give American voters important information on other topics.

It is so typical of a socialist to fail to recognize that it's the MARKET for news that has changed, not the news delivering organizations. What was Salon if not an idiotic investment and an attempt to force the market?

There is a new reality, folks, a new dynamic created by the eight years of Clinton lies and the corresponding loss of CREDIBILITY on the part of the left leaning media.

The dems don't realize it, and it's just beginning to dawn on the media moguls. Ain't life grand!

I don't understand why anyone CARES what Gore thinks. The press doesn't print innumerable stories by other failed presidential candidates, and they don't print vanity pieces by ex-vice presidents (Yeah, I'll wait for the headline "Quayle supports War").

Why do they think we care what Gore is up to?

oh, dear God...
The way-the-hell-too-far-to-the-left tinfoil-hat-wearing weasels are tying to negate the growing regognition among the American People that the "mainstream" media are dominated by not-quite-so-way-the-hell-too-far-to-the-left pimps for the DNC by labelling the iota of difference away from leftist extremism that said media might (sometimes, mayyyyybe) display as "a massive swing to the right"???
I would be busting a gut laughing, if this issue wasn't so damned serious.
This ploy might work.
Remember the "Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy"?
Wasn't it Goebbels who formulated it? "Repeat a lie often enough, loudly enough, and it becomes the truth."

Beyond the media sarcasm, right-wing activists hounded Gore when he appeared in public, including demonstrating against his book signings.

He couldn't run for president because some folks exercised their free speech rights. Ha!

The Left just can't stand it when conservatives take to the streets. That's their territory, but we've co-opted it with so much more class, humor, originality and verve.
