[history]
Despite being new to the country, black immigrants have significantly higher household incomes and a lower unemployment rate than US-born blacks, according to a new study likely to intensify debate about the nature of racial discrimination in the United States.

Notice how they skip the obvious -- liberal Dem social policies. I blame Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the Clintons, most of the Dem party and the liberal elite.

Of course black immigrants do better - they actually appreciate this country and what it has to offer, far more so than those who follow the likes of Jesse Jackson et al...

Perhaps they have different attitudes. About themselves and the opportunities that are available to them.

The ONLY WAY for black Americans to break free is to escape enslavement on the evil, dishonest, and manipulative democrat plantation. There is absolutely NO OTHER WAY!

the median household annual income for African immigrants was $40,300, compared with $52,000 for whites and $64,200 for Asians, Hmmm! I guess we can infer from this that the Asian power structure in this country has been discriminating against whites, and even more so against African immigrants. < /sarcasm>
To: Gothmog
The explanation is simple. The longer a minority is exposed to and associated with the Democtratic Party, the weaker and more dependant the minority becomes. Give the Democrats time. It may take a few generatons, but they'll eventually hamstring and enslave the children of today's vigorous and free immigrants from the Caribbean and Africa.
To: Gothmog
It is because they have bougtht into the victimhood mentality and actually believe the crap that the Rat party feeds them. Immigrants have not been indoctrinated and just don't know any better. They haven't discovered the joys of generational welfare moms and out of wedlock births and ghetto living under the Rats that care nothing about them.

Imagine that! People BRAND NEW to this country, with no ancestry going back 150-400 years have a HIGHER income level and (Here's the key to higher income)
HIGHER EDUCATIONAL LEVEL than those whose families have been here for hundreds of years.
I guess it pays off -- working instead of playing the victim --.

Whenever I read articles like this I always remember the comedy skit from "In Living Color" about a Jamaican family where everyone has about ten jobs.
In one particular skit, a proud Jamaican mother is showing her infant son to a Jamaican man and the man asks "what kind of work does he do?".

Maybe it's because the African American showed up for the job interview wearing a bandana, a 'Malcom X' t-shirt, $200 Nike's, baggy low-rise pants, twelve gold chains hanging around his neck and a chip on his shoulder.
To: Gothmog
Given the education level of African immigrants, the question shouldn't be why aren't they doing better than blacks, but why are they not doing as well as whites?''' Always look for the dark lining! Did they ever consider that ALL immigrant groups do worse than natives at the start? It's natural: they don't speak the language fluently, they don't have the same circles of contacts, many are not citizens and therefore can't hold various government jobs.
It's all part of the process of assimilation. Would anyone, except for these pointy headed idiots, think that an immigrant group would arrive in America and starting from Day One be on an equal economic footing with people whose families have been here for hundreds of years?

a. darker skin, and
b. less command of english, on average.
I remember becoming acquainted with a local store owner originally from Nigeria a few years ago. He constantly marveled at the opportunity available in the US.
He also felt that US born blacks had an aversion to work, and never could make sense of US racial politics.

That's all true enough. But, the immigrants who come here from the Carribean and Afirca represent those with the most drive to succeed and willingness to take risks. They know why they're coming and what they want. Often, they are deeply religious; almost always the are hard-working, and, sadly, often better educated with a high school education at home than American blacks who have graduated from 4 year colleges in 'African Studies' or other make-work majors.
I have known a number of blacks who immigrated from the Islands and some from Africa. Every single one of them is hard-working, cheerful in the face of difficulty, and determined to do the best the can for themselves and their families. They ask only a chance, not a handout. The learn quickly, speak well and live the American dream.
Who could ask for more in new citizens? I'll take them anytime.

Asa constant visitor of the Bahamas, I have taken notice years ago of the differences in work ethic and attitude between the Bahamians and African Americans. I have felt for years that affirmative action has made African Americans that were not successful on their own even less likely to achieve. It has given them an excuse to not perform, to blame , and to look for the lazy way out. Bahamians don't have that luxury, nor do they consider themselves second class citizens to be look down upon. African Americans , for decades , have been told by the left that they are second class , and therefore need asssistance to achieve. Think about that message. Affirmative action has given rise to arrogance, un-cooperation, and a softness in the african american community that will take generations to harden up.

Most of the ones I've known weren't yet citizens or were very apolitical. Some were quietly Republican -- it's not easy in black areas to admit being conservative or Republican, you know. And, honestly, over the years, the party has not made it easy or been very welcoming.

Bad News. I live in the DC area (a lot of immigrants) and am friends/acquaintance with several blacks from Africa and they lean Dem and vote Dem. We talk about it, but I've had no luck at changing their minds. They live a Republican life (responsible, conservative) but vote lib. This is one of the major problems we face with immigration today. People come to this country because they know it is great, but they don't understand WHY it's great. When given the right to vote, they generally vote for people (Dems) that will undo what makes this country great (freedom, individual rights).
To: CatoRenasci
post # 17: Excellent observations, I have observed the same thing.
Educated West Indians and Africans also despise American black "culture" which they regard as demeaning to women, hateful, vile, and disrespectful to God. Many are devout Roman Catholics.
These hard working (and extremely black) immigrant parents go particularly nuts and explode when their kids bring home anything having to with the gansta and rap scene.

We have a "multi-cultural" staff at our laboratory, which includes both blacks from Africa and African Americans. In general, the Africans are appalled at the behavior and attitudes of some of the American blacks. The Africans avoid them like the plague, again, in general.
The Africans speak (although accented) nearly perfect English and well...you know the rest.
One of our African born chemists told me he was all but threatened at a previous job by colleagues who told him he was working too hard and making the "rest of us" look bad.

Opponents of affirmative action programs may see the study as proof that racial bias does not hold back all blacks. But the author of the study, SUNY-Albany sociologist John Logan, said the income and employment gaps may say more about the high motivation level of immigrants, who tend to work longer hours, pool their resources, and save for the future.
These are presented as if they were mutually exclusive alternatives, but very obviously they are not. If high motivation--as measured in long hours of work, cooperative living and deferred gratification--yields rewards for Africans, then the same level of motivation would evidently pay off for other people of color, even in the face of racial bias. Wonder why the folks at SUNY can't see that?
To: rabidralph
With all this being true, why aren't they voting Republican, or, at least, publicly associating themselves with the party? Wonder if it could be because we have idiots in our party like Lott and Tancredo that imply that they are not wanted in the country much less the party.

Careful, now. This study could also be used to "prove" that slavery was so detrimental to blacks that they haven't recovered YET. It might take a while but just wait, that argument will be forthcoming.

Not all educations are equal.
Each of these groups has different skills and motivations.

My father wouldn't hire blacks on his ranch. As he said to me, many resented him because he was white and thought of him as a plantation owner. Then he met my mom and she brought just about every man from the West Indies to work for him because other than Mexicans, the black West Indians worked hard.
Also, the West Indies are very mixed. Black West Indians are used to working with white people from all over. Trinidad and Tobago is very intergrated as many other West Indian countries. You can be white and be West Indian. You can be like my mom half African and Spanish. My grandmother was dougla (half African and half East Indian). My mother is half African and Spanish(from Spain). Independence was peaceful, not a bloody revolution. Even while it was a British colony, people mixed up, people were allowed to legally marry, and do business.
My mother and I were just talking yesterday about how hard she worked coming to this country. Many West Indians DO work hard. Look at Roy Innis of CORE. When someone asks me how many jobs do I have, and I had three at one point, they'd say you must be West Indian.
This article is not telling me anything I already don't know from having a West Indian mother, and a best friend who is African. I tell people there are NO EXCUSES. If Miguel Estrada can come here not knowing english then what's everyone else's excuse? You can't use racism anymore since there's no more Jim Crow, etc. I got along very well with the white people and hispanic people at my former job because I worked my butt off. I hauled a$$ and I could put anyone to shame. My manager was from the Dominican Republic and she finally asked me what my race was. I told her about my immigrant upbringing, and her response was " oh I knew you weren't black. I knew it. " She said the only black Americans that work hard are the OLDER people who come for work. How is that?
There is so much I can say, but I don't want to come off as bashing black Americans. Just that in today's day and age, I see a lot of people making excuses.

Thanks for your input, while watching TV in college years ago, Jesse Jackson was shown on TV making the usual noises. One of my black friends in college (a compsci student and successful businessman now) quipped -- "I must be French." Ha ha ha. We had a good laugh and another beer.

Asians at $64,000
Whites at $52,000
Black immigrants at $40,000
US blacks at 33,000
Maybe, just maybe, instead of "racism" as the reason for this heirarchy (with a minority at the top), this is really the result of cultural differences. Asians are stereotyped as hard-working, whites are the "control group", black immigrants are motivated workers but are starting from zero, and US blacks are infamous for their disdain for "acting white" (aka working hard in school, at work, and keeping the nuclear family intact).
