I live five miles south of a Texas State Park and five miles North of a US National Park. And next door to a county park that is two blocks south of a proposed city park. 1.5 miles south of me, the National Conservancey donated 3500 acres to the state for a Conservation Refuge. We are only three miles from a National Estuary. Come here and I will show you first hand. There is nothing like seeing to believe!

I believe that it sounds like you live in a pretty neat area. Or is being surrounded by parks a symbol of something evil?

I am not convinced that "all the buildable land" is getting locked up by eco-freaks.

I guess it depends on where you live. I consider "buildable land" to be that which has sufficient water, reasonable means of sewage disposal (no swamps, in other words), and viable means of making a living near enough.

Here, in the People's Republic of Washington, Seattlite-idiots have voted in "Growth Management" which makes it tough for folks out here in the boondocks to actually do much with their land.

I guess I just distrust those who think they know "what's best for everyone."
