Greenpeace blockade in Rotterdam (Greenpeace blocks US military transport harbor Rotterdam)
Radio Netherlands ^ | Februari 20 2003

Posted on 02/20/2003 3:44:40 AM PST by knighthawk

The environmental organisation Greenpeace is trying to stop a ship carrying US military equipment from sailing from the port of Rotterdam. The organisation has deployed its ship Rainbow Warrior-2 and four smaller vessels. Activists are trying to tie themselves to the ship's hawsers. Police have arrested at least six people.

The equipment on board the ship is destined for the Gulf region. The blockade is intended to reflect to Greenpeace's roots in the peace movement. In a statement, the organisation says that a war would have devastating consequences for both people and the environment.

Just ignore them and sail on, whether they are in the way, or not...

Hmmm.. Doesn't this Greenpeace challenge cry out for the French?! They could relive the glory of France's greatest military achievement in almost 200 years!

I hope they can swim with chains on, because I consider that an act of war. I suppose we'll have to play "nice", though, and call in a tug to haul their backsides out of there.

When they tried that nonsense with the French they simply fired upon and sank "Rainbow Warrior I".

I wonder how the left would feel if we took France's cue on this issue.

And staying in the way of our military will have devastating consequences on their physical well-being...

The ship should be seized and converted to something useful.

As for firing on it, we can't very well do that in the Netherlands--they'd make our people stay for some kind of court proceeding, I'm sure.

But it will be in international waters one of these days...

At what point can you act with force against such impediments? These are U.S. military vessels. I know they'd love the altercation for political reasons, but perhaps a stay in the U.S. navy brig might alter their perception.

Apparently this is a merchant marine vessel, not a military one.

From the Rotterdams Dabglad:
The ship from the Nile Dutch Africa line, flying under the Cypriot flag was hired by the American government. The police took strong actions and arrested 7 of 25 protesters. Two rubber boats and a canoe were also taken.

That is WONDERFUL news.

Now if we can rid the country of the rest of the Fifth Columnists.

If we shot one every morning, the rest of them would get in line real quick.

If the GreenPeacers really want to prevent enviromental disaster, they should chain themselves to Iraqi oil wells or derricks. Their hero Saddamn would'nt dare ignite "project scorched earth" then. Or would he?

Do what our police did in Portsmouth. Board and arrest the blighters.

Some of the cops I've seen in Amsterdam had a "take no prisoners" attitude - unleash them.

I agree America needs to realize that these liberals hate America and they(liberals) need to all be brought up on charges of high treason. We are already at war my friends and the enemy is the liberal who wants to destroy our great country. It is time to fight back in every areana.

If they are using zodiac boats we should have the guy that is the best shot on the boat to punch a hole in it. Of coarse Should a captain of a ship allow a small dingy to get close to his ship ie Uss cole?

Good point. Greenpeace is an American domestic terrorist group associated with the Earth Liberation Front. How could anyone be sure they're not out to attack for the sake of their mother of molten rock? If Islam can woprship a moon God, and these freaks worship an earth Goddess, why trust either group with American lives?

For all the abuse the French have taken recently, they certainly knew how to handle a pesky Greenpeace ship.

Remember the Rainbow Warrior?

I seem to remember six blasts as the international maritime signal for an impending collision (from my teenage USN days).

The two horn blasts are from the Highway rules, you give your turn signal two blinks, and then the heck with 'em, you're coming over.

a sub? no, too good to deal with them. a destroyer i think would be better suited. a few harpoon missiles will make short work of those boats.

besides, we want them to see it coming, right?

I have to admit, the French earned a soft spot in my heart forever with that action. I mean, can you imagine ANYONE daring to do such a thing today?

If anyone tried, they'd be hauled off to the Hague as a "war criminal."
