Flash 21 News in Japanese today states that US Secretary of State Powell has sent an urgent message of THANKS to both Prime Minister Koizumi and Foreign Minister Kawaguchi of Japan for Japan's statement on 20 February 2003 in STRONG support of the United States on the Iraq issue, vowing to back up the United States if force is eventually required to disarm Saddam Hussein per United Nations disarmament resolutions that have already been passed.

Powell is heading to Japan very shortly and will also relay the appreciation of the American people.

Freepers, how about sending a quick e-mail, or fax, or phone call in, to the EMBASSY OF JAPAN TO THE UNITED STATES right now, thanking their government for being different than the French or the Germans, and for standing with us and with history in the "Coalition of the Willing"?

Below is the contact information for the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. Why not also "cc" some of the mainline daily newspapers in Japan to also show them US citizens' support of our friends? (Comments in simple English, short sentences would be the best!)

Thanks. If someone wanted to romanize in Japanese (you would not need Japanese fonts) for their text to the Embassy (and especially when copying the Japanese newspapers who will get this in Tokyo), then they could say the following (and feel free to cut and paste here):

"Nippon no taibei tachiba ni tsuite, honjitsu wa makoto ni arigato gozaimashita. Nippon seifu wa Amerika nado no kuniguni no tai Iraku seisaku wo zenmenteki ni shiji suru koto ni yotte, sekai no heiwa no hoshou wo kakujitsu ni jitsugen dekiru to omoimasu. Arigato gozaimashita. --Beikoku no shimin no ichi nin yori"

Translation: ['Regarding the position of Japan in support of the United States today, thank you very much. My feeling is, the Government of Japan, having fully supported America and other countries on their position towards Iraq, can (in this way) achieve a guarantee of peace in the world. Again, thank you very much. --From an American citizen"]

You sound more reactionary than I.
I checked out http://users.erols.com/eojjicc/ and there
was nothing there. Such an unprofessional site is fair
enough warning for me to bring it up.

Maybe it was a bogus post to gather email addresses from
unwitting people like you?

So you are pledge absolutely that it's a valid site?

Thank you. You definitely e mailed to legitimate e-addresses, including the Embassy of Japan. That e mail address (above) is even listed on the US State Department's website for Foreign Embassies in D.C. Thanks again. and please spread the word.

I can validate is that AmericanInTokyo has earned my trust (and I believe that of the other moderators).

And according to the State Department, that is the email address:

http://www.state.gov/s/cpr/rls/dpl/2001/3008.htm

Thank you for your prudence, but he gave good information here, so I am going to take down your posts so they don't confuse or alarm people. Thanks, AM

Any time, QA. I will see if any of this ends up in Yomiuri, Mainichi or Asahi. They are sensitive to anything American 'readers' say, and they would be probably quite willing to let their Japanese readership know that Americans in the states were e mailing the Japanese Embassy saying 'Thanks' today on this issue.

I cleaned it up. AmericanInTokyo, I am glad that nanomid questioned the information. A lot of people pull stunts like you would not believe, and they don't get away with it because of the diligence and questioning attitude of people. If it turns out to be legit, things can be easily fixed, like here. Thanks, AM
