Hiding in Plain Sight (Al Arian at the White House)
Newsweek ^ | March 3rd, 2003 | Michael Isikoff

Posted on 02/23/2003 8:53:24 AM PST by Sabertooth

For George W. Bush, it was just another campaign stop. But for Sami Al-Arian, a University of South Florida engineering professor, it was a golden opportunity. When Bush appeared at Tampa’s Strawberry Festival in March 2000, Al-Arian sidled up to the candidate and had his picture taken.

< -snip- >

Al-Arian’s politics took on a decidedly darker cast last week when federal agents arrested him at his home in south Florida and charged him with being a top leader of one of the world’s most violent terrorist organizations: Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

< -snip- >

Al-Arian certainly didn’t act like a sponsor of suicide bombings. Far from keeping to the shadows, he repeatedly lobbied Congress on civil-liberties issues, made thousands of dollars in campaign contributions to influential members of Congress and renounced violence during appearances on TV talk shows. In June 2001 Al-Arian was invited to a White House briefing for 150 Muslim American activists, at which political director Karl Rove talked about the Bush administration’s "outreach" efforts. A law-enforcement official told NEWSWEEK the Secret Service had flagged Al-Arian as a potential terrorist prior to the event. But White House aides, apparently reluctant to create an incident, let him through anyway. Such access had its advantages. "He always told me the charges were garbage," said Khaled Saffuri, chairman of the Islamic Institute. "When you hear he’s going to the White House, you figure what he’s saying must be true." In fact, federal prosecutors charged last week, Al-Arian carried out his secret terrorist agenda "under the guise of promoting and protecting Arab rights"—making his public profile a critical part of his MO. "It was the perfect cover," said Steven Emerson, a terrorism analyst who has followed Al-Arian for years.

So, who are the unnamed White House aides who overruled the Seret Service and allowed Sami Al Arian into the White House?

Notice that Khaled Saffuri, co-founder with Grover Norquist of the Islamic Institute, which has received donations from the Holy Land Foundation, the Safa Trust, and Qatar, is backpedalling mightily from this scandal.

American polititians are gaining the same despicable notoriety of their counterparts in the rest of the world by being able to be bought, sold, traded and manipulated like street whores.

Bush (and his advisors) need to get a grip - very quickly on who they distance and who they welcome into their bosoms (for the sake of political correctness and votes).

Bush Praises Islam For It's Morality

Twenty-Year Plan for USA: Islam Targets America

PLEASE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO ITEM #8.

The True Furqan can be located on HERE or HERE

The following is Dr. Shorrosh's analysis of Islamic invasion of America, the agenda of Islamists and visible methods to take over America by the year 2020! Will Americans continue to sleep through this invasion as they did when we were attacked on 9/11?

1. Terminate America's freedom of speech by replacing it with hate crime bills state-wide and nation-wide.

2. Wage a war of words using black leaders like Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Jesse Jackson and other visible religious personalities to promote Islam as the original African-American's religion while Christianity is for the whites! Strange enough, no one tells the African-Americans that it was the Arab Muslims who captured them and sold them as slaves, neither the fact that in Arabic the word for black and slave is the same, "Abed."

3. Engage the American public in dialogues, discussions, debates in colleges, universities, public libraries, radio, TV, churches and mosques on the virtues of Islam. Proclaim how it is historically another religion like Judaism and Christianity with the same monotheistic faith.

4. Nominate Muslim sympathizers to political office for favorable legislation to Islam and support potential sympathizers by block voting.

5. Take control of as much of Hollywood, the press, TV, radio and the internet by buying the corporations or a controlling stock.

6. Yield to the fear of imminent shut-off of the lifeblood of America - the black gold. America's economy depends on oil,1000 products are derived from oil), so does its personal and industrial transportation and manufacturing -41% comes from the Middle East.

7. Yell, "foul, out-of-context, personal interpretation, hate crime, Zionist, un-American, inaccurate interpretation of the Quran" time Islam is criticized or the Quran is analyzed in the public arena.

8. Encourage Muslims to penetrate the White House, specifically with Islamists who can articulate a marvelous and peaceful picture of Islam. Acquire government positions, get membership in local school boards. Train Muslims as medical doctors to dominate the medical field, research and pharmaceutical companies. Take over the computer industry. Establish Middle Eastern restaurants throughout the U.S. to connect planners of Islamization in a discreet way.

Ever notice how numerous Muslim doctors in America are, when their countries need them more desperately than America?

9. Accelerate Islamic demographic growth via:

a. Massive immigration (100,000 annually since 1961)

b. No birth control whatsoever - every baby of Muslim parents is automatically a Muslim and cannot choose another religion later.

c. Muslim men must marry American women and Islamize them (10,000 annually). Then divorce them and remarry every five years - since one cannot have the Muslim legal permission to marry four at one time. This is a legal solution in America.

d. Convert angry, alienated black inmates and turn them into militants (so far 2000 released inmates have joined Al Qaida world-wide). Only a few have been captured in Afghanistan and on American soil. So far - sleeping cells!

10. Reading, writing, arithmetic and research through the American educational system, mosques and student centers (now 1500) should be sprinkled with dislike of Jews, evangelical Christians and democracy. There are 300 exclusively Muslim schools with loyalty to the Quran, not the U.S. Constitution.

11. Provide very sizeable monetary Muslim grants to colleges and universities in America to establish "Centers for Islamic studies" with Muslim directors to promote Islam in higher education institutions.

12. Let the entire world know through propaganda, speeches, seminars, local and national media that terrorists have hijacked Islam, not the truth, which is Islam hijacked the terrorists. Furthermore in January of 2002, Saudi Arabia's Embassy in Washington mailed 4500 packets of the Quran, videos, promoting Islam to America's high schools--free. They would never allow us to reciprocate.

13. Appeal to the historically compassionate and sensitive Americans for sympathy and tolerance towards the Muslims in America who are portrayed as mainly immigrants from oppressed countries.

14. Nullify America's sense of security by manipulating the intelligence community with misinformation. Periodically terrorize Americans of impending attacks on bridges, tunnels, water supplies, airports, apartment buildings and malls. (We have experienced this too often since 9-11.) 15. Form riots and demonstrations in the prison system demanding Islamic Sharia as the way of life, not American's justice system.

16. Open numerous charities throughout the U.S. but use the funds to support Islamic terrorism with American dollars.

17. Raise interest in Islam on America's campuses by insisting that freshman take at least one course on Islam. Be sure that the writer is a bonafide American, Christian, scholarly and able to cover up the violence in the Quran and express the peaceful, spiritual and religious aspect only.

18. Unify the numerous Muslim lobbies in Washington, mosques, Islamic student centers, educational organizations, magazines and papers by internet and an annual convention to coordinate plans, propagate the faith and engender news in the media of their visibility.

19. Send intimidating messages and messengers to the outspoken individuals who are critical of Islam and seek to eliminate them by hook or crook.

20. Applaud Muslims as loyal citizens of the US by spotlighting their voting record as the highest percentage of all minority and ethic groups in America.

Any College Professor making that kind of contribution to Congress members might be in need of a second look. It's not like he was involved in research at a prestigious college....

Instead those that warned were smeared. Now the left has this story and it's not going to end if there is no response from the WH on what the heck is going on.

AMC Chairman to Discuss Muslim Community’s Concerns with the FBI Chief

For Immediate Release

WASHINGTON, DC, February 13, 2003: The FBI Director has invited
leaders of major Muslim and Arab organizations to address the issues
“regarding the FBI response to terrorist threats and backlash hate crimes”
against the members of the American Muslim community. AMC Chairman of the
Board Dr. Yahya Mossa Basha has been invited to the meeting.

“American Muslims are fearful of backlash, discrimination, and hate
crimes against them and against other American minorities, including new
immigrants and people with dark complexion as the levels of threats are
raised,” said Dr. Yahya Basha, Chairman of the Board of Directors. The
current difficult climate is giving rise to hate crimes, abuse, and
mistreatment of the community members, he added.

The American Muslim Council is nation’s oldest Muslim political
organization. It was established in 1990 to promote Muslim participation in
mainstream political arena. It also works to ensure Muslims’ involvement
in public dialogue on our nation’s socio-cultural and religious and
political issues.

Unfortunately, many of the leaders present hadn't unambiguously rejected it. To the president's left sat Dr. Yahya Basha, president of the American Muslim Council, an organization whose leaders have repeatedly called Hamas "freedom fighters." Also in attendance was Salam Al-Marayati, executive director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, who on the afternoon of September 11 told a Los Angeles public radio audience that "we should put the State of Israel on the suspect list." And sitting right next to President Bush was Muzammil Siddiqi, president of the Islamic Society of North America, who last fall told a Washington crowd chanting pro-Hezbollah slogans, "America has to learn if you remain on the side of injustice, the wrath of God will come." Days later, after a conservative activist confronted Karl Rove with dossiers about some of Bush's new friends, Rove replied, according to the activist, "I wish I had known before the event took place."

If the elite media attempts to make a big deal out of this, they will again confirm that they are hypocritical Democrat toadies.

They didn't seem to care a whit who Clinton had in the WH for for what reasons. Their newly discovered moral compass rings very hollow.

which is why this needs and needed weeks ago to be dealt with. Instead there is silence.......

.....Grover Norquist is the problem and has been for a long long time....
...

If the administration was caught unaware, it may be because they placed their trust in one of the right's most influential activists: Grover Norquist. As president of Americans for Tax Reform, Norquist is best known for his tireless crusades against big government. But one of Norquist's lesser-known projects over the last few years has been bringing American Muslims into the Republican Party. And, as he usually does, Norquist has succeeded. According to several sources, Norquist helped orchestrate various post-September 11 events that brought together Muslim leaders and administration officials. "He worked with Muslim leaders to engineer [Bush]'s prominent visit to the Mosque," says the Arab-American pollster John Zogby, referring to the president's September 17 trip to the Islamic Center of Washington. Says Zogby, who counts Norquist among his clients, "Absolutely, he's central to the White House outreach." Indeed, when Jewish activists and terrorism experts complained about the Muslim invitees to Adam Goldman, who works in the White House public liaison's office, Goldman replied that Norquist had vouched for them. (Goldman denies this, but two separate sources say they heard him say it.) "Just like [administration officials] ask my advice on inviting religious figures to the White House," says Paul Weyrich, another top conservative activist, "they rely on Grover's help [with Muslims]."

Norquist denies being involved in "micromanaging the specifics" of White House meetings, but admits "I have been a long time advocate of outreach to the Muslim community." In fact, the record suggests that he has spent quite a lot of time promoting people openly sympathetic to Islamist terrorists. And it's starting to cause him problems. Weyrich, echoing other movement conservatives, says he is "not pleased" with Norquist's activity. According to one intelligence official who recently left the government, a number of counterterrorism agents at the FBI and CIA are "pissed as hell about the situation [in the White House] and pissed as hell about Grover." They should be. While nobody suggests that Norquist himself is soft on terrorism, his lobbying has helped provide radical Islamic groups--and their causes--a degree of legitimacy and access they assuredly do not deserve.

You point to a lack of objectivity by the elite media and I think most here would agree with that...which raises the question why would anybody draw any conclusions from such a long chain of unnamed sources, as told by Newsweek.

That said, we do need some answers from the WH on how this guy could be a WH invite.

1). Get the USA and the western governments to side with islamists in Bosnia and Kosovo and kill Serbian Christians by the thousands! And make sure that they ignore the 800,000 Serbian refugees who fled for their lives to Serbia proper.

2). Get the people of the USA to believe lies about "massacres" of poor innocent muslims in Bosnia and Kosovo... when, in fact, the people killed were soldiers, killed in "fair fight" battles with the legitimate authorities who trying to save their LEGITIMATE govt. from terrorists and drug running thugs!!!!

3). Get the press to AVOID at all costs.... asking questions about whatever happened to ALL those 2000 missing Christian Serbs in Kosovo and who destroyed 120 Serbian Orthodox Christian...that just since the UN took over in 1999.

Yes he was and I beleive the Bush White House was going to refuse him access to a meeting there, then it was found out that he was one of Bonior's staffers and was allowed through.

I could see Baghdad Bonior screeching to his NYT and WashCompost comrades, "racial profiling" if he was refused access to the meeting.

*BZZZZZZ* WRONG!

Not a word, not a peep. Zip, nada, zilch.

Seems like the Iraq situation ranked just a tad higher on the national radar screen then this supposed CRISIS, as some on this board have been spamming it to be.

Must gall them that even the DNC ignored them.

As Al-Arian points out, a lot of Muslims probably voted for Bush because for some reason they thought he would be more favorable to their cause. It was not Bush's job to point out that they were wrong. Now that his real position on Israel et al. has been revealed, and now that we are at war with Islamic terrorism, it's unlikely that he will get many votes from Arab terrorists next time around. But he may still get a few votes from Muslim conservatives more worried about abortion, taxes, and business than Israel, and there's no point in driving those away too.

It's also Bush's job to try to keep the broad Muslim community in the U.S. pacified and happy, while at the same time nabbing the real terrorists. This isn't an easy balancing act. It's not unlikely that there are other terrrorists among the major American spokesmen, and it will still be Bush's job to deal with them until things are sorted out.

Also, keep in mind that things change over time. Welcoming Muslims to the White House back then isn't quite the same as welcoming them now. It's still being done, but the purposes are somewhat different and different rules are being followed.

The only real basis for faulting the White House on this particular visit would be if a terrorist was allowed in with a weapon. That didn't happen.

That will be the White House "offical line " ..some unnamed schmook did it ...do not believe it.

Here's a candidate: Suhail Khan.

One day after Bush's inauguration, (Norquist) and Saffuri arranged for Muslim leaders to meet Newt Gingrich and Congressman Tom Davis, head of the National Republican Congressional Committee. Soon Saffuri began regularly appearing at the White House, accompanying imams and heads of Islamic organizations to discuss the faith-based initiative and concerns about law enforcement persecution of Muslims. Suhail Khan, an administration adviser who helps plan Muslim outreach, once served on the Islamic Institute's board. And at one of his regular Wednesday meetings, according to two witnesses, Norquist announced that he had lobbied to get Khan his White House post.
Franklin Foer - The New Republic

According to the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and London-based Arabic newspaper Al-Hayat, Osama bin Laden's deputy (or boss, depending upon the intelligence report), Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, visited the United States in early 1995 using a forged passport, and raised money for terrorist operations at various U.S. mosques, including the Santa Clara Mosque, a.k.a. Masjid Al-Noor, a.k.a. MCA (Muslim Community Association) of Santa Clara.

The late Mahboob Khan is identified by a 1999 "MCA Newsletter" as the man "whose constant efforts and guidance. . . establish[ed] the Islamic Center" of Santa Clara. A 1999 Islamic Horizons magazine obituary for Mahboob Khan quotes a former secretary general of the Islamic Society of North America as saying that Dr. Khan "was in the forefront in the struggle" of "the Santa Clara mosque." This includes the time period when Zawahiri was staying in Santa Clara and raising money at Khan's mosque.

Khan was the founder of American Muslims for Global Peace and Justice, the group spearheading the boycott of Starbucks in the United States. Incredibly, Khan's son, Suhail Khan, was the Bush White House's Muslim outreach official last year. He is also a current and founding board member of the Islamic Institute, which openly opposes the new FBI rules, lodging protests with Ashcroft.
Debbie Schlussel - World Net Daily

Suhail Khan was the Bush Administration's outreach official in 2001, at the behest of Grover Norquist. He is also a founding and current board member of Norquist's and Khaled Saffuri's Islamic institute, which has received thousands of dollars in donations from the Holy Land Foundation, a sponsor of hoimicide bombers and their families in Israel.

Coincidentally, I suppose, Sami Al Arian's indictment charges him with raising money for the same purpose.

Also coincidentally, I'm sure, are the links between Sami Al Arian and the Holy Land Foundation…

The brochure warns: "Don't talk to the FBI. The FBI is looking for information to use against you, your family and/or your community." It has been posted on the Internet since 1997 by the National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom (NCPPF).

< -snip- >

NCPPF President Sami Al-Arian, a professor at the University of South Florida, sent out an e-mail eight days before the Sept. 11 attacks criticizing President Bush for not dropping the use of secret evidence in terrorist cases. Small wonder: Al-Arian has been a major supporter of terrorist causes. The Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilley exposed some of Al-Arian's activity, and NBC's Dateline aired a video of the NCPPF leader stating, "Let us damn America. Let us damn Israel. Let us damn their allies until death."

Insight obtained a copy of a 1995 letter Al-Arian wrote to raise funds for suicide bombers of the Hamas terrorist group. An FBI translation, in Arabic, discusses a recent suicide bombing: "The movement's financial situation is very difficult, and it cannot fulfill its responsibilities toward the martyrs and prisoners. … The link with the brothers in Hamas is very good and making steady progress. … I call upon you to try to extend true support to the jihad effort in Palestine so that operations such as these can continue."

< -snip- >

The brochure sponsor isn't even Muslim. Rather, the NCPPF is a project of a New York-based outfit called the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organizations, founded by New Left activists in the 1960s. It says in its literature that it promotes "political statement, association and due process for immigrants and citizens alike." A closer look, say specialists, shows it to be a support operation for terrorism. The coalition's member organizations include:

< -snip- >

American Muslim Council and the American Muslim Foundation share the same Washington offices and attempt to enter into mainstream dialogue with Christians and Jews. In reality, the groups' key man, former executive director and current board member Abdurahman Alamoudi, publicly proclaimed in October 2000, "We are all supporters of Hamas. … I am also a supporter of Hezbollah."

Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which maintains an active media outreach program to promote its own brand of Islam and recently was cited for solicitation of funds for the Holy Land Foundation, officially cited as a Hamas front.

Muslim Public Affairs Council, a public-policy lobby allied with AMC and CAIR, wrote letters to the U.S. government on behalf of the Holy Land Foundation.

< -snip- >

Even as the Muslim fronts met with the FBI they were raising money for a group that U.S. officials call a major source of cash for Hamas suicide bombers. The AMC has been a tireless supporter of the Holy Land Foundation. So has the CAIR, whose home page prominently featured an icon called "How to Aid Victims of Terrorism." A click on the icon took the viewer straight to the online donation page of the Holy Land Foundation. That icon remained on the CAIR home page until Dec. 4, when federal agents raided HLF offices around the country and impounded its bank accounts. CAIR issued a statement denouncing the U.S. action, but curiously deleted the HLF fund-raising device from its home page at the same time. "The only specific accusation made against HLF has been that among the thousands of Palestinians who received its relief aid were the children of suicide bombers," claimed CAIR.
J. Michael Waller - Insight Magazine

The American Muslim Council, the Council on American Islamic Relations, and the Muslim Public Affairs Council, part of a web of Muslim organizations (like Al Arian's National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom) who are sympathizers and supporters of terrorism, have all been guests of the Bush White House. The American Muslim Council as recently as January, 2003.

Of course, the American Muslim Council has some friends here and there. On July 22nd, 2000, and the AMC's national convention in Washington D.C., an event was held called "Reception with Members of Congress," which included a number of high profile players in Washington…

The reception particularly honored Representatives Tom Davis (R-VA) and John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI), Grover Norquist (President, American for Tax Reform), and James Zogby (President, Arab American Institute). A number of Representatives , most of whom have already co-sponsored H.R. 2121, addressed the Muslim audience. Each Member of Congress spoke out against secret evidence, reaffirming their commitment to civil rights, defending justice. All urged the Muslim community to take on a more active role in the political process. Of those in attendance who had not yet co-sponsored the legislation, Congresswoman Connie Morella (R-MD), announced that she "plans to" support the Secret Evidence Repeal Act. In a dramatic demonstration of the impact of Muslim lobbying and the activities of that day, the House of Representatives voted that same evening to cut funding from the Federal Bureau of Prisons for the prisoners currently being held on secret evidence. Amendment 19, offered by Representative Tom Campbell (R-CA), deducted $173,480 from H.R. 4690, the Commerce Justice State and Judiciary Appropriations Act of Fiscal Year 2001, which appropriates funds for the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Prisons
American Muslim Council - 9th Annual National Convention Report

In yet another coincidence, Grover Norquist is a recipient of an award from Al Arian's NCPPF…

On April 5, 2001, the National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom, a far-left group headed by Al-Arian, gave Norquist an award for his work in opposing the use of secret evidence. Norquist told Insight last year that he was "proud" of the award, even though the Coalition was affiliated with the National Lawyer's Guild, a former Soviet-era front organization.
Kenneth R. Timmerman- Insight Magazine

In addition to outlining the secret evidence and material support cases, and the impact NCPPF has had on these, a written summary of the coalition’s past year also included information on an April 5 awards ceremony at which the "champions of the abolishment against secret evidence" were honored. Mazen Al-Najjar, Nasser Ahmed, Hany Kiareldeen, Anwar Haddam, Dr. Ali and Mohammad Karim, and Harpal Singh Cheema (in abstentia) received awards for enduring the pain of imprisonment while fighting against the use of secret evidence. Congressman David Bonior (D-MI) and former Congressman Tom Campbell (R-CA) were honored for their efforts in trying to repeal secret evidence. Many lawyers received plaques as well. Greg Nojeim of the ACLU, filmmaker Hazim Bitar, and Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform received awards for their assistance.
Kristin Szremski - Washington Report on Middle East Affairs

So, Norquist received a plaque from Sami Al Arian's NCPPF, for his assisstance in efforts to abolish the use of secret evidence in fighting terrorism. Is this guy a stooge, or what?

Interesting, too, that former California GOP Congressman Tom Campbell's name comes up again… and again, in defense of Al Arian just last year:

Dr. Judy Genshaft
President
Univesity of South Florida
Tampa, FL
January 21, 2002

Dear President Genshaft:

I am a Professor at Stanford Law School, and formerly, for nine years, a Member of the House of Representatives. The views expressed in this letter are my own alone, of course, and not necessarily those of either institution. During my time in Congress, I served, inter alia, on the International Relations Committee and the Judiciary Committee. In those capacities, I came to know of the practice of using secret evidence against non-citizens in keeping them in detention even when they were not a security risk to the United States, and even when they were not soon to be deported. I introduced legislation to stop this practice, and worked hard to achieve that end. In this effort, I came to know Professor Sami Al-Arian, whose brother-in-law had been subjected to this practice.

In the interest of full disclosure, I wish you to know that, after we came to know each other, Professor Al-Arian helped me raise funds for my campaign for U.S. Senate, an effort which, nevertheless, did not succeed.

< -snip- >

Throughout my acquaintance with Professor Al-Arian, he staunchly supported the principles of the United States Constitution. Indeed, it was for the sake of those principles that he and I both opposed the practice of keeping anyone in America in jail on the basis of evidence they were not allowed to see. Every federal court that has ruled on the practice has called it unconstitutional, yet no case has risen to the U.S. Supreme Court; hence, the practice continues.

< -snip- >

In taking part in this fight to uphold the most important principles of our republic and its Constitution, I never heard Professor Al-Arian utter a single word disloyal to the United States. Nor did I ever hear him say anything anti-Semitic, or racist, or religionist, against any group. He did express the wish that America's foreign policy in the Middle East would tilt less discernibly toward Israel. Whatever you or I might think of that view, it is one to which Professor Al-Arian is entitled, well within the scope of free debate in our country.

< -snip- >

The greatest strength we have, as Americans, and especially as academics, is our freedom to speak?including the freedom to speak unpopular views. This right is stressed most severe ly during periods of national emergency. It is precisely then that all who love our country and its freedoms must be most vigilant. What a tremendous victory it would be for those freedoms, for the reputation for fairness of your University, and for our country, if you could reconsider your decision regarding Professor Al-Arian! Such an action now would show the academy at its best: a willingness to reconsider, rather than an instinct to unite behind an initial decision that proved to be ill advised. I respectfully urge you to consider taking just such an action. And I thank you for the time you have given to my letter.

Respectfully,
Tom Campbell
Tom Campbell - Letter of Support for Sami al Arian

And Tom Campbell brings us full circle back to…

Suhail A. Khan

Suhail Khan was born in Boulder, Colorado and grew up in California.

His father, the late Dr. Mahboob Khan, and mother, Mrs. Malika Khan, emigrated to the United States from Madras, India in the mid-sixties. Suhail received his BA in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1991 and JD from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1995. Suhail served as an advisor and press secretary to U.S. Congressman Tom Campbell (R-CA) on Capitol Hill for five years, served in the White House Office of Public Liaison and currently serves as a Presidential appointee as Legal Counsel at the Department of Transportation.

It was predicted by some on this board that this story would be all over the Sunday morning talk-shows.

*BZZZZZZ* WRONG!

Correct, I was wrong.

OTH, Newsweek has it now. The Washington Post has had it for a couple of days. Drudge has the WP and Newsweek articles featured high as we sit here. This story isn't going away. I stand by that.

Must gall them that even the DNC ignored them.

Not at all. It doesn't even bother me that misguided people who think they're helping President Bush are trying to get this swept under the rug.

Unlike them, for me, this isn't about personality conflicts. That's why I wasn't suspended from posting Friday night.

Instead, I've been trying to find out and post as many facts and sourced links about this story as possible. The ad hominem is so tacky, don't you think?

Also, keep in mind that things change over time. Welcoming Muslims to the White House back then isn't quite the same as welcoming them now. It's still being done, but the purposes are somewhat different and different rules are being followed.

Think so?

AMC Attends White House Briefing on Controversial INS Policy

WASHINGTON, DC, Jan. 17, 2003:
Yesterday AMC Executive Director Eric Erfan Vickers and Board Secretary Dr. Nedzib Sacirbey attended, along with other Muslim and Arab American leaders, a White House briefing on the controversial INS policy that has caused to many tremendous personal hardships, and which has created mounting consternation in the Muslim and Arab American community.

The briefing was arranged by Ali H. Tulbah, the Associate Director of Cabinet Affairs, and AMC commends him for initiating this substantive dialogue with key officials in the White House Administration.

The American Muslim Council is not moderate, by any stretch of the imagination.

Thanks for the link and isn't it strange I mean Islam is so Un-American. They have all but silenced our Religious leaders here already. I find they have gotton to Franklin now too. But he is not going peacefully it seems.

...

In most countries where Islamic law dominates there is practically no freedom of religion (not to mention freedom of speech or the press). In most Islamic countries, including so-called moderate Islamic states such as Saudi Arabia, it is a crime to build a Christian church, Jewish synagogue, Hindu temple or any other non-Muslim house of worship. In contrast, there are about 3,000 mosques in the U.S., with new ones being built every week.

Muslims are free to worship Allah in the U.S., but Christians are not free to worship Jesus in most Muslim countries. There has not been a single church in Afghanistan since the exiled king, Mohammed Zahir Shah, destroyed the first and only one in the history of the country in 1973.

Franklin Graham

.....
Robertson and Falwell not a peep out of them now.
Hmmmmm..

Islam is trying to take over this country and that is a fact!

Thanks Saber for the good posts and links.

According to the Washing Post we know that:

"Al-Arian was one of 160 members of the American Muslim Council who were briefed on Bush's faith-based agenda and other issues by Rove and others in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is adjacent to the White House, on June 22, 2001. The visitors were in Washington for the group's annual convention, and the group organized a delegation that accepted an invitation to visit the White House.

"The Secret Service requires any potential visitor to the White House complex to submit a Social Security number and birth date to enable a security check.

"Several pro-Israel and conservative activists had warned administration officials not to meet with the American Muslim Council contingent because the group had courted controversy for years, knowledgeable sources said.

"Abduraham Alamoudi, a member of the organization also at the meeting with Rove, said at a White House demonstration in October 2000, "We are all supporters of Hamas," the popular name of the Islamic Resistance Movement, a main sponsor of suicide bombings in Israel.

"Rove, according to Al-Arian and other attendees, used the meeting to talk of White House efforts to embrace the Muslim community. Al-Arian said he sat in the front row.

"A White House official was unable to say who else spoke to the group. Records showed that Al-Arian was admitted to the White House at least once during the Clinton administration, the official said."

Even though as the article says that GW is committed to outreach to all religions and ethnic minorities, and will continue to do so, the White House knew about Al-Arian being investigated. In fact Al-Arian "told The Washington Post in an interview last year that being cleared into the White House gave him confidence that he was no longer suspected of being a terrorist supporter or sympathizer."

According to this same article "The meeting was controversial within the White House even before it took place. The group that included Al-Arian was scheduled to be briefed by Vice President Cheney, but Cheney canceled. That morning, the Jerusalem Post had run a front-page article headlined, "Cheney to host pro-terrorist Muslim group."

Let's see if GW disassociates himself from these people as swiftly as he did with Lott, not that I agreed with his position on Lott.

Bush (and his advisors) need to get a grip - very quickly on who they distance and who they welcome into their bosoms

It is you who needs to get a grip.

Al-Arian is under arrest as I type this.

Would you concede that is not taking him to his bosom?

We can only hope the President does the right thing here, and rolls some heads. For starters, Grover Norquist, Khaled Saffuri, Suhail Khan, and Ali Tulbah should be given the Secret Service bum's rush, permanently, from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

I actually think the sitution here is far more alarming than it was with Trent Lott, though I supported his ouster, and the President's handling of the matter.

Name one person who has defended Norquist.

Has anybody in a tizzy here noticed the date of the visit? Does anyone credit the Bush administration with Al-Arian's arrest?

President Bush has taken care of it, and it is not because TLBSHOW warned him he'd better.
