Sounds like there was another Dem defection. Only five more to go, and they can vote.

This is good news, but I'd rather here it from Frist. I worry he's not going to play rough enough with the Dems as he needs to.

Nelson from Florida... There's a ton of Hispanic votes up for grabs in Florida... Now their other Senator in Florida is questioning whether or not a filibuster is wise... Graham is considering a WH run and needs his own state to win...

This may be a tad optimistic, but it seems possible that the pubbies have done a nice job of looking meek just long enough for the rats to swear undying opposition to Estrada, and in general stake out an untenable position.

Now, to make them pay...

Graham has to decide do I thumb my nose at NARAL, or the Peurto Rican/Cuban/Mexican population in my own state, thereby SEVERELY hindering my Senate reelection chances.

Bill Nelson, not under any "higher office" ambitions for now (he's staring at a possible run against Jeb in '06) has apparently put his finger to the wind and made the right choice!

I hope Mary Landrieux doesn't cave so that she can be unelected by her own words. She promised in her campaign to support the Presidents judges and even Estrada specifically I think. The Democraps are really hurting themselves. It's like the Liberal Party here - they are in self-destruct mode and I like it!! The sooner the better.

It's very important to break the democrat's will at this stage in the game so they will basically roll over when a Supreme court nominee is brought up.

"I have stated over and over again...that I would object and fight against any filibuster on a judge, whether it is somebody I opposed or supported."

– Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.

"Senators who believe in fairness will not let a minority of the Senate deny [the nominee] his vote by the entire Senate."

– Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.

"The nominee deserves his day, and filibustering this nomination is keeping him from his day."

– Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.

Yet these three hypocrites support the filibuster of Estrada.

It won't be 24/7.

Too much security would be required; even die-hard Republicans aren't in favor of the Mr. Smith-goes-to-Washington approach.

However, some of the Democrats, like Graham and Blanche Lincoln, are saying they'll vote against Estrada, but they doubt the efficacy of a filibuster.

Frist should refuse discussion of any other issue, then hammer the Democrats for shutting down the government.

I don't think Graham can pull a Leiberman and run for both. If he tries to, I'm sure Jeb and the heavily Repub legislature will make sure the voters get "freedom of choice" by forcing Graham to run for ONE office.

I believe that it's more politically advantageous to kick back and watch the Democrats' obstructioneering collapse of its own surrender, rather than fall under hostile partisan warfare attacking by Republicans. Democrats can't sustain the filibuster; just give them the time that they need to crash and burn. (Another one apparently defected today.) They're experienced; Republicans don't need to be seen as overly partisan on this issue if it isn't necessary.

Nelson from Florida. Yes, he knows his Hispanic constituents will be furious. Now there's a huge Hispanic population in New York City. Some are thoughtful, intelligent Americans. Some will hear the name Miguel Estrada and know the Democrats did him in. So what will Hillary Clinton do?

This is a great idea. The Rats have been having a political theatre where they claim Estrada didn't fill out his job application. Then they go on and on about the economy.

A 24/7 approach would garner great interest and publicity. Just imagine what those Rat Senators will say and do 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Someone will have to tell them that C SPAn is being recorded and the stupid and banal things they say are going to return to them in the next election via film clipped TV infomercials! Also, we will make sure that the local TV in their state has genuine film clips of their meandering mendacities.

Those RATS under these circumstances can't win no matter what. If they prevail the President can claim disgust and make an interim appointment. If they fail, we will still have all those nice quotes to be used ad nauseum on them whenever we feel it necessary.

Better believe that when the Senate goes 24/7 they will fold. By the way, it does not make any difference what it costs (apparently some say just a "prime time filibuster" to same money). We need them tired, cranky and transparent!

She (Mary Landrieu) promised in her campaign to support the Presidents judges and even Estrada specifically I think.

Her words while she was campaigning were, "I supported Miguel Estrada." Now she claims that she's not breaking a campaign promise, that she was "neutral" as far as Estrada goes.

you know that her word "supported" was carefully thought out. Didn't want to slip and say "support" because the difference between those two words is "well, that depends on what the meaning of the word is, is"

past tense "supported" probably means she at the time didn't have any statements opposing him...
perhaps if he had been brought up for a vote, she would have voted yes. But everything is different now...
