I'm going to give Garrett the benefit of the doubt

That's my take on it too. Maybe Garrett had a bad day yesterday. I'd just as soon wait until I see a pattern before I accuse him of lying.

Sad that it seems to be the same ones over and over isn't it...

How about the rest of the paragraphs they took out? Fox News didn't even have the integrity to say that the original article was wrong. If you read the article from last night you are left with the wrong impression.

Fox News should have corrected it and said why it was corrected instead of making it seem like a new article.

If I were Sen Frist and the rest, I would never talk to Garrett again!

Not to get off topic too much, but did anyone see this by Rush:

Want Estrada? Squeeze Linda Daschle

Senators Bill Frist and Orrin Hatch and whoever else in the Republican side of the Senate wants to do it, simply needs to go over to the House of Representatives and meet with Speaker Denny Hastert and Majority Leader Tom DeLay. At the meeting, you tell them this: Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle's wife Linda is a lobbyist. Since he's in the Senate, she cannot lobby at that end of the Capitol. She can only lobby the House. Do you see where this is going? You tell the House guys to send out a message:

"From this day forward, until the Democrats end this filibuster and start paying attention to the guts of the Constitution, any business brought before the House of Representatives by Linda Daschle on behalf of her clients is dead on arrival. None of Mrs. Daschle's clients gets one ounce of consideration before the House while this is going on." If you want to play the way the Democrats are playing, that's what you do. Heck, you could also hold the vote until these Democrats are on the campaign trail! This is not a game. These people must be stopped from destroying the Constitution.

I love you Rush !!! (LOL!!!)

The TRUE bottom line here is what the PRESIDENT said..."I will stand by this man's side until he is confirmed as a judge." That's really all anybody needs to focus on.

I know. I remember seeing you on the live thread. I left when Lindsey Graham was giving a speech (a great one!) and missed out on what followed. At the time I left FR and turned off C-SPAN2, it looked like the Republicans were going to call it quits. People were saying how tired the Pubbies looked and the Senators evidently were saying how they needed to get back to other Senate business.

I understood from the next day's thread that Frist was going to call for a vote on Monday, then I saw Major Garrett's report which said a vote was going to be called for on Tuesday. I listened to Rush's show today and was happy to learn that MG's report was incorrect, according to Senators Frist and Hatch via Rush. I didn't come back to an Estrada thread until this one and was just surprised to see quite a few people picking on the individual who posted the Rush article. I just don't understand why there's an apparent animosity toward that person.

That's a great idea!

What I like is that Rush didn't hestitate to say he was wrong!

Cannot say the same for the Fox website! I am still waiting to hear back about my complaints to Fox that Wednesday night's vote was not an historic vote and it was not a bad night for Republicans.

This thread being posted doesn't bother me because it came from Rush's site. In fact, I went and checked to make sure.

Actually it has turned out to be a good thing IMO because it allows things to get aired out and cleared up.

The GOP leadership never did this when Clinton appointed judges to the federal bench, and that was when the Republicans actually controlled the Senate! Do the Democrats truly believe in their heart of hearts that we wanted Ruth Bader-Ginsberg to be on the Supreme Court??

You raise a very good point. While I believe Orrin Hatch has been outstanding thus far vis a vis the Estrada nomination, he has made comments about how fair he was to the dems in confirming so many of Clinton's judges, because he stopped some of his fellow Republicans from fighting ones they vehemently opposed. All I could think of was how often the rats rolled him and thereby got some TRULY activist judges confirmed to the federal bench, and how Hatch shouldn't be bragging about it, because his own decency, sense of fairness and perceived WEAKNESS was used against him. The Senator from Utah no doubt expected "fairness" for a Republican President from his "good friends" on the other side of the aisle.

Now the dims are lying about the Clinton nominee Paez,
He went to bat to calm his fellow R's down, said it wasn,t
right for him not to have a vote. Now they are spitting in his face. They will stop at nothing, and have no scruples !!

it was a question and its just as Rush wrote it tonight.

titled Idiot GOP Senate Set to Shaft Estrada?

Fox News reported that the GOP planned to call for a cloture vote on Estrada next week knowing they'd lose it. That would effectively amend the Constitution - illegally - to read that you need 60 votes instead of 51 to get a judicial nomination through.

Happily, it turns out the GOP isn't going to call such a vote.

BUT SINCE HE WROTE HIS STORY WITH A QUESTION MARK HE DOES NOT BELIEVE IT OR THINKS ITS A MAYBE...

......
And it says just what the story that Rush wrote and said what the Gop should do.

here

If these Democrats want to filibuster the first Hispanic nominee to the D.C. Circuit Court, let them do it! I know they say there are new rules making a filibuster harder, but so what? And don't tell me that it's not "practical" anymore, because people have to go to the bathroom. That's nothing new.

snip

We know no other nominee has been asked to give nor should give opinions on issues that may come before the court. Their job is to apply the law, not to make law or let their opinions get in the way of rulings.

These senators have to back Bush and Estrada up. http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_022803/content/roll_3.guest.html

and some other thoughts I have now that it is revised and they were going to decide on Monday when to call to end this. If I read Fox right, they stand by this story. As now written.

I've seen the actual title. I know the title is accurate. That has all been discussed. What some are now discussing is the jabs....and the wording......

"When Rush found out the Republicans were going to cave..."...when they were NEVER going to cave.

But.....'tis done. Or I am at least....lol

Rush is now reviewing it all and will put the story at his web site later today, telling of the rats filibuster and says no one Bush wants will get in if this is allowed.

Not to mention Estrada life is being destroyed by the rats.

I think the point here is that the article's title, which is somewhat inflammatory to begin with, doesn't match the content. The poster knew that when he posted the article.

He edited the title, but not in a way that would clarify that the title doesn't match the contents or make it any less inflammatory. Doesn't that make you curious?

Considering the posting history leads some to believe that the article was purposely posted either to deceive, or to bait people.

I'm tending toward thinking that the purpose is to encourage division at FR, but that's just my opinion.

"At midnight, the Dems decide to go home and go to bed. How do you stop them? And even if you could do it, how is that going to change their minds." First - get yourself a copy of Robert's Rules of Order, as revised. You can learn a lot about parliamentary procedure, especially if you watch C-Span.

Second, under Senate Rules, a senator may hold the floor for as long as he wants, barring a vote of cloture. Cloture stops debate, but under the rules you need a 60% affirmative vote (note 60%, not necessarily 60 votes if all Senators are not present). Debate may be temporarily stopped with a recess or another privledged motion.

another motion is called a "Quorum Call" (or Call of the House). All Senators are obliged to answer a quorum call by answering in person the roll. The President of the Senate may even send out the Sgt at Arms to enforce attendence. Here is a passage from Roberts ...

"Proceedings in a Call of the House. When the call is ordered the clerk calls the roll of members alphabetically, noting the absentees; he then calls over again the names of absentees, when excuses can be made; after this the doors are locked, no one being permitted to leave, and an order similar in form to the following is adopted: "Ordered, That the sergeant-at-arms take into custody, and bring to the bar of the House, such of its members as are absent without the leave of the House." A warrant signed by the presiding officer and attested by the clerk, with a list of absentees attached, is then given to the sergeant-at-arms, who immediately proceeds to arrest the absentees. When he appears with members under arrest, he proceeds to the chairman's desk (being announced by the doorkeeper in large bodies), followed by the arrested members, and makes his return. The chairman arraigns each member separately, and asks what excuse he has to offer for being absent from the sittings of the assembly without its leave. The member states his excuse, and a motion is made that he be discharged from custody and admitted to his seat either without payment of fees or after paying his fees. Until a member has paid the fees assessed against him he cannot vote or be recognized by the chair for any purpose.

In fact, not attending a quorum call would be very bad for the Dumbocraps, because if the Dumbocraps assembled do not make up more than 60% of the members present, a cloture vote can be immediately moved. In fact, at the quorum call, the doors can be locked to bar tardy members. If successful, the cloture vote would end debate and lead directly to a vote on the confirmation.

How you gonna get 60 votes whether they are present or not? It takes 60 not 60% of those present.
