PATRIOTS RALLY FOR AMERICA IV ON C-SPAN TODAY, 1:05 P.M. EST, 3/02/03
C-SPAN ^ | Sunday, March 2, 2003 | Kristinn

Posted on 03/02/2003 5:36:42 AM PST by kristinn

Shiver along with the D.C. Chapter, FReepers from across the country, other patriotic Americans and Iraqi exiles as C-SPAN broadcasts the Patriots Rally For America IV today at 1:05 p.m.

Recorded yesterday at the cold, fog-shrouded, snow-covered grounds of the Washington Monument, the rally held to support our troops, President Bush and the American policy on Iraq features former Rep. Bob Dornan, Aziz Al-Taee, Blanquita Cullum, John Armor, James Parmelee, Kevin Martin, Adam Ramey and yours truly.

Also featured are singers Cullen Martin, Stephanie Souders and, from Nashville, Lowell Shyette.

The program, if shown in it's entirety, should run three hours and fifteen minutes.

Get some hot chocolate ready, pop some popcorn, put on your red, white and blue sweaters and get ready to root for the home team: the men and women serving in our Armed Forces.

EAGLES UP !!!

Our thanks to our speakers--all of whom kept their committment despite the lousy weather. Thanks also, to our friend Notra Trulock, who had to cancel due to personal reasons.

Special thanks to Sean Hannity. Many people travelled great distances to attend because of his mentions of the rally on his radio show when Bob Dornan was a guest on Tuesday.

It was great to see old FRiends, and meet new ones, who hit the road to stand with us yesterday. Spring is coming. We promise better weather for the next time we rally--hopefully in a victory celebration.

Second that emotion. Here's a link to The Washington Times article about the rally (http://www.washtimes.com/metro/20030302-19108312.htm). I am reliably informed that there ther is a wonderful picture of me in ther print edition. Unfortunately it didn't make it on to the web site. Boo Hoo.

Link to the story from the Post.
The Chapter has achieved boilerplate status with the paper:

The rally was organized by the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic, a conservative group that also called for the impeachment of President Bill Clinton in 1998. It also led "Get Out of Cheney's House" protests, aimed at Al Gore, at the U.S. Naval Observatory during the contested 2000 presidential election. The residence of the vice president is at the observatory.

The rally was a lot of fun. The emcee kept things moving (she always does a great job) and the speakers were outstanding. Thanks, to Kristinn, Angelwood, TGSLTakoma and the many others who put this together.

Interestingly,

The caption for the Photo notes "About 100 people turned out for the "Patriots Rally for America" at the Washington Monument..."

While the Story by Denise Barnes begins with "Several hundred demonstrators gathered on snow-covered grounds"

I wonder how many people will notice this.

Keep up your hard work--and know that many of us across the country would love to be there for every one of your events.

As Dornan began his speech, a dissident Iraqi journalist, who said he had fled Baghdad after Hussein killed two of his brothers, ran toward the stage and threw a series of snowballs at a poster of the Iraqi president in military fatigues, knocking it over to cheers from the crowd.

What the reporter failed to note was that the poster was a target from a small arms range that had multiple holes in it made by a 1911A1 - Springfiled Armory product. In addition it revealed Saddam's thoughts "Merci - Les singes rendant, qui mangent fromage."

I leave to Little Bill or Jimmy Valentine to provide the translation.

I personally counted 200 people in the crowd at one point during the rally with more walking our way. The crowd changed throughout the rally as some people needed to leave to find a place to warm up and others arrived to take their place in the snow-covered field. Kudos to all who showed up and stood for hours in the snow.

We wanted to send a message to the troops that folks back home support them. Towards the end of the rally, I read a partial list of rallies being held this weekend around the country to show that even though the national media won't trumpet them they are happening.

Yeah, the Post actually had two people there: a hard news reporter and a columnist who I do suspect supports President Bush's policy here (the Post editorial page has come in support of "military disarmament" as a last resort, in fact). So we're going to get at least two articles.

When pigs fly! Frankly, I think it *is* newsworthy and deserves it. I'm not about bashing the press, it's not productive: I wonder if having a rally when the left wasn't having theirs actually HELPED us get better coverage rather than becoming a sidebar to their rally.

I also wonder if maybe, despite the cold and snow and all, if it didn't help with turnout: we had much more. It stands to reason that mainstream conservatives might be more interested in showing up if they didn't have to transgress a crowd of the unwashed left. I wonder, I'm just wondering, if there isn't some lesson to be drawn from this: sure, we have to counterprotest, but our leadership steered us in the right direction here by having a separate, what-we-support rally. It at least curbs the press' instinct to say we're negative and angry and spend our time just hating the left. (Gee, I hope Marc Fisher's reading this! :)

I would also like to say thank you to Sharon and the sound crew for their excellent work to make sure that the Patriots Rally for America IV's music and speakers could be heard clearly all the way to the Monument and beyond.

200 people is an awesome number, especially considering that regular folks have to travel to that den of iniquity known as the nations capital. Why on earth Washington D.C. is named after our greatest founding father and not named after the ex traitor-in-Chief Bill Clinton, is beyond me.

Thanks for the ping and the post. Kristinn must have an inside track to C-SPAN's schedule. It's not even on their site yet.

According to the primer they just showed after the Washington Journal, it will run from 1:05 to 2:30 for those putting a blank tape in their VCR. This will be a good alternative to the Live 3-Hour "In Depth" with Susan Sontag, who will be on C-SPAN2 from 12 to 3.

BTW, the one-hour debate/call-in between the fellows from the Southern Baptist Convention and the United Methodist Church, on the morality of going to war, was excellent. This should be re-played right before they play the Patriot's Rally.

Now I have to check the NASCAR Winston Cup schedule.

...TRULOCK really nailed it when he remarked that the only question yet to be answered about the loss of our Suitcase NUKE Technology due to the Fires of Los Alamos was...

.."WHY did HILLARY RODHAM's Friend Energy Secretary BILL RICHARDSON authorize those government-set fires around our Nuclear Lab during the WINDY SEASON..?"

...Especially since, after RICHARDSON's representing the Los Alamos Area in Congress ...for 11 years..., he was quite familiar with the Wind patterns and WINDY SEASONS around our Los Alamos NUKE Labs..?

...Especially since, according to NOTRA TRULOCK, it was DURING these very same Los Alamos Fires RICHARDSON started that our NUKE Hard Drives turned up missing...?????????????????????

...I guess, in Enemy Within HILLARY RODHAM's Case, it's...

And I would like to reiterate my thanks to the DC leadership here for everything, including these three things:

(1) Making the solid tactical move of having a rally when the leftists weren't scheduled to rally, so we could try to get our message out in a clearer format.

(2) Creating that call-in/contact phone list to try to get through to the conservative radio stations. While I'm jealous of cities where they have local conservative talk radio heros, I know for a *fact* that we had people who found out about us from Sean Hannity's show: talked to them!

(3) Focussing hard on turn out from the get-go and, despite the weather, preventing this from being a bust.

I thought you guys did a *great* job.

Some interesting reading from today's washington times while we're waiting:

Several hundred demonstrators gathered on the snow-covered grounds of the Mall yesterday to show their support for President George W. Bush and U.S. troops being sent overseas in the fight against international terrorism.

With the Washington Monument serving as a dramatic backdrop, the flag-waving crowd attending "Patriots Rally for America IV" listened to speeches by representatives of groups supporting current U.S. foreign policy regarding Iraq, including Aziz Altaee, chairman of the Iraqi American Council and Kevin Martin of the African-American Leadership Council and Veterans for Constitutional Renewal. Former Rep. Robert K. Dornan, California Republican and U.S. Air Force veteran, also addressed the crowd.

There were repeated cheers for American solders throughout the four-hour rally organized by Free Republic, a conservative grass-roots organization based in the District.

"This is a pro-American rally to support the troops. We're not pro-war. We have values and we know how important life is. We just recognize that sometimes force is necessary, and if it is, you have to go into it to win," said Kathryn Wood, one of the leaders of the 5-year-old group.

"My husband served in Vietnam, so I come from the perspective of 'been there, done that.' The men and women overseas are doing their duty and what their country has asked of them. We need to be supportive," Mrs. Wood said.

Mr. Dornan energized listeners by assuring them it would be "an amazing year in American history."

"This will be the month of freedom and liberation for the Iraqi people," he said in thunderous tones that resonated throughout the Mall grounds.

Tiffany Myers, 20, of Brandywine didn't mind the freezing cold or having to stand on snow — if the troops can withstand the brutal elements, so could she. Mrs. Myers came out to cheer on the troops and one soldier in particular: her new husband, Marine Lance Cpl. James Myers. The couple were married in October.

"He was deployed in February, and I came to the rally to support him," Mrs. Myers said, adding that it must be "devastating" for those in the armed forces to hear that people are protesting against the war back home. "My husband and other troops are over there fighting for our rights," she said, "and for those who don't have any."

Another demonstrator, Heather Welsh of Manassas, has a boyfriend stationed in Rome. She said she felt compelled to attend the rally to support him and other U.S. military personnel.

"Freedom isn't free. It's not just our men paying the price — wives and children pay dearly and they're willing to do that because they believe in what they're doing." Ms. Welsh, 32, said.

Mr. Altaee, one of the keynote speakers, said it was important for him and a delegation of 20 Iraqi Americans to attend the rally for a number of reasons. Gratitude to America topped the list.

"There are a lot of Americans being misled about the facts behind the current war against Saddam Hussein. This is a war for humanity against brutality. ... I'm here to tell the facts about people who lived inside Saddam's large prisons," he said.

After September 11, he noted, many Iraqi Americans were unfairly scrutinized or even shunned by their fellow citizens.

"We could face a backlash if the war starts. Iraqi Americans are neighbors and have contributed positively to this society," Mr. Altaee said.

Steve Rosenthal, 54, said that firm action against Iraq will not only serve the cause of anti-terrorism, but will benefit the Iraqi people as well.

"Saddam Hussein has to go. His ministers have to go. His underlings have to go. Everyone who supports him must go," Mr. Rosenthal said. "When they're gone, the people of Iraq will have a decent leader and a proper form of government."

Why don't you plan one BIG successful rally to be held in D.C., with thousands of people in attendance, instead of a bunch of small, piddly ones?? Which is, BTW, an excellent suggestion Rush once made to a caller from Free Republic quite awhile ago.

You are an admirer of Rush's, are you not Angelwood?? It might be prudent if you would listen to his advice a little more often.

I'm imagining B-1 Bob on Fast Forward.

BTW, just as Bob started to drone a bit, he launced into the "Clinton Duplicity" mode. That 10, or so, minutes of his speech, including the George Stephanapoulusauaallass(sp?) reference was worth all the cold feet at the Sylvan.
