President Disappointed by Vote to Continue Filibuster on Judicial Nominee

Statement by the President
In Focus: Judicial Nominations
Miguel Estrada is a well-qualified nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals who has been waiting nearly two years for an up or down vote in the United States Senate. The decision today by 44 Senators to continue to filibuster and block a vote on this nomination is a disgrace.
The Senate has a responsibility to exercise its constitutional advice and consent function and hold an up or down vote on a judicial nominee within a reasonable time. Some Senators who once insisted that every appeals court nominee deserves a timely vote have now abandoned that principle for partisan politics. Their tactics are an injustice and unfair to the good man I have nominated, and unfaithful to the Senate's own obligations.
These Senators are holding Miguel Estrada to a double standard. I will stand by Miguel Estrada's side until he is sworn in as a judge. I call on the Senate Democratic leadership to stop playing politics, and permit a vote on Miguel Estrada's nomination. Let each Senator vote as he or she thinks best, but give the man a vote.

The GOP should organize a massive protest by Hispanic groups. They should send people to the Senate to protest this outrage. Make it all about the Demos being anti-Hispanic.

Bush should call out by name the senators who have flipped flopped on the fifibuster issue, then he should take Trent Less, Jr. aside and tell him to call for a 24/7 filibuster through the war and anything else--no votes on any issue until the Estrada vote (of course, TRUE conservatives would have to then support the dems so that congress would shut down for the remainder of this term).

"Where are the Republicans?.... "I can tell you exactly where the Republicans are. They and Lott, I mean Frist, are trying to figure out how many special vacations and holidays they can allow the democrats, instead of forcing them to filibuster 24/7, taking turns sleeping on cots in Senate chambers. There is absolutely no other way Estrada will get voted on, but Republicans refuse to do this. They also refuse to put all Senate business on hold and to deny all pork to the democrats. That, in addition to forcing a full filibuster, would be a big help as well. But Senate Republicans refuse to do that, either.
In short, they are slowly surrendering to Schumer, Kennedy and all the rest.

What Bush should be thinking of is why on earth he picked Frist to succeed Lott.

and, why, pray tell, are the Republican Senators not forcing this into a true and full fillibuster?
When did partial and excepted fillibusters become licit in the constitutional laws defining senate proceedure?

I have an idea that will TERRIFY the rats. A tax strike. We don't send any of our taxes until Estrada gets the vote. You don't do you job we will not do ours! Have the president announce clemency to any proclaimed stikers. Maybe they will ignore it until April 15th but afterwards it will get their attention!

Another idea: Defund the left. Make sure no leftist programs, none, get a penny until Estrada gets his vote. Make the very people who are pushing the RATS into this SCREAM like the pigs they are. We can defund by default, by not listing the stuff they want so they can't get it passed. Every time the whine about how so and so needs money you simply say, not until Estrada get the vote, a perfect way to defund the left or get him in. A win/win situation.

How do you force the Dems to talk all night? Say it is 3 AM. The Dems decide to go home and go to bed. What are you going to do about it?

Another hard-ball idea: start impeaching Clinton's judges. Does it require a 2/3's vote or a simple majority? If it requires a simple majority start yanking them out one by one. Make it clear you ain't going to stop until W gets his votes on his judges!

**The decision today by 44 Senators to continue to filibuster and block a vote on this nomination is a disgrace.**
And the loss of seats for dims in Hispanic populated areas is even going to be more of a disgrace to them...............................who wins in the long run?
Bush and Estrada and the GOP!!!
RNC -- are you taking notes on these 44 bigoted dims so that the Hispanic discrimination material can be used in their purported re-election campaigns?

Can anyone please tell me, and everyone else out there for that matter, where the nomination stands right now?? I would especially like to know if we've been sold out by Frist.
I'm kinda in the dark right now.

President Bush said tonight in his press conference when referring to the irrelevant UN
"...it's time to show your cards." I think his statement applies to obstruction hypocrit democrat senators as well, President Bush raised the ante, offered all 100 Senators to write questions that they wanted Miguel Estrada to answer by last week Friday, and Estrada would have the answers to them by today, Thursday. Well, not one single senator wrote one single question so "...it's time to show your cards"...and vote until you run out of chips, as in bull....
