Peep box offers hole to the real world

Peep boxes once dominated the lower scale of Japan's netherworld, but they've since given way to other types of carnal entertainment. Now, however, one peep box at least is turning Japanese in an effort to give itself greater appeal, according to Shukan Jitsuwa (3/20).

"Peep boxes originally came into Japan from the United States, but most of them involved something like a show," says the owner of Michelle, the Japanese-style peep box that has recently opened in the seedy Shinokubo district of Tokyo's Shinjuku-ku. "Japanese like something more sneaky, like spying on a woman to get a look at her private life. If that's the case, then we're certainly the first Japanese-style peep show in Japan."

Rather than the gaudy lights and stage common with most peep boxes, Michelle is decked out to look like a store selling swimsuits. Literally hundreds of swimsuits are hung up on racks lined in neat rows.

"We get out customers to creep into rooms next to a change room at the rear of the store. The rooms have walls equipped with holes so customers can take a close look at what the girls are doing," the owner tells Shukan Jitsuwa. "Of course, if you pay a surcharge upon entering the store, you're entitled to some special service from the girl later on."

Where the normal peep box would soon see the customer treated to a show put on by a naked woman dancing on stage, the Michelle customer is greeted by the plain walls of the room beside the swimsuit store "changing room." The walls contain three holes, one at eye level and the other two at a height where customers can peer through if they squat on their haunches.

I'm trying to figure out what this has to do with "rolling back decades of governmental largesse, rooting out political fraud and corruption, and championing causes which further conservatism in America".

For that you have to read the last paragraph of the article, dealing with the fruits of labor.
