Yes I agree with you. You are not compensated for the costs you incur in terms of personal time lost. Therefore, by government fiat, the burdern of raising a family is partially offloaded on single people who have nothing to do with the family in question.
And I'll bet parents don't even invite you to the birthday parties of the kids you're indirectly helping to raise. ;-)

No, they do NOT, and now I'm indignant! :)

One other point...
A good benefit for our extended family was that, in saving all of the vacation days, and my husband only used four when our daughter was born, we could then spend the baby's first Christmas with the grandparents, who live out of state.
Yes, it took planning, but... next thing you know, mothers and fathers will be asking for extra days off, so that they can be home for every school-holiday throughout the year!

I know...I know. The whole point here is personal responsibility...which ever since the depression era we seem to have lost any notion of!!! There are a few of us who still have a "pioneer" type mentality, but I fear we are few and far between.

I was never a conservative, until I became a mother. Being a parent makes me want to protect my children from everything, and that means even silly legislation that sounds good today, but will make their lives much more difficult in the future.
Keep your spirits up... your child is counting on you to be a defender of their freedoms, too. You are on the right path! I commend you.
Best wishes.

You go girl! Mr. Frodolives did the Dad thing for eight years. Not only is he the best cook and an excellent houskeeper, he and our son now have a bond that is unshakable. He told me it was the greatest gift I could ever give him.

I knew that if I could find support for my idea anywhere, it'd be on FR - many thanks!

I hear ya...my fiance and I decided some time ago that when we have children (MANY years in the future), he'll be a stay at home dad. He loves kids, and I have twice the earning potential as he does.
Not exactly traditional, but we both feel strongly that parents, not a daycare, should raise children. Although I'll take my maternity leave, since he'll be at home, paternity leave is not an issue.
I do remember that when my brother was born, my dad saved up vacation days so he could help out mom for a week after they came home.

I want to know what benefit=entitlement I get from "our" goverment??? You'll have to wait a little longer - I have to get ready for another 8 hour work day. To amuse yourself in the meantime, just do a search on the history of US labor law. There's been a few changes over the years that I would say qualify as "benefits."

I'll be waiting...I do not doubt that there have been many laws enacted over the last 100 years that have benefited people....they were necessary. But, the laws like family leave, etc, etc are just more of the nanny state mentallity(sp)....enough of that!! In my opinion.

Personally Im fond of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, being a woman and all. The Fair Labor Standards act means we can still get paid while we take a p!ss. I hope you never need unemployment benefits or work for a company that screws up your health insurance. But Im sure you would just suck it up. No nanny state for you!

There have been many times where I could have drawn unemployment. Maybe you did not read my posts above. I have had 3 jobs at times. My girlfriend is out of work and because she is pregnent will not be finding more work....I have a second job, instead of her taking a hand out from the goverment. I also have my own buisness on the side that I just started. You're damn right I'll just "suck it up" it's the way I was raised!!!! I thank God everyday for the upbringing I had!!!!!!
Like I said I'm sure there have been many labor laws that were passed in the last 100 years the were necessary...I'm just glad I have to fortitude and foresight to not need them.
