The shutdown of AFWTF, which has long been known, stems from the closing of the target range in Vieques...At the end of the shutdown, around 4,000 jobs will be lost in Puerto Rico

Hey, what about all those protesters (including Al Sharpton) that wanted to get rid of the practice of bombing targets on Viques? Do they care about these nearby people losing their jobs? Nope. They just wanted to get some publicity against the Military. They'll surely come back and say how horrible the U.S. Gov't is in doing this,we can count on that. Too G.D. bad for you Puerto Rico;once again The Extreme Left has manipulated you.You asked for it and you have received your just reward.Actions have consequences, but you'll never learn, and many people didn't care for your Anti-American behavior either, against the military. You Lose.LMAO!!!

Some empire. The Imperial countries of the past at least went after territories rich in natural resources.

Puerto Rico never had anything of value.

Puerto Rico has taken our country to the cleaners.

It's time to cut them loose.

In other words, since the Riqueños objected to military tests, we're just gonna pack up and leave. What's that you say, PR? Losing jobs? No sailors to buy your goods? Too bad. You can enjoy your moral so-called superiority in the unemployment line.

Same thing happened in the Philippines. They closed our bases and now they regret it. Billions of dollars and jobs went pfffftttt! All due to leftist and commie agitation.

Cut off nose to spite face. LOL!

We should have cut the umbilical with Puerto Rico decades and $100's of Billions of squandered U.S. Taxpayer's hard-earned dollars ago.

Puerto Rico has never appreciated a dime of the $100's of Billions we've given them.

Don't forget Jesse Jackson, the Cuomo and Kennedy families, Benedicio Del Toro, Edward James Olmos and Ruben Blades.

Maybe they'll all send Puerto Rico a check.

Haven't seen it.

I had let my subscription to the Geoleftist lapse.

I might just buy the current issue, though. Interesting...

In Puerto Rico they thought the mayor of some 3rd-world dump of a town out-ranks Admiral Robert Natter, Chief of the entire Atlantic Fleet of the United States of America.

They thought wrong.

Reading the intro on the national geographic website .. I can see why they may be a bit upset !! too truthful!! ;-)
Here's an excerpt opening paragraph.

The rum bottle in front of him almost empty, Jacobo Morales is approaching the end of a rambling stage monologue on what it means to be Puerto Rican. Earlier he had toasted "the great American nation, of which I'm proud to be a citizen." But with this most recent toast his mood has turned militantly nationalistic: "What I am is Ameri . . . Puerto Rican!" And then another turnabout. "Puerto Rican and Ameri. . . . What I am is a realist, because one thing is what I feel, another is what's convenient. What I feel is Puerto Rican first and Puerto Rican always—but what about the welfare checks?" Finally, polishing off the last of the bottle, Morales makes up his mind, shouting: "Viva Puerto Rico libre!—Long live free Puerto Rico!"

To all the good people of Puerto Rico,
REMEMBER to thank all those protesters, politicians, actors, activists and others that supported the closure of Vieques.... BTW, do the right thing and vote the politicos out in the next election!
Just might hafta buy that National Geographic issue and see how truthful it is. Spent 3 years on Rosie awhile back.

Thanks for the link, Ag.

How about the government official that says they close the bars on election day so that everyone in Puerto Rico doesn't vote for independence?

Sounds like passing out free bottles of rum on election day would be the best investment we U.S. Taxpayers could make. ;^)

I heard there was a huge hotel that was going to be built on the site. If so, it could replace the jobs ... but what will the people do to survive for the next year or so it takes to build it ...??

The surest sign that the military is shutting down a base is a massive construction spree. Sounds like Roosy Roads is history.

Can you elaborate more on this theory about shutting down a base and a massive construction spree?

The Extreme Left has manipulated you.You asked for it and you have received your just reward.Actions have consequences, but you'll never learn, and many people didn't care for your Anti-American behavior either, against the military.

I don't think the ones that are losing the jobs were the ones that were protesting. And you can bet that Al Sharpton is not losing his job either. Just have to make sure that the ones losing their jobs know who are the ones that got the bombing range to stop and the base to close. But I'm not holding my breath, since if anything, the LEFTISTS are good at dodging the blame.
