TO MY FELLOW CHRISTIANS: THE FLAG IS AN IDOL!
Flag Or The Cross? ^

Posted on 03/14/2003 8:03:57 PM PST by LalahLand

I am curious to find out why some of my fellow Christians still recite the pledge of allegiance. When you "pledge your allegiance" to an inanimate object you are basically worshipping that object. Am I missing something here? Why do some of us choose to salute and break one of the most important commandments? Shouldn't our pledge of allegiance be to God, and not a piece of cloth? The pledge of allegiance to the flag basically states that we will (blindly) support the flag and the actions of our government without question. That is the very essence of what idolatry is all about! Please check out the attached article.

idol SYLLABICATION: i·dol PRONUNCIATION: AUDIO: dl KEY NOUN: 1a. An image used as an object of worship. b. A false god. 2. One that is adored, often blindly or excessively.

idolatry SYLLABICATION: i·dol·a·try PRONUNCIATION: AUDIO: -dl-tr KEY NOUN: Inflected forms: pl. i·dol·a·tries 1. Worship of idols. 2. Blind or excessive devotion to something.

Don't you think the Freepers here are getting tired of trolling for religion controversities?

You might try thinking a little bit before you do this again!

Isn't there a verse about giving unto Ceasar that which is do him? I think the flag is do a little allegiance. We will give unto God that which is do him, our true worship.

I Pledge Allegiance -- By Red Skelton

I - - Me; an individual; a committee of one.

Pledge - - Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity.

Allegiance - - My love and my devotion.

To the Flag - - Our standard; Old Glory ; a symbol of Freedom; wherever she waves there is respect, because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts, Freedom is everybody's job.

United - - That means that we have all come together.

States - - Individual communities that have united into forty-eight great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose. All divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that is love for country.

And to the Republic - - Republic--a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people; and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.

For which it stands

One Nation - - One Nation--meaning, so blessed by God.

Indivisible - - Incapable of being divided.

With Liberty - - Which is Freedom; the right of power to live one's own life, without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.

And Justice - - The principle, or qualities, of dealing fairly with others.

For All - - For All--which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.

And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands; one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: Under God. Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools, too?

Render unto Caeser, twit.

Romans 13:2

2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

I understand what you are saying. However, you are taking the cloth concept literally. People are meaning pledge to an idea, but they say cloth. Poor grammer or vocabulary, but they really mean pledge to an idea.

You are in la la land. Love and honor and pride of one's country is good, therefore of God. We are to obey the laws of our land, it is clear throughout the Holy Bible.

If 'one' were to follow your ideals, you being on the computer right now staring at your computer screen is worshipping an idol before God. If you put socks on your feet it is putting your warm feet before you think of God. Do you see how your logic is warped, or are you just disrupting with your nonsense?

Methinks this lurker is a member of the "religious Left". His conversion probably took place about the same time he decided he didn't like the war with Iraq because it's being won by a Republican. Problem is he forgot that according to the Ninth Circuit Court we're not permitted to factor God into patriotism.

How could you sign up tomorrow? You are living in lalahland. There is a pledge to the Christian flag. So, if we say that pledge then what is wrong with saying a pledge to our country's symbol.
