Klein letter supports U.S. action against Iraq

CALGARY — Alberta Premier Ralph Klein has put his support for the U.S. war on Iraq in writing - sending a letter to the American ambassador to Canada praising President George W. Bush for "leadership in the war on terrorism and tyranny."

Alberta Premier Ralph Klein

"The president and your nation have exemplified leadership," Klein said in a letter sent Thursday to Paul Cellucci, the U.S. ambassador to Canada. "As Americans put their lives on the line to preserve freedom and security, we feel that friendship more strongly than ever."

Klein also wants the Alberta legislature to formally endorse the American government's stand.

On Monday, Klein accused Prime Minister Jean Chretien of leaving Canada's friends in the lurch by refusing to commit Canadian troops to the U.S.-led attack on Saddam Hussein. Klein has also warned that Chretien's position could damage the relationship between the U.S. and Alberta's energy sector.

Ontario Premier Ernie Eves has also criticized Chretien for the decision to stay out of the war.

However, Manitoba Premier Gary Doer and Quebec Premier Bernard Landry have praised Ottawa's decision to stay out of the conflict without a sanction from the United Nations.

Klein's letter doesn't specifically mention Hussein or Iraq.

I've been reading a lot of posts that say how decent the non-French Canadians are, and this guy PROVES it. Maybe Calgary can become our 51st state-we'd welcome that!

Well, I think we could annex Alberta, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia as well. British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec are lost causes. PEI I'm not sure.

I spent some time in Alberta doing some engineering work on Edmonton Power's Genesee power plant near Warburg, AB. Good people. I learned a lot about Canadian politics there.

Well, I think we could annex Alberta, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia as well.

If we did, we'd have to say goodbye to the Republican Party. Practically the entire economies of those three provinces consist of wealth transfers from provinces further to the west in the form of welfare and the like. (How did they get that way? Decades of working for nationalized "Crown corporations" that were so corrupt and/or Soviet in their busines practices that the companies all collapsed. The citizens of those "states" would all vote about 90% RAT as American citizens; that's six guaranteed RAT senator until the end of time, lord knows how many electoral votes ... basically the Democratic Party would end up with full control of the presidency and Congress for the rest of time.

It is not really that bad, Canada has a good economy, lots of natural resources, few people and lots of land. The current lagging regions would probably see thier economies pick up substantially once weaned off the federal teat. The majority of English-Canadians are conservative while Quebec and the new immigrant class are very left of center and since they vote as a bloc, are the primary reason the liberals continue to win with 43% of the popular vote. The good news is that the liberals have not awoken to the new reality as did Australia and the U.K. and are self destructing before our very eyes, thus the idiotic anti-Americanism etc. Thanks to the courage of GWB the world has entered a whole new era and the libs are being dragged into it yelling and screaming and are sore afraid. 9/11 just accelerated the process.

Bump for a good Alberta story . . .

Famous quote from an American who once lived there:

"I didn't live in Canada -- I lived in Alberta."
