NYC Supports the Troops, the U.S.A. and President Bush - 3/23/03

We got to Times Square shortly before noon, and there were well over 1000 patriotic people there! We started out up front, but my dad was uncomfortable and we kept going back and back and back and back... Therefore the only speaker photos I have are of the lady from the Christian Coalition and a couple of FReepers.

By the time we left, there were at *least* close to 3000 flag-waving, "USA! USA! USA!"-chanting patriots squeezed into the area near the ticker tape in Times Square.

I didn't see any other threads on this, so I apologize if this is a duplicate.

I was there too....sorry I didn't see you NYC GOP Chick, but I had a good conversation with Firebrand, Lazerlock and a few other Freepers. I rode in to the rally with Katnip...it was our first time meeting and she is just a great lady!

The rally was WONDERFUL. It was just So good to see so many out in support of our president and this war effort. So good to be in the midst of people with common sense period! It's lonely standing for truth and intergrity in NYC and it was just great seeing everyone come out as they did and with one voice. Speaking of voice, I lost mine from all the shouting and chanting....but I don't mind.

I was also encouraged to see my city councilman Weprin show up. He is a democrat and with most of the city council having voted for a resolution against the war I was quite surprised to see him there. He spoke for just a few moments saying that although he is a democrat, that in this instance he does not believe in democrats and republican, only in Americans. He went on to say that he supports GWB and this war. I have never thought well of Weprin before this...but now I have to give him credit. I will write his office and thank him for coming and taking the stand he did.

It was great meeting all the freepers I did. Wish I had remembered my camera!

The CNN report stunk. The reporter ended the report by saying she couldn't see any real difference between the anti-war rally yesterday and this one. DUH! How about the fact that we DIDN'T send 11 police officers to the hospital after macing them in the face? How about the fact that there were 200 arrests in yesterday's demomnstration as reported by ABC News just tonight, and NO arrests at our rally? I call that a big difference, and ABC news said it was a big difference also.

I made a little honor roll list at the restaurant but now I see I will be leaving so many freepers out that I'm not even going to post it!

Reuters has brass ones to say we were "several hundred." When I got taken on a little walk to meet the chief, I first realized that the crowds stretched down and down and down Broadway. I couldn't believe my eyes. I'm only sorry that those who were down the street couldn't really hear the program.

Sixth picture down is Roberta Combs, national president of the Christian Coalition. She got up on that wonderful platform that Cacique threw together yesterday at the last minute, and she gave a rousing rally speech.

Cacique is on his way home now and will soon be posting his pictures, including one of Brett Schundler. Brett got back up on the platform and led us in the national anthem later.

I think I saw the same "infilTRA(I)TOR" as you. The guy I saw appeared to be more "anti-personal hygiene" than "anti-war". Same guy???

I only found out about the rally because it was briefly mentioned on one of the local NY area TV stations. I think if we can get the word out, we'll have more people in the events to come.
