After Action Report - Rally for America - Katy, TX
23 March 2003 | PetroniDE

Posted on 03/23/2003 7:11:51 PM PST by PetroniDE

A crowd of between 2000-2500 people gathered at Rhodes Memorial Stadium in Katy, TX for "A Rally and Prayer for America". It seems like every event attended is a little different from earlier experiences, and this event was no exception.

This event had more prayer than previous gatherings. Of the nine speakers, four were local ministers, but another reason for this was news regarding loss of life overseas and the apparent gross disregard for the Geneva convention by the Iraqi government. Speeches were given from the Mayor of Katy as well as two member of Katy City Council. Those politicians must do a good job, since I can't remember their names, and we only know names of most local politicians when they screw up. A local band played patriotic music and Dan Patrick from KSEV also gave a speech.

Many U.S. Flags were seen in the crowd, but except for the "We Support Our Troops" banner, only a handful of others brought signage. Once again, several people brought framed pictures of family members currently serving in the military overseas. One camera and sound crew combination was spotted in the crowd (couldn't tell which station). Rally started at 6:00 pm in the twi-light, and ended at about 7:15 pm under the lights.

Two other nice tidbits about this rally. No "anti-American" protestors showed up to disrupt the proceedings and we were able to sit down during the rally. Since the crowd was limited to the "home" side of the stadium, this crowd estimate above is pretty accurate. Since no digital camera was available, I regret to inform you no pictures. I heard that an announcement of the rally was made in the Katy Times newspaper; if I see a post-event report I will post it.

Fantastic. Prayer is ok with me. We all need to be in prayer - and united prayer - how powerful! God bless our troops and their families, our President, and those loyal to America (that excludes Clintonistas) within our government!!!

Houston Ping. Good event and excellent turnout, considering only four days notice of event.

Regarding Mecom Fountain. I can attend, but can't get there early. If anyone can get there early, let's arrange a banner hand-off.

WOW -- You read fast.. Didn't even have a chance to do the local ping list.

I have noticed that ALL of the pro-America rallies have had some prayer in it. This one had more, but it was not exclusively prayer.

That's ok - our Raleigh NC Rally had one prayer - but it was given by a retired military guy who gave a knockout summary of the situation today followed by a doozy of a prayer! There is nothing more powerful we can do than to pray for our country, our troops, our President. Nothing. Way to go, Texas Freepers!!!!! Don't mess with Texas.....

How come there are no photos of any of the rallies, they would be such encouragement to our troops. But we can't show and tell without the photos.

There are rally photos all over Free Republic - do a search for "rally". We currently have a database of pics from over 50 rallies just since March 1st, with most this weekend. They will be included in a CD-ROM to be distributed to overseas military units showing our appreciation for all they do. The project is in motion. We read your mind...:)

Plenty of photos for most of the rallies (look at the Dallas threads from 22 March). The rally in Katy was on very short notice, and I haven't graduated into the digital camera technology yet.

Thanks Houston people. I am definitely going to Austin next Sunday. I will ping the Houston people very soon regarding rally information.

I plan to drive again and I have room to take up to three more. Ron H. is also planning to go, but I think he wants to drive since his full scale posters won't fit in my car.

It is amazing that I have lived in Katy for 3-1/2 years, and know so FEW people from there.

We were ALL in the stands, and there were too many U.S. flags to count. Where were you in the stands? I was at the 40-yard line on the first row of the upper deck. I know had this banner.

I still refuse to admit I had anything to do with putting soap in the Mecom Fountain back in the sixties when it was first built across from the Warwick Hotel. ;-)
