Great post.

In a nation of 22 million people, 1 to 2 million have a stake in Saddam's regime - the officers in "elite" units, corrupt Baath Party officials, secret policemen and all those who have enjoyed good careers at the expense of the other 20 million of their countrymen

So the war is against the top 5-10%, the rich, the privileged, the well connected.
Shouldn't the leftists agree that they must be taken down like they want to do in this country?;-)

SECNAVINST 10520.6
N09B1
31 May 2002

SECNAV INSTRUCTION 10520.6
From: Secretary of the Navy
To: All Ships and Stations (less Marine Corps field
addressees not having Navy personnel attached)

Subj: DISPLAY OF THE FIRST NAVY JACK DURING THE GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM

Ref: (a) U. S. Navy Regulations, 1990

1. Purpose. To provide for the display of the first navy Jack on board all U. S. Navy ships during the Global War on Terrorism.

2. Discussion. As the first ships of the Continental Navy readied in the Delaware River during the fall of 1775, Commodore Esek Hopkins issued a set of fleet signals. His signal for the "whole Fleet to Engage" the enemy provided for the "strip'd Jack and Ensign at their proper places." Thus, from the very beginning of our Navy, the Jack has been used on board American warships. The first navy Jack was a flag consisting of 13 horizontal alternating red and white stripes bearing diagonally across them a rattlesnake in a moving position with the motto "Don't Tread On Me." The temporary substitution of this Jack represents an historic reminder of the nation's and Navy's origin and will to persevere and triumph.

2. Action. The first navy jack will be displayed on board all U. S. Navy ships in lieu of the Union Jack, in accordance with sections 1259 and 1264 of reference (a). The display of the first Navy Jack is an authorized exception to section 1258 of reference (a). Ships and craft of the Navy authorized to fly the first Navy Jack will receive an issue of four flags per ship through a special distribution.

What I want to know is will this war cut into my "must see" tv tonight?
< /sarcasm>
I was watching one of the network evening news show last night, the question wa with all these casualities is the war going like you expect? One man said "This isn't at all what i expected". There were way too many people who seem to think that war is a video game and none of the good guys even get killed or captured.

Ralph Peters point about the false surrenders, that they are attempts to incite our forces to fire on the white flag, thereby discouraging the great mass of Iraqi soldiers who simply want get out of this thing alive from surrendering, is something that had never occured to me.
Think of the discipline with which the American soldier fights. Despite the continual stress he is under, and despite the provocation of a false surrender, he doesn't shoot first and ask questions later (the natural reaction). He maintains a professional stance, and goes on fighting the war according to his rules, not the enemies tricks.

"Thus far, our troops have performed magnificently, seizing an ever-growing list of airfields, bridges, roads, oil fields and other critical infrastructure, enabling us to maneuver swiftly and freely, while preserving the backbone of Iraq's economy for its people. And we prevented an ecological catastrophe, although those on the left will never credit us for doing so."

Watching many journalists with their chicken little bias reporting, one might worry if they were not aware of the facts. Biased left wing reporters are foolish and deceptive and deserve the name "talking heads".
God bless our troops and our President; the Lord is with us in this battle against killers and thugs.
