I cannot believe that STRATFOR is taking seriously the notion that Syria wants to join the war on Iraq's side.

I think the Highway Patrol has closed the road to Bagdad for safety reasons.

One gets a sense that the Arab world feels a little safer with Saddam on the verge of extinction.

I thought suiside attacks were done alone, not by busloads.

Some suspect that many of Saddam's WMD have been turned over to Syria for "safe-keeping."

I'm sure after we dispatch Saddam, we'll take applications in the Axis of Evil to take his place.

Anyone remember all the Pakistani volunteers who crossed over to join the Taliban, only to get caught under daisy-cutters, lined up against the wall and shot by the Northern Alliance, loaded into shipping containers and buried in the desert, or otherwise refused surrender and slaughtered where they stood?
If very many Syrians join this fight, they will not even get the chance to fire their rifles, and Syria will suffer a depressed birth rate for years as her men who left for Baghdad fail ever to return.

Yup. That was my first thought. We need to get some Kurds on the Damascus to Baghdad highway.

Guess they didn't learn anything from the bitter fate of the volunteers who went to Afghanistan to join the fight against the Americans.....

Hizbullah, the shi'ite Islamist group, could not exist without Syrian support.
Ba'athists haev an continue to work with Islamic terrorists against western interests, just as they allied themselves with communists.

>>Busloads of Syrians have reportedly left Syria to fight alongside Iraqi soldiers. If true, this would be an astounding development on Damascus' part, as it would be tantamount to declaring war on the United States<<
Excellent news!
Hey Syria!

bring them on. " we" can fight them at the same time "we" fight the turks. I wonder at the term "WE".. I wonder just how many here that are calling the shots from a keyboard saying " we" and at the same time are of age to be able to sign up and serve along side their "fellow American" boys/women who are the real heros. Then they can say "WE can take them all on.

I'd heard a report of one Syrian civillian bus being blown up by an errant US missile. Perhaps there was more to it than originally known...
For what its worth...DEBKA says the bus that got toasted was full of Palestinian fighters going to join the Iraqis...
