In college, my fellow Chinese students told me that a common nickname for caucasians translates to "round eyes, big nose".

The translation is "foreign devil." You don't have to be white for them to dislike you---just foreign. They actually hate black people and Japanese more then white Caucasians. They also like to call white people "big noses."
The most common name by far is Wai Guo Ren, which means person from a foreign country. That is what they call us to our faces. But, if they think we can't understand them, they usually call us "Lao Wai" which is rather impolite.
