Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Heres to hoping the pro Sadaam Stalanist protestors block major commuting streets & piss of as many fence sitters as possible today! Being the volunteer CIA DU monitor, I'm starting to notice some subtle changes to their tone.

I posted this in the other thread, when I looked up from typing, everyone was gone. :-)
I'm a pretty talented chick. I can change my oil, use a circular saw, fix the toaster, kill bugs, mow the yard, put air in my tires,BBQ, refinish furniture...yadayada. I consider myself to be entirely self sufficient. I support equal rights for women as far as equal pay for equal work, and equal promotion for equal skill.
All that being said...
NO women in combat. It is against the nature of humankind. Men kill, we create.
Men protect, we preserve
Men can bury emotions..We survive by expressing emotion.
Men have an inherent need to protect the people they love... Women have an inherent need to comfort the people we love
Men go off and fight, they are men. They are born for Battle. Women need to be at home for those men when they return from battle. Men need our softness to compliment their strength, they need our tears when they can't shed their own, Men need the comfort only women can provide.
We women are soldiers in our own right, but our battlefield is in the home.

my turn to be an armchair analyst...
We are putting too much faith in 4th ID getting to Iraq in time right now...let me say why
Those vehicles have been on ships for 2 months with no maintenence. A quarter of them won't even start. Some tanks have the wrong engines in them because of the rush to get them loaded into the ships. They do not even have enough batteries for all of them.
Tanks go out on exercises here, after a couple days out, they come back and are on the line (in for repairs) for days on end. They are seriously high maintenence.
We need to add another week to the time it'll take to get the 4th soldiers where we need them because all of this needs to be factored in.
To: commish
well, it does sound like one of helen's lead-ins to a question to Ari, doesn't it?

NO women in combat. It is against the nature of humankind. Men kill, we create. I agree. I'd be prefectly happy to have a woman operate on my brain or build a rocket to take me to Mars, but if my life depends upon blowing another human being's brains out, I want the shooter to be a guy.
Besides which, what if she saw a mouse just as she squeezed the trigger?
